  • The Land Rover Discovery 3 makes another appearance this time an update on what it has cost me so far on repairs and also some small modifications I've made to made it look a little bit more 'rugged'. There are still some outstanding issues with this car but I'm hoping to bring future videos to you on fixing those and anything else that comes out of using one of these as a daily driver!

    Few water leak possibilities on these! 1. Check pollen filter is dry. Pull glovebox hinges to the side to drop glovebox. Open filter letterbox. Check filter. If wet remove wipers and scuttle trim. Use milk bottle plastic to shield air intake. 2. Could be holes in external A pillar. Cut lower prong off Black trim and seal the hole where it would go. Ensure seals are good in trim clips. 3. Roof gutter could leak.

      I saw a video that if it was wet in the carpet , it could come from the sunroof. hope you find the leak

    "Alarming", that well describes Land Rover ownership- nearly a decade in I have a volume of receipts and spares "in stock"! But I wouldn't want to drive anything else...
    Always had a soft spot for the D3 but never had one, so it's interesting to here how you've got on with it.

      @granblogismo  Před rokem

      Haha! Yeah I can imagine amassing a bit of a parts collection, I’d love an old defender one day but the D3 suits us for the moment as our other daily isn’t quite as reliable as it was so it’s a great backup even if it has problems of its own 🤣

    great catch up video .Seeing your videos on the MGB GT earlier this year made me decide to buy one after a 40 year gap.! I blame you now lol.
    Regarding the leak in the LR Discovery 3 you might check the windscreen seal if you haven't already done so. Water can track all the way from the top of the screen down the edges and in towards the centre ,underneath the seal . My MGB GT had leaks on both front and back screens which has caused extensive hidden rusting around the screens and in the car.
    A simple but effective test is to smear vasoline around the windscreen rubbers to see if that stops the leak . If it does it will temporarily stop the leaking and also give you some time to prepare for cleaning out and re-sealing the screen seals.

      @granblogismo  Před rokem +1

      Aha! Great stuff! I don’t mind being responsible for MGB purchases 🤣 thanks for the advice on the screen being a possible source of the leaks, could be onto something so I’ll definitely check that!! Good luck with the ‘B GT!

    Great vid as per usual - love the disco 3 and the mods thus far, as far as the leak, the sunroof drain tubes are usually the culprit (weak plastic always cracks at the joint, same problem of disco 4 as well!) and give a sunroof calibration a go too, the anti-trap is rather fussy with debris in the mechanism. Keep up the great vids 👍

    Sunroof drains are probably plugged. It happened on my XJ8.

    There’s a design flaw with the cabin air intake on North American LR3s (left hand drive), e.g., the cabin air intake vent opening under the cowl panel is directly at the base of the windshield. So if the cowl panel does not seal against the glass water goes directly into the cabin filter and floors. Your wipers will also push the water under a worn out cowl panel. Might be similar in right hand drive. I modified the intake on my LR so that it did not stick out beyond the base of the windshield if the cowl panel leaked and installed a new cowl panel. Use professional aluminum hvac ducting tape, not “duct tape” to cover the part of the intake that sticks out. It’s also a must to replace sunroof drain tubing or just the end elbow before they leak.

    • @granblogismo
      @granblogismo  Před rokem

      Great info, thanks for that! I’ve fixed a couple of hoses that were blocked but I’ll have to check the air intake vent and sunroof drain, the cowling doesn’t seal against the screen but I ruled that out as the main leak by taping that up, could do with replacing it anyway though 👍 thanks for the comment!!

    Had two disco 3’s .first one had 7 years and loved it but it did have its issues. Get ontop of that water leak asap or it will cost big time. We had water coming in the roof drains and cost big to repair. Second disco has had issues with electronic handbrake module and rear suspension. Not cheap. We love ours and use it regularly for towing and long distances.

    • @granblogismo

      Good stuff! I’ve hopefully fixed the leak, two drain pipes either side of trans/gearbox tunnel were blocked but we’ll see when it rains next 🤣 I think it’s one of those cars that doesn’t make much sense financially but the cars you actually want rarely do! Cheers!

    Hi You might find that the leak into the footwell is because the sunroof drain hole and tube is blocked. Plenty of video showing how to unblock

    My gearbox floated in the revs and seemed like it slipped, serviced it and used 2 lots of dr tranny shudder fix and now its like new, before you go for a torque converter, try it as its £21 vs £500+ plus labour

      Hi there. Just curious, is this straight forward to DIY? Mines done 100k and has the same symptoms... and also a vibration/shudder at 1500rpm, particularly in top gear cruising. If it's simple enough (I've not looked into these gearboxes) just swap the oil etc, I'll do it myself. Cheers in advance

    You really can’t compare the price of service with the price of purchase. These rovers need to be serviced regular,y. I don’t believe they are any worse than Mercedes or bmw. I’ve had land rovers and the service is expensive. However, if you service it regularly as I did, I found that I got 200,000 miles with no major issues.
