    I love how they portray Odin as a totally cold blooded sociopath. The man was so calm and manipulative that you could see how he was able to easily trick so many people into doing his bidding like they would talk about in the previous game, while at the same time being a cruel sadist. I mean, how he was able to kill Thor as soon as his son said no was actually shocking. This dude was every bit as evil as Mimir said.

      @@jinji_xoYou cant say the details never changed and then immediately say the details were changed by Faye lol. No consistency.
      Kratos was originally supposed to die in the giants prophecy. But Kratos’s wife Faye specifically subverted the Giant’s prophecy (went against the giant’s wishes and made a path herself) and made it unclear in the stone murals in Jotunheim, so that Kratos and Atreus would both prevail in the end by not knowing the full story. Angrboda specifically says this in the last cutscene after Ragnarok when talking to Kratos and Atreus.
      The finer details did change.

    The scariest part about Odin as a villain is that there are people out there in real life exactly like him. There are people so selfish that they only see others as either a tool or an obstacle and they will stop at nothing to get what they want. They think they can do no wrong and always blames everything on others even their own wrong doings. They manipulate others and make people think that they are their friend, but it's only a means to get what they want. They have never loved other people, and they never will.

    • @nekolu
      @nekolu Před rokem +46

      Nah the scariest thing about Odin is that he’s what kratos used to be. Kratos was the same way, everyone was either a tool or an obstacle. The difference being is that everyone could also be irrelevant, making kratos kinda merciful as long as you don’t stand in his way. Odin just finds a way to slither into everyone else’s lives and either uses them or destroys them.

      Are you saved? Where will you go when you die? Heaven or hell?
      The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell.
      John 1:1,14 KJV

      1 John 3:8 KJV
      He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
      Isaiah 9:6 KJV
      For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty GOD, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

      edit. I believe that he would find a way to deal with Baldur too. I am curious though, what would happen, if someone chopped his head off, like with Mimir. Would his head regrow back on his body? Would the rest of the body regenerate from his head? Or it needed to be "reattached" and then it would heal? Or he would be condemned to the fate worse than death, being the living head in the hands of the ghost of sparta(it is different for Mimir, he asked Kratos to chop his head off, but imagine doing that to the psycho like Baldur during fight)? I know that Baldur is supposed to be "blessed with invulnerability to all threats, physical or magical", but i seriously doubt that it would deter the one and only GHOST OF FUCKIN' SPARTA.

    How they portrayed Odin was astounding, an art. With how Mimir told his stories back in 2018 I envisioned Odin as serious, cold, and sadistic. But this was far beyond my expectations, he was funny and seemed to be a chill God but actually very manipulative with his pretend acts of kindness. Along with how they portrayed Asgard just an ordinary village, no castle and no palace. This game had to been the best representation of Norse mythology and I've read, watched, and played games inspired and taken place in the pantheon and even written a novel about Norse mythology as well but this is beautiful.

    Just goes to show that Odin looked at his own son as nothing more than a toy he could throw at whoever he hated. The lack of hesitation he has when killing Thor is pure psychopathic; Thor's refusal was a direct insult to Odin's obsessive aspect of control, and with that insult, Odin instantly chose death.

      Nope.. that’s not true at all. Zeus according to the Greeks was everywhere, and has seen everything, so there is nothing he doesn’t already know..by the time of creation (he travelled through time and space, .(.χρόνου κραδαντος και μεσου ελευσας..) till his “death” he knew everything. Of course the narrative of the two pantheons is different when it comes to knowledge, truth, and actual power. Odin tries through prophecy and magic to find out facts in the Norse mythology, while in the other Zeus has the knowledge already, and it is protected in his mind by… guess who… Kras/ Kratos.. now in the games we see a Zeus possessed by fear since the box of Pandora opened. That is why the oracles prophecy blinded him although he knew Kratos was not his true enemy. Even Athena who has a glimce of his knowledge and wisdom, is a better manipulator than anyone in this game series..😂 imagine if the Olympians were not “poisoned” by the evil elements. Btw these elements in free translation are gluttony,fornication,avarice,sadness,wrath,boasting,dejection and pride.. the deadly sins by the Christian religion. That’s how much the greek mythology affected our culture!

      He was an expertly written foil for Kratos, both absolute powerhouses but Kratos learned to grow from being a destroyer where Thor was manipulated into thinking that’s all he had. Kratos reminded Thor of his family and his own journey of being better for them which changed his mind.
      It really illustrates how far Kratos has really come.

    • @heiveldboy
      @heiveldboy Před rokem +38

      @@ERBanmech Throughout the story it's very clear that Thor, while loving a scrap, is manipulated by his father into being nothing but a mindless fighter. Just yesterday I saw the scene where Odin mockingly asks what Thor could've taught Atreus and Thor answers with nothing and walks away. Thor's self-esteem is in shambles and his father is deliberately keeping it like that so that he can control Thor.
      In that way he's also a foil to Atreus, whose father, while stern, generally allows Atreus to make his choices. Kratos explicitly states that while he doesn't believe in what Atreus is doing he still follows and "indulges Atreus's every whim."
      I think Thor is ultimately written as a tragic figure of abuse.

    Seeing Thor so defeated kinda hurts. At the beginning of the game when we first fought, I was eager to slay him, but after realizing his story, he’s nearly a victim and I couldn’t bring myself to kill Thor even if the game allowed me to do it.
    Thor grew up a horrible childhood by Odin who used him for his raw power. He was never allowed to think or do on his own, he’s been sent out on a killing spree all the while being told to never even make a single thought, to ‘close his heart to their suffering’. Just destroy, he’s been told this so much that he thought it to be impossible to do otherwise and it’s a shame that Kratos who’s known as the God killer spared his life because he seen that Thor can change vs Odin the renowned All-Father savior of the 9 realms kills Thor because he seen him change.
    That why he relapsed into drinking, as a way to deal with the fact of knowing not only your own sins, but also that your father is using you like a pawn. Yet you refuse to accept reality. Thor even feels remorse for his sins, he wanted Kratos to end him and you could tell when he cried out “You know what I’ve done?!”
    And what’s crazier, is that Thor knowing Kratos’ past thought he was gonna end him which is why he asked “what are you waiting for” but never thought his father would be the one to end him because he never seen Odin killed anyone, Odin just always sent Thor to do his dirty work. So Thor thought since he’s no longer gonna be used he could just walk away, and his own father killed him without a second of hesitation.

    The way Odin says “No, I can’t” to Atreus makes it seem like he always knew how cruel he has been, like he had a conscience. He knows he could’ve done better but let his selfishness guide him. Makes me wonder if he was insecure about that selfishness.

      Given how this story diverges wildly from the canon Norse mythology, that is now difficult to do. I mean, Kratos did Balder in starting Fimbulventr rather than Loki (Atreus); Kratos killed Modi despite the canon saying he and his brother Magni surviving Ragnarok; he even killed Fenrir who is supposed to be the one to eat Odin during Ragnarok...

    I felt like there was a bit of a romantic connection between Kratos and Freya at the end. It was nice to see Freya treat Artreus as her own. I hope Kratos keeps Freya as his companion when he moves else where. This game was an absolute thrill and intense, some parts were touching emotionally. Especially when Fenrir died at the beginning, I really felt that part. 10/10 for me overall.
