My sister took a photography class in high school. They had a bunch of these EOS 1000D cameras that the students could take home to practice with over the weekends.
That was how I first got into photography 2 years ago by trying out a camera that my sister had borrowed from school. Not long after I found a used 1100D for very cheap which is what I use for all my digital photography, it gets the job done.
For film I got a Konica Autoreflex T3, which is also very nice, and I got mine even cheaper than the EOS 1100D at a flea market.

I have a soft spot for the Canon Rebel series, as our American cousins call them. I missed my old Canon 550D, mainly for the pancake lenses which I'd kept, and recently bought a 100D as a replacement. It's a tiny combo with 24mm 2.8 lens. You got lucky there Peter.

My only DSLR is a 450D I got for Christmas in 2009. Still use it quite often and don't see much need for upgrading apart from, as you pointed out, high noise above 400.

I have that Cannon 40D which is heavy, got a 1000VF film which is light😅. I havexan old Rolleiflex standard and a Exakta Vb

The Sigma EX-DG lenses are far superior to Canon.
