      Thanks for stating 'animal', instead of limiting the observation to dogs.

      @Milamberinx Před 2 lety +1

      @@Bloxeh it's not 'animals' though, it's some animals. Bees can talk, but they mainly talk about where to find nectar and pollen. Sponges don't talk.

    • @Bloxeh
      @Bloxeh Před 2 lety +1

      @@Milamberinx But that's what I meant. Other animals, especially non-mammals have forms of intelligence we can not even grasp. I think we shouldn't dismiss animals as less valuable, just because they are different. Many of them are probably even more valuable in terms of contribution to eco systems.
      I just liked that the comment stated 'animals'. A common viewpoint is that pets are more valuable, are more deserving of protection than other species. The arguments often fit exactly the narrative in how people exploit animals. Eg "chicken aren't as intelligent as my pets, thus I can have them bred, mutilated and killed for me without questioning my exploitative consumerism".
      A statement like "dogs are intelligent" doesn't challenge the world view of most people. Therefore I think it is important to point out intelligence and overall worth of all animals any chance we get.

      That's not what that means. They've asked her who that is before, and she couldn't answer, but any time she's asked _them_ who that is, they tell her it's Bunny. This means there is no reason to necessarily think that Bunny recognizes herself, so much as she recognizes Bunny as the right answer to that question, even though it's also the word they use to get her attention.

      As future mentions, it's not really possible to say what dogs understand or do not from their behaviour, especially when it is prompted. They're not able to explain their reasoning after all. Anything you or anyone else says about the behaviour of animals is at best a loose guess and at worst just pure projection.

    • @futurestoryteller
      @futurestoryteller Před 3 lety +72

      @@jimmehjiimmeehh9748 Yeah, but this stuff gets very philosophical like "How do I know you're not pretending to have feelings?" type stuff. The mirror test is a classic self-awareness experiment. It has its skeptics and detractors across the spectrum, but there are probably ways along those lines to test if Bunny understands what she's been told. Like seeing if she'd recognize a change in her appearance through the mirror, and whether or not she'd try to change it back.

    I still find it interesting that even as she explores the differences between human and dog, Bunny still calls mom a friend.
    The same word she uses for the other dogs.
    Makes me wonder if she actually thinks of their relationship differently and just lacks a word or understanding to conceptualize stronger attachment.
    Im also very very interested in the possibility of her giving meaning to barks another dog may say. Like if the neighbor dog barks and mom asks what dog say could Bunny respond with something like stranger. And what roads could this travel in the future.

    I swear, I thought she was referring to the cat as "different" from human and dog, her comprehension - she is "telling" you how she understands the differences between people, dogs, sounds that are "good", or "strange" if she's worried or not recognizing them? Why aren't we spending government funds on "dog communication", when dogs are such a GREAT gift to us in friendship, love, & service already? Is there no profit margin? Bunny is just so cute, so sweet on top of her smarts! She is amazing!

    Of all those "animals talking with buttons" videos, this is probably the most impressive. And the speed in which she finds the correct buttons - she literally _walks_ over them at this point in the correct order. I have no doubt that she understands their meaning, by the way she responds (e.g. looking at the cat when asked where the cat is).
    There must be something in this mirror theory, that once a creature reflects itself in a mirror and recognizes that it's her, her levels of consciousness and mental skills start to increase faster. Makes you wonder if the Monolith in "2001: A Space Odyssey" had a reflective surface :J

    I've always thought that animals were far more aware of their existence then some people give them credit for. That's why when cats and dogs get rescued they start to calm down. Because they know they are safe and in good hands on with us. They recognize us as different and we can help them. That takes awareness.

      There are several videos of young Bunny trying to play with the cats, but the cats are unwilling and possibly scared by the excited pup.
      After a while Bunny seems to realize that play with cat is not going to happen. There is one video when she expresses via buttons that she wants to play with one cat but when the cat doesn't react, Bunny presses "later".
      Then there is the phase of "cat bye" and being afraid of the cats (particularly Uni, the orange one). In one video Uni sits next to Bunny's toy and Bunny asks mom for help getting the toy.
      In another, Uni sits on the couch and Bunny is frustrated because she wants onto the couch, but the cat is already there.
      So, it seems that there is no good communication between Bunny and the cats.

    I think it was impossible.
    2 solutions :
    1)it can be possible and amazing!
    2) we already see her mom told bunny that was herself (bunny) in this mirror, when bunny is looking in the mirror she don't understand what she see so she repeat what she learn = this object is a type of bunny? 🤔
    Sorry for the quality of my english : i'm french

    • @johannageisel5390
      @johannageisel5390 Před 3 lety +1

      She knows that "Bunny" is a word that describes her as an individual. She can differentiate Bunny from her friends Selena, Tango and Beacher and also from Mom and Dad.
      She also once identified her reflection as "dog", so I believe she did not recognize herself, but at least understood what she was seeing. She also correctly identified her mom in the mirror a couple of months ago.
      My hypothesis is, that although Bunny did not figure out by herself that she was seeing herself, she may now begin to understand it after having been told repeatedly that it is her.
      We'll have to monitor her interactions with the mirror further to find out whether she will be able to "use" the mirror. For example to inspect parts of her body she could not otherwise see.
      I'm not conviced she fully understands yet what a mirror does and what opportunities it provides, but may eventually figure it out.

I never thought one day in my life I’d see dogs communicating by talking buttons about “strangers” instead of barking! I wish all dogs could do that so the neighbors would have a bit more peace!
