Don and Phil were such an influence on John and Paul -- it seems so fitting that Paul would furnish the brothers with their comeback hit. I love this song.
At the age of 74 and living in the Netherlands far from America, this is the music that touches me deep in my soul. I wish many would listen to The Everly Brothers, such good lyrics, I love them on the other side of the world. They often made me cry because of my loss of my daughter. Wonderful to let my emotions go on their music.

wouldn't have minded hearing the everly brothers singing over sustained power chords accompanied with 80s synth arpeggios. Their vocals suit a big space open around them.
Paul loved the Evs - he must have been pleased/honored to be asked to write a track specifically for them! I think it's one of my favourite Everly tracks, especially knowing the provenance!

I remember hearing this the first time in the 90s as a small kid and knowing McCartney wrote it, only makes it even better. This is an absolutely wonderful reendition by the Everly Brothers.
Greatness has a sound. The harmonies of these 2 great gifted singers straight from Heaven. Could listen to Don and Phil sing ALL day. God rest and keep them both.
When I have my car(I'm 20 but I need to save money), I will play this song all the time. How I wish Don and Phil could come to Brazil for at least one show... Godspeed Don! Tell Phil we are all missing you!
When Billy Joel first met Paul McCartney he said to him “I can’t believe that I’ve just met my idol,” Paul McCartney replied, “I know just how you feel. That’s how I felt when I met Phil Everly on The Beatles first tour of America”. Says it all. .
I had the pleasure of seeing the Brothers in 1988 in a small outdoor theater called Pine Knob in Michigan. I was 23 and none of my friends understood why I was going to the concert. I grew up listening to their music and was delighted to see them live. The show was outstanding, and it remains one of my favorite concerts all these years later. Thank you for the music and the memories Phil and Don. 💖
Their voices always made me cry no matter what they sang............... This song always gets to me. It will never get any better than the Everly Brothers. Great loss to the music world.
Dave Edmunds said that it was nerve wracking to call Paul McCartney to write a song, and felt he was being put off when Paul readily said "yes", three weeks later, this song hit the hands of Phil and Don Everly, who recorded it, and took it into the top 40, reaching the top 10. RIP Phil Everly.
Love the Everlys, and this is one of Sir Paul's best, but major kudos to Dave Edmunds for getting this arrangement and song to tape. This recording is nothing short of ethereal.

I agree, the song reached No.41 in the UK back in October 1984. The song should've been a UK Top 40 hit, even if it only peaked between No.40 and No.31.
You can hear the unmistakable influence they had on the Beatles. Just a great song that couldn't be sung by any other. But Paul also wrote hits for Badfinger, Mary Hopkins & many others.
for me one of the finest two and a half minutes of music ever. Who needs drugs and alcohol when you can feel so good listening to this: but I'll take a single malt with it. Great collaboration.
Had they released this 20 years earlier it would have been a number 1 and ranked alongside the other classics they did. It still deserves to be ranked alongside them just seems to be forgotten
Not forgotten by me. It's my fave song by the Everley brothers. think it would have been a bigger hit had Paul sung with them. It worked for Phil when he duetted with cliff Richard the same year and that, imo, wasn't as good a song as this one
God, 31 years ago, can't believe it. I grew up listening to the Everly's, and was delighted when they got together again. I think this was as good as anything they did in their hey day. Saw them at De Montfort Hall in 1985, and they were superb. They influenced so many acts and I don't think they get they deserve today
Pretty cool that Paul wrote a song, for his childhood heroes. It's funny because as a young man, Paul was directly writing "Everly Brothers"-esque songs, along with John Lennon.
Well, Paul McCartney was a HUGE Everly Brothers fan. He said that without them, there would have been no Beatles. They modeled their harmonies after them.
The Beatles were huge fans of Buddy Holly too, choosing the name "Beatles" by its association with "Crickets". I guess, fans of the Everly Brothers are often fans of Buddy too, and that's understandable.
Oh man, this song still sounds great forty years after I first heard it. I'm playing it twice. Maybe what McCartney's post-Beatles songs lack is harmony. It can elevate a simple song into greatness.
These songs will stay with me forever. I'm trying to teach my kids some of them; I think their harmony was so beautiful and their songs deep and I wish they'll never be forgotten. R.I.P. Phil Everly.
Bought the vinyl as soon as it came out. Gerry Conway and Terry Williams on drums. Paul McCartney played guitar on this track. Jeff Lynne arranged The Story of me, same LP.
The Everly's , their place is well cemented in Rock & Roll history ..... they sit with Elvis, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Sam Cooke, Little Richard, Gene Vincent, Ricky Nelson , to name a few !!!!!
What a big loss would it be, if we don't have this awesome music to listen. It's made for eternity to bring joy and happiness to the lives of people of all generations!!! 💖

This is my favourite Everly Brothers track. My Dad loves the Everlys and when I was little I went on a school trip to somewhere in Dorset (I think) and Dad leant me his Everlys cassette from his car so I could listen to it on my personal cassette player. :) Memories... I think this was the first track... but I used to listen to this one over and over. xxx
