Okay guys so as I explained in the intro, I THOUGHT I was watching a specific BABYMETAL performance that I saw on a quick glance of Alex Hefner's stream.. However, I was wrong. 🙈 I guess I clicked the wrong one. 🤷🏻♀️ But ya know what, BABYMETAL is BABYMETAL and we got another song in our reaction catalog - so that's still a win in my book. 😁🎵
Let me know what you guys think of this one (and provide the correct one, please 😂) And don't forget it leave me a request! 🎵🎧

Great reaction - you've already been told which performance you were looking for and how the lyrics are a play on words between the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) which means "to be - I am, we are - it is" etc and how it sounds like the English word Death.
This was the first song on the first album and it really is just them introducing themselves by name - the full title of the song is not just Death, it is 'BABYMETAL Death'.
Yes the opening drums is an homage to Metallica's 'One', you were right about that. If you watch the Legend 1997 performance that does have the crucifixion there is another homage to Metallica at the end of the performance - and an homage to X Japan's drummer Yoshiki too.
Death Legend 1997 is the one you need to see. Unbelievable!
the version you were probably looking for is the Legend 97 concert. the concert, on whole, was one giant metal opera ; pretty legendary.
yes, that opening drum line was lifted from Metallica's _One_ (as well as a couple of other references, i just can't think of them at the moment)
The statue behind Su that fragments at the Legend 97 concert was also a pretty clear homage to Lady Justice from that one Metallica tour.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀
The “death” in the song title and lyrics is a play on words.
The Japanese word “desu”, pronounced “des”, can mean “I am”, or “We are”.
If you say that word with a little bit of a lisp, it sounds like “death”.
So this song is also their way of introducing themselves.
That’s why it was usually performed as the opening song.
The LEGEND 1997 version was a special version for Su-metal’s 16th birthday in 2013, and was the closing number.
Oh okay, thank you for explaining. That was very helpful. 🎵 I will definitely have to check out the Legend 97 version as well. ☺️
Somehow you missed all the crucifixions. LMAO Death from the Legend 1997 show is one of the best. The song is about the singer being killed and being reborn as the Goddess of Metal who brings light to the world thru song, thus the crucifixions you didn't see.
😂 Ahh okay, thank you! I will check that one out too. 😁
Damn, right song, wrong performance 😂. Right version: BABYMETAL DEATH from Legend 1997 (Dec 2013), celebrating lead Su-metal’s 16th birthday. Worth a 2nd reaction.

Also. The start is 100% a nod to Metallica, and so is the ending of the Legend 1997 version.
Babymetal Desu (silent u) = “We are Babymetal”. Play on words on “death”. Often used as an intro song (closer for Legend 1997 show).
🤘🦊
So happy to see you react to another Babymetal song! Thanks!
This is one of their proudest early moments - Budokan (the stadium they are playing here) is one of the most prestigious in Japan and it's invite only. Due to this concert series they are the youngest female led band to ever play the venue, and they absolutely killed it. The entire concert (both nights) are fantastic, and have a few truly epic performances.
The most iconic performance of "Babymetal Death" is from "Legend 1997" concert, it is performed on Su-Metal's 16th birthday and the song is the close for the concert, that is possibly the one you saw (though they have been crucified a few times, usually as a birthday present). Legend 1997 is also unique as the whole set is performed like an old school rock opera, not as in your face as some from decades ago but it is telling the story of Su-Metal giving up her JPop future to become a metal goddess, "Death" is the final song of the set. It also Much more clearly pays homage to Metallica, you will notice stage components that will be very familiar if you watch it. It is also the only time I have seen the same song performed twice in a set (im sure its done other times in history, i just never saw it done before), Headbanger is their opener and its an operatic then house mix, then Headbanger is their 13th song in the set as a metal version. Just interesting.
👍For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I present you with BABYMETAL Death.😉
An interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity:
Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase.
Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL.
The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show.
🦊 🖖 ❤
I love thar you and other reaction channels are going for this version of death, i have seen the cruxifictions so many times already 😅
There are several crucifixions. The first and original, and rare video if you can find it, is from 2012 Legend Coset festival. Legend I, Legend D, and Legend Z (DVD has bonus footage of the Legend Corset show)
Legend 1999, Legend 1997 (the one everyone wants you to react to) , Tokyo Dome (all three girls emerge crucified), Legend S, Legend XX, and Clear Night (2023 MomoMetal's first crucifixion as official member)
I‘d like to see Alex Hefner reaction to this song as well. Does anybody know whether it‘s still online?
4:33 B...A...B...Y...M...E...T...A...L!! Sumetal death...Yuimetal death...Moametal death...🦊🦊🦊
Too bad about the crucifixion but I’ve never seen this video before. Loved it.
Hehe well I'm glad! 🎵
Great reaction, thanks!
I actually like this version a lot. It shows the song's main use, as it was intended to be when it was composed: a show opener that hits in your face.
Because they are actually introducing themselves in a very cute and metal way, using a play on words (by mispronouncing "Desu" as "Death").
The Legend 1997 version was a special performance within the whole concert context. And yes, let's say it's quite a bit visually shocking. 🤣
Until next time!
🤘🦊
This is a really cool opening song 👌
Just Su on Cross might be Legend 1997 or Legend S, but if all of them are on the crosses . It could be Toyko Dome opening with Death on Dark Night or a recent show BabyMetal Returns at the PIA Arena clear night, which i think it will be 😃

