- Sony G700 is a mid-range Atmos Soundbar that comes with a wireless sub-woofer the total output is rated for 400W it comes with eARC port and one HDMI port a remote controller but does not have any app or WiFi connectivity and I share my review after testing this soundbar on 3 different Televisions.

Not exactly. Atmos will be delivered, but it's not lossless. The lossless Dolby Atmos is given thru Dolby True HD whereas the "lossy" version is given thru Dolby Digital Plus. ARC has DD+ while eARC has True HD.

Thanks for the review sir. Spending 40k for this sounds bar doesn't make much sense where it requires earc telivisions and less atmos content in streaming apps.
I am using jbl 5.1 sound bar which comes with wireless rear speakers and 10 inch wireless sub woofer. Trust me very rich sound, honestly shakes my big hall, very powerful and rich punchy bass. I am enjoying it from past 1 year where our costs about 52 k now
How's the battery backup for the rear speakers?

I wanted to mention and bring it to your attention that Atmos is supported over ARC as well if the Hdmi ARC supports Dolby Digital Plus which is very normal for TVs in recent years, I suppose even the qled of 2018.
Dolby Atmos is supported in two codecs - Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus. Hdmi ARC port can support Dolby atmos over the Dolby Digital Plus signal.
Netflix and all the major streaming services are currently supporting Dolby atmos over Dolby digital plus. This Dolby atmos is the compressed version but it works fine.
EARC is not a necessity for Dolby atmos(over Dolby Digital plus) to work.
EARC is only required to pass Dolby atmos data over Dolby True HD but frankly no streaming service supports that yet.
I have LG Oled C8 65 inch and it does not have eARC and I have Samsung hw q800t and my atmos works completely fine.
You might want to check the sound setting on the TV on which it didn’t work.
For example on my LG C8, I had to set digital sound output to auto instead of pcm in order for Dolby atmos to work.

I have one.. To support Dolby Atmos, we need to have 4K resolution too right? My understanding is tat tv should have 4k + eARC with Dolby Atmos support... Actually I liked this soundbar but my tv doesn't have eARC and Dolby support... But my tv support Dolby digital plus / DTS wit ARC

This 2 years old review just saved me 37k Rs in 2022. I don't have eArc in my TV and I have planned to connect soundbar though a optical cable. So no point in purchasing G700 atmos soundbar. Thanks GeekyRanjit.
it is better to buy regular 5.1 speakers with dolby 5.1 ,, if want to go higher just but soundbar which has upfiring speakers and dedicated back speakers.

Pay attention here sir @Geekyranjit. The manual for supported Input audio formats, yes "Atmos over Dolby true hd" needs HDMI eARC. But you must be knowing streaming platforms don't provide you lossless "Dolby true HD or Atmos over Dolby trueHD" except Apple TV or maybe few other platforms. It would increase the size of streaming media. They provide lossy "Atmos over DD+" and is supported through HDMI ARC. Maybe this is the issue on the Netflix app on your Samsung Qled tv. HDMI ARC should at least support lossy "Atmos over DD+". It is mentioned in your manual as well.

I had auditioned this Sony Soundbar, really sound is good (if you do not consider dolby atmos thing) but went for Samsung HW Q800t as I felt Samsung sounds better than this Sony. I could feel the chest thumping bass whenever needed in Samsung, but it was bit missing in Sony. Vocals for both Sony n Samsung are clear, can give plus one to Sony
Hey guys remember sound bars CAN NEVER CREATE surround effect. If you want surround effect go for 5.1 or 7.1 system.
For 44k budget
ONKYO HTS3910 5.1 home theater is the best one.
thanks , you helped me save my 40K. I was going for this atmos sound bar but of no use and seems that 5.1 will always be the best option to have a surround sound. Also, my TV support ARC and not eARC. These days , salesmen don't explain such nitty-gritty of tech specs and that i really say to have a bad consumer experience.

Plz make a dedicated video on points / specifications to be taken care while buying TVs in 2020 and beyond for making it a future proof purchase for at least 5-7 years.
Did you try connecting an amazon firestick (3rd gen / 4K one) into the HDMI-1 for getting that ATMOS? the TV can always be connected by the arc port as in the case of older TV's. The assumption here being that the soundbar will directly decode the Audio from fire stick and the video is a pass thru.

