  • As public housing authorities have struggled to match shrinking federal support with growing demand for housing assistance, there’s been a dramatic shift to new forms of development and hybrid communities. Affordable housing managers lay out the vision and the rationale for what they describe as a better way forward for those most in need of housing assistance.

I would really like to see a Habitat approach to rebuilding affordable housing. Residents that are able bodied should be asked to participate with the rebuilding, even if it's simple things like painting and landscaping. People need to feel a sense of responsibility for helping to maintain the property and have a stake and active role in the neighborhoods they live in.

Well, we need to start teaching life skills, job skills in middle school instead of figuring out ways to create a world where people are totally dependent on the government. It doesn’t work when you put a large group of poor people in one building or one community.

They say this to get the funding to only turn around and charge 1000 dallor a mo for a coffin of an apartment or 6 figures plus to own. They not understanding there's people out here that still makes less than 15/hr. Less than 12 hr and less than 10/hr. Get fuqin real!

One weeks pay for one months stay!
We have a baseline for wages but not accommodation.
This makes no sense and simply doesn't work.
The average lowest rent in 2022, ranged from $1,200 to $1,500 per month in many places.
The monthly income, based on the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour for a full-time job of 40 hours per week,,amounts to around $1,256.96 per month before taxes.
HUD's Definition of Affordable Housing: The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines housing as affordable if a household pays no more than 30% of its income on housing costs, including rent or mortgage, utilities, and insurance.
This cannot be done in todays rental market.
We need to mandate that all new multifamily complexes include a percentage of baseline units (300 Sq Ft) that can ONLY rent for 40 hours net pay at minimum wage.
Eligibility of these units would be capped.
When the persons income exceeds +X% (determined by local authority) of minimum wage they are expected to move on to a market rate unit.
This will eliminate the need to subsidize market rate units and create a viable option for those on fixed incomes as well.

  • @kimberlyowens5496

They have to limit the very low income, sadly, because a lot of them dont take care of the unit and bring crime. Sad but facts.

I live in Massachusetts and am on SSDI. I have been homeless for 4 years. I was denied emergency housing because when I got an eviction letter I left. They require require you to be court evicted. I thought I was doing the morally right thing to do. Who do I contact in my state to help me. I have an emotional support animal so I can't go to a shelter. I'm really struggling. Who can help me?

Wish you didn't leave. If your rent was paid and you've done no damage, take your day in court. Ppl cheat the kind person because they take it for weakness.
Really try to have the eviction removed. Because you left, the judge did not have you removed. Please try to get it off your record. Keep praying, and blessings will come. ❤️

    • @pennyc11
      @pennyc11 Před dnem

@@thotunewstildont5348 I'd say look into rooms for rent to start. Get on as many waiting lists as possible. Cut spending to minimum to save for a deposit. Many times, having a deposit ready will help you get into better housing.
The pet, unfortunately is a difficulty. Ask shelter workers for resources. Sadly, bad pet owners have messed up that option. Find some easy work to do. On SSDI you are allowed to work some. It is very hard to save money just on SSDI, depending on how much you receive.
Contact agencies that specialize in work with the disabled. It requires a plan and some struggle but 4 years homeless? Uh time to get busy. If you get help and waste it getting drunk or high? Those are signs of depression. It is a step backwards and this does affect the help you will get.
As much as some people want to think. The majority of people do not want to be around someone going backwards, living in bitterness. If any of this sounds familiar? That is where to start. There is room for improvement but if someone is sabotaging their opportunities with unrealistic demands or demand unrealistic privileges? That person is already behind in the game of life.
Yes, I am disabled.I understand the struggle that comes from having your abilities taken away from you and trying to figure out a life with limited potential. The key is figuring out what you can do, rather then focusing too much on what you can't.

Exactly. She started mixed- income communities back in 1994, before the Olympics. That's why it's referred to as the "Atlanta Model." They were the first city to completely demolish all of the housing projects and replace them with mixed income properties.
The bonus is not warehousing low income tenants in a defined area. It also gives property managers tenants who are paying market rates so that they have the income to upkeep the buildings.

It's not freedom. It's owned. It's rules. It's oppression and depression. It's living with your boss 24/7 and you have the cubicle in the corner. For me, I have a autoimmune disease of my nervous system. The more stress the more pain. I am expected to work p.t, live alone, even throughout covid, I still worked risking my safety to keep a roof over my head and Medicaid. Since Biden I have been eating Roman noodles for every meal so I can afford to eat something. This isn't freedom or even a benefit. It's too control and abuse the system on the top end.
