- It's been another long week of rain but finally the sun made an apearance and we could continue with the outside work of digging trenches for the water pipes and uncovering the septic tank which was hidden underneath the old outside bathroom.

I’m always in awe at so many of you Brits buying these structures that have no amenities and you have to live in a construction zone, in your case it’s just you and you are getting a lot of the work done by contractors and there’s a decent pace to the construction. Others live in this state of mess for years probably due to financial issues and I admire their positivity and cheerfulness while dealing with cold, damp and less than perfect condition. I know it’s not for me ever. I can’t do mess.
I completely understand what you are saying Ruth. We are ultimately seeking a better way of life, holding a bigger vision and just working towards that vision. Living in mess, as you say, gives us a real appreciation of the finished home. It’s not easy, that’s for sure, but there is a huge sense of satisfaction when you see projects coming together. In Portugal there are a lot of abandoned houses in disrepair so they are affordable and it’s a way to achieve the dream of a simpler more sustainable life 🙏💕
I Soo agree! A kitchen set up is easy, like camping, but no 1 priority is the septic tank and a bath! Heating water on gas is easy for that! 😊

I hope your daughter went well in the Brighton Marathon and made it to the end. The renovations are coming along well, I imagine you can't wait until it's done. The fields of lavender were absolutely beautiful, I imaging the perfume in the air was truly intoxicating, I don't think I could have resisted picking bunches and bunches of it xxx
Hi Pauline, my daughter finished with a time of 5 hours 36 minutes which was amazing for her first marathon. She could barely walk at the end though, bless her.
I didn’t need to pick any lavender as it grows on my land and all around me. I feel blessed 🙏💕

Yes, there is life outside of the house works. It’s important for me to take me time away from the house. If I’m there I can’t help but work 😅💕
Suzi you should ask Thoe and Bea to help you cut your grass and dig your vegetable beds for you to start on your gardens. It will be easier for you to maintain the gardens. You could offer your help in their orchid . Maybe a thought to help you get started .
Hi Charmaine, I’m very able to cut the grass. I won’t be starting on any vegetable areas in the orchard until I have put an irrigation system in place 😀🙏
I think that is a Western false smooth snake. They are venomous but are no considered dangerous because of their calm nature and the fact they rarely bite.The distinctive marking across the neck gives it away. Let us know how you daughter got on. ❤

It has so much open land. Portugal has ten very large National Parks

Hello Suzie, that looked like a baby viper?
I only ever saw grass snakes in Faymoreau, France. One was sunbathing under some thick , black plastic. As i tried to move the plastic, it was weighted, i thought it was one of my cats!
Both startled, we made our seperate exists!
It was a HUGE, green grass snake, it was beautiful though, that's the fun of living in the countryside, all the experiences you have.

She was saying that there is a rule in Portugal, that due to heat and fires, all dry growth around home areas must be cut down. This is in her latest Sunday post. I think it has a solar attachment? It will be the answer for you.😊
