  • Iain brings us up to speed with a number of jobs currently in the workshop. In Part 1, he introduces us to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3, a real wolf in sheeps clothing. Whilst it may not shout high performance to look at, the performance is staggering for a car of it's size and age, and Iain explains the secret behind that incredible acceleration. We also catch up on progress with the yellow Lamborghini Miura S, the Black Forest barn-find, which is now fully stripped back to it's core shell.
Stay tuned for Part 2 which will follow very soon!
Thank you once again to everyone for the overwhelming reception of these videos and for all the support of likes, subscribes and wonderful comments.

Yes, they are truly beautiful cars, in so many ways
      In 2006 I was offered one (a 300 SEL 6.3)for $13,000
the seller asked me to drive it for 2 weeks before I made up my mind
needless to say, I drive it a lot during those first few weeks
however, I knew it's age, and it needed quite a lot of $ to bring it up to "as new" condition,
      so I didn't buy it.
I'm still kicking myself for thinking with my head, not my heart!

When I was little, late 60s, we lived in Munich. My father told me of him racing one of these 6.3s in his Miura, he recounted that he could not shake the 6.3 on the straights, only in the corners. But, every time the road opened up again the 6.3 would haul him in. This was on the open road, not a race track! Always wanted one of these from his stories but had to make do with a 123 300D!

Amazing how over half a century ago Daimler Benz engineers had a rough idea that pumping gas right into an engine's combustion chamber at a higher pressure than usual produced a big V8 with exceptional power, smoothness, and drivability. The grandfather of all of today's direct injection big-power gas engines. I'm sure Bosch took a lot of what they learned from this car in designing the CIS injection system of the 70's-80's and gave us cool stuff like the W116 6.9 sedan, Porsche 930, etc.

Just caught this what an absolutely beautiful car that Mercedes 399 SEL is. I am slightly biased I am a Merc man through and through but that car is absolutely stunning and the colour is perfection.

Love the fuel injection info, never knew it was developed for aircraft

it wasn't actually. The first application was on a little 2 stroke car called a 'GutBrod'. It was recognized early on that injection would enable a fighter plane to maneuver without problems so was developed for the Daimler inverted engine.

Mr. Tyrrel we want you to continue to post those treasure videos for many, many years from now. Plz fasten your seatbelts. I think that 6.3 still have the 2 points belts, but I couldn’t see you wearing them either. If you used, please excuse me. Greetings from Brazil. Stay safe.