CZcams restricted to 480p for mobile networks in india and 720p for wifi. 1080p can play in laptop only. If you want 1080p in mobile use VPN as usa ip.
Looking at the fact that most soundbars priced below 50k INR will not be able to produce much of atmos effect or vertical sound effects, is it better to go for proper 5.1 soundbar like sony RT40 to get good cinematic sound and not run for atmos? Or please suggest any good soundbar with atmos effect that has 5.1 config below 50k.

Very nice review. But you can Dolby atmos DD+ through ARC (you need eARC to get atmos true hd, for exemple you can connect a blue ray with atmos true HD in the Sony HT g700 then send the 4k Dolby vision image to the TV with ARC through the soundbar)

I have the LG SL8YG sound bar which supports Dolby Atmos. The soundbar itself supports only ARC (no eARC) but I've heard when connected to an LG TV that supports Dolby Atmos, it can receive the Atmos signal over ARC using Dolby Digital Plus. So ARC should be enough. Also, Netflix only supports the lossy version of Dolby Atmos that gets encoded using Dolby Digital Plus which is supported over ARC. All said and done, I agree with you it's really difficult to actually get a Dolby Atmos output. I had to finally buy an Apple TV 4K and then plug that into my soundbar to get Dolby Atmos output. All TVs today support Dolby Atmos on paper but I am not sure if they will pass that signal over ARC to the soundbar. It's really messy so I'm happy with my Apple TV 4K setup for now.

I have Onkyo-HT-S3910(HT-398) AVR, 5.1 with 4K+Dolby Vision+Dolby Atmos. Connected with Jamo S60 Center+Jamo Front S502 L/R Bookshelf speakers with Acoustic Audio AA321B Cubes as Surrounds which provides Awesome ATMOS feels!! I paid all in indian 30,000 Rupees here in UAE, No need to spend on Soundbar, for real heart thumping audio science just go for Home Theater which have more options than a soundbars!! CHEERS🥂👍

Even if it supports Dolby atmos it's not gonna sound like actual upward firing speakers. Go for Samsung N650 soundbar instead. It doesn't havw Dolby atmos support but it has total 8 drivers which has their own amplifiers including two unique upward firing tweeters arrangement (Acoustic beam) which sounds much livelier and gives more surround sound experience.

Geekyranjit - My Buddy, Just bought Samsung QLED Q80T and guess what ! Its not even allowing me to select Dolby Digital from Expert menu, as it is simply not there !!!
Do any of your Samsung models let u select DD? OR its all Auto only ? Unfortunately the Tv is also having burning issue and they are taking it back in 3 days but not giving cash back and instea d issuing a coupon !! Fighting hard..... Maybe u can also assit me in patching with Samsung india TV head ?

Whether its Earc or just Arc, if you have a streaming service and a tv capable of spending a Atmos signal to a soundbar it shouldn't matter it dose not just have to be earc

How would you feel about this vs the Sony NT5? Is it worth the upgrade or should I wait. I have wireless surround with my nt5 as well. The reason I ask is because the nt5 is so nice sounding

I think there is some wrong info on Dolby Atmos output. You are saying we won't get Atmos using ARC TVs. It is wrong. We do get Atmos but in Dolby digital Plus format, which most of the Streaming services use. Ofcourse to get Atmos in Dolby TrueHd format we need earc. So It is not the fault of sony. The Arc in TVs cannot output Atmos in TrueHd. Check the supported input Audio Formats in the manual page 47

Im using G700 for a week. Its awsome soundbar for this budget. Worth buying. I got it for 37k in a retail shop.

I am getting atmos signal when connecting soundbar directly to Apple TV 4K and soundbar to arc port on 2018 LG TV. Doesn’t have eARC. However it doesn’t work very well with Netflix. Audio drops every few minutes. Surprisingly every other source atmos content plays flawlessly - be it Amazon prime or Apple TV + app.

Yes be careful before buying any sound bar I had bad experience on it ,I was having old led tv lg ,I planned to by bluetooth speaker for my mobile as well to connect to tv,so I got sony HTC290 ,I didn't have any idea about ARC port,I asked sales person in store will it can be connected to tv he said yes,but I when I got the system I tried to connect it was not connecting,than I asked sony support ,they said you tv need to have ARC port to work,than I got 32 inch sony tv simply wasted of budget ......