wow your reactions are always beautiful, I love them a lot. keep it up beautiful
Great reaction🤘🦊🤘
If they were all on crosses then probably it's from babymetal begins clear night. It's one of the recent videos on their official channel.
The title is "BABYMETAL Death". Not just "Death" 😉
I know everyone wants the Legend 1997 performance for the shock and awe factor, but IMO it has been reacted to death (pun intended) 😂
Like everyone said, probably best performance is from the Legend 1997 show, but this is fire too 👍
If you're still interested in checking that one out I would recommend you also do the song before in that performance called 'Akatsuki (Unfinished Ver.)'.
Basically the opposite to this song to not spoil too much and as far as I know they only performed this unfinished version once, so you can't really pick the wrong one 😜
Will also recommend 'Unlucky Morpheus - Angreifer (live)' again, I think Nightwish fans might enjoy this 😉
Anyway, nice reaction 😅
🤘🦊🤘
Thanks so much, I will add them all to my list! 😊 And you're right - I figured I couldn't go wrong with any of them. 😂
Su-metal is crucified. LEGEND 1997 SU-METAL Nativity Festival in 2013
This live. Budokan in 2015
Three princesses were crucified. Tokyo Dome in 2016
If you listen carefully, you will find that Death is not actually said until the very end. Througout the song, it is "desu"
Desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Su-metal desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Yuimetal desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Moametal desu!
Desu!
Desu!
Desu!
BABYMETAL desu!
...
Yep, the wrong video. But then I've seen a few reactors watching this wrong video recently.
Really? Dang. I did just click the one with the highest views thinking somehow that'd be right. But I'll be checking out Legend 97 eventually now that I know. 😅
Hiiii
Please react band from indonesia " deadsquad - curse of the black plague "
Thank you! I'll add it to my list to do. 😁🎵
Grat reaction, but wrong video, the best version of Death is from the LEGEND 97 concert, if you can react to that, is a great performance of death and resurrection...
They are spelling out B A B Y M E T A L.
Hi, Sweetheart Reaction To This Songs
In This Moment - The In Between
My Last Breath x Going Under Evanescence (Mashup)
Kerli + In This Moment - Savages + In Between (Mashup)
Just to be a pain, the title of the song is "BABYMETAL DEATH". This version is the "Budokan Black Night (2014)" version which is my second favorite version. IMO (and I think I can speak for the majority of The One), the best version is the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version - that's the one that has a crucifixion. In keeping with the BABYMETAL style (that is, taking various genres of music and applying them to kawaii metal), the "Legend 1997" version is what I consider their try at shock rock (like Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, etc.). Since there is no law that says you can't react to that version, I think you should give it a look - it may be the same song (more or less) but it is a TOTALLY different stage production. This Budokan version is mild compared to the Legend version. Just remember two things: first, it is all theatrics; and second, NOT A CULT!!!
I know this isn't your first run with BABYMETAL, and I'm pretty sure I mentioned a CZcams playlist in one of your previous BABYMETAL reactions (that playlist being "BABYMETAL Top Twenty") but here's that list with accompanying versions (undoubtedly you've already reacted to several of them):

Iine! (official MV)
Gimme Chocolate!! (official MV or Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Megitsune (official MV)
BABYMETAL Death (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version) [for those who are religiously sensitive, see the Budokan Black Night 2014 version]

Song 4 No Uta (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Uki Uki * Midnight (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Catch Me If You Can (Budokan Black Night 2014 version)
Ijime, Dame, Zettai (Live at Sonisphere 2014 version)
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! (Legend 1997 Apocalypse version)
Road of Resistance (Legend 2015 New Year Fox Festival version)
Karate (official MV)

Keep rockin' BABYMETAL!!!
KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
Welcome back to the Foxhole NikkiMetal 🦊🤘
Unfortunately you fall in the right song but wrong version. The one you were looking for is live at Legend 1997, that's the suggestion all of us gave you in the comments, a lot of reactors are falling in this version just because of the amount of views and people thinking it's the most shocking version like the one you saw at Alex Hepfner reaction.
Kindly suggest you to stay away from this channel who upload this song because is a shady dude who likes to share pics and vids of the girls only when being teenagers and underage, a lot of casual fans didn't know about this yet, that's why he keeps getting traction on feeds and song suggestion from his channel.
Btw the song title is "Babymetal Death" and not just "Death" alone, this is live at Budokan 2014 version, a nice version to enjoy the song but not so spectacular like Legend 1997.
Keep enjoying BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘
Um, this is not the best of the Death videos. There's no 'crucifixion' in this version. You need to watch the LEGEND 1997 (Su's birth year) version to see the real version. This is good, but it's only 10% of the amazing performance of this song you normally see.
