BTW these are kids. Adults are already stupid... How many kids get blasted by their siblings every year?
"security theater" I really do believe this is the case. I think a whole lot of gun owners dont really care about a secure safe more than having a "safe" that passes gun storage laws.
States passing "secure storage" generally only specify a locked box of some sort. Nothing on quality of lock or box. I think CA has a standard of something like 90 seconds pick resistance for a child with household items (guess CA parents never let kids out of sight) but it's been a while since I've looked it up. "Theater" is right. Delay legitimate users in an emergency, give false sense of security regarding unauthorized access & do nothing to deter actual criminal acts.
I can guarantee the steel of this box is easier to get past than the lock. A pry bar would open it up twice as fast as that fancy picking tool. Gun safes aren’t meant to stop theft, they’re meant to slow down people who need to protect themselves, giving criminals a better chance of killing them first. The LAST thing anyone wants is some story about a gun saving someone’s life.
@@RyanGr33n A gun safe would prevent theft; those are heavy, LOL. Everything else you said about this lockbox and others like it is on-point, though. Most thieves take box & all, open it at their leisure. We have fewer than 500 unintentional shootings by children each year, yet the litany of those mandating the lockups is "if it saves one life". Never mind how many are lost due to laws putting onerous requirements on lawful citizens.
@@GryphonBrokewing Do you have an estimate on the latter number? Like, how many people died to a home invader and had a gun in a locked box in the home? But if you are making it on the basis of “the locking requirements prevent fewer accidental deaths than the number of deaths that they prevent the prevention of, well, for that to make sense the # of deaths that guns in a home might possibly prevent, would have to be higher.

I was wondering if LPL has or knows a site that lists top locks? I have seen some good ones over the years here (As well as the many bad :p) but it would be easier to look up a good site rather than rewatching 1500 old clips. Thanks for the entertainment :)
@@KPbICMAH That is still a lot to sort through. It would be great if LPL had a play list of "Better than Average" locks. I can see why he would like to avoid a "recommended" label in this day and age. Someone would buy a recommended lock, have their stuff broken into and/or stolen, and sue him for his recommendation.
There are websites that list real consumer locks you can buy that are great practice for lockpicking and ranks those based on challenge. Don't buy those. As for locks that LPL finds acceptable, it's basically any lock that requires a special tool to get into, or special knowledge.
There are companies like Sold Secure that test locks and give them security ratings, so that would be a good place to start. But lock availability varies a lot by region.
I concur with some of the other comments here. I would really like to see LPL demonstrate some "good" locks, and explain what makes them objectively better... if for no other reason than to know that such things actually exist :)
This is a product sales pitch, not a demo of a bad lock. For a gun safe, needing a specialised tool to open it would actually make it reasonably fit for its intended usecase, of protecting people (predominantly kids) who don't know how to operate a gun from opening the box accidentally or by hands-on means and inadvertently shooting themselves or someone else. That being said i know tubular locks are fairly easy to hand pick as well and can also often be impressioned and turned with any random piece of card.
Those circular locks: I'm pretty sure I saw someone open one of those on a bike lock by using the top of a felt tipped pen. As long as it's the correct circumference just stuff it in the hole hard enough and it deforms to the right shape. Similar to that anyway.
@@Papperlapappmaul Wow, I just googled it and - after the ads - the suggested content is 2xLPL videos that are 12 and 17 minutes long. That is, prima facie, a ringing endorsement in itself!

I’d love to see you challenge some of those large recently popular safes for homes and personal use. They look cool and some even seem to be well made, but after watching your videos I’ve become suspicious of any lock… 😅
They are mostly just to keep little kids from accessing a firearm. Teenagers can/will get into anything that they set their minds too. Sadly. They have the internet where... they could watch this video about how to bypass Daddy's gun safe for instance...
Yes. And it's usually a simple "fix" of various weight springs on the pins of the lock to make the tool not work right. As it will overset some to get the stronger ones. Just not a common thing for cheap tube locks to have. Most vending machines that are newer can't be opened by this tool. Older ones can.
Yup! But they only exist long enough for someone to build a tool to get into it anyway. Seriously though, I believe the only thing you could do is make a new lock in a non-standard size. Make the lock bigger or smaller, and the tool won't fit anymore.
Okay fair enough -- A Master Locksmith using a specialized tool that he personally designed can pop the lock in two seconds. How likely is a child to have access to a circular lockpick? Or for that matter a burglar? And if a burglar broke into your house and stole your small gun safe (a truly ironic series of events) does it even matter how secure the lock is at that point?
Yea in this regard I like his videos more where he was able to open locks with a truly low skill/low effort attack, like with a branch or a lego figure or a can of red bull
Though I will say, LPL's usual bar for firearms storage is being able to foil a curious adolescent. I am not sure how many curious adolescents have tubular lock impressioning tools.
Please stop “picking” handgun safes. You’re missing the point. A gun safe is not intended to be a theft deterrent, it’s a curiosity deterrent so a child doesn’t pick up a loaded handgun. It doesn’t matter if it opens with a toothpick, they stop a child and in less-free states they fill a legal req. that’s the extent of their application.
@@johntuffy5721 legally, a backpack with a zip tie on the zipper is also considered a “locked container”. The bar for gun safes is about ankle high. Even without a specialty tool, picking one open is about as impressive as walking through the door at the supermarket. Calling it a safe is probably false advertising to begin with.

well there's 2 ways to think about this right? most kids aren't going to break into a gun box, but also they should respect guns either way
@@thelockpickingspoon9074 Why allow a danger when you can just avoid it?
Thats the order of operation how to deal with dangers at a workplace:
- dont allow the the danger to exist
if not possible
- avoid the danger, mark it, teach people about it
if not possible
- use appropriate PPE
So you just jumped the simplest and easiest option of completetly avoiding a unneccessary danger. BTW these are kids. Adults are already stupid... How many kids get blasted by their siblings every year?
Is there any other way to open the lock?
Slapping, Exploit a Fingerprint Weakness, ...?
I hope we can see some good locks soon. More fun to see you pick something open that isn't a 2 second open
At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he could open these locks with his nose
2 minute video, spends the first minute trashing the customer service, breaks in in seconds, and still wishes everyone a nice day. Thanks LPL
I love the gun safe fails.
Seems like more security theatre.
"security theater"
I really do believe this is the case.
Are there even 500 home invasion deaths period?
Now, if you were to make the argument on the basis of rights, that might be another thing.
But if you are making it on the basis of “the locking requirements prevent fewer accidental deaths than the number of deaths that they prevent the prevention of,
well, for that to make sense the # of deaths that guns in a home might possibly prevent, would have to be higher.
I’d love to see a review of a GOOD gun storage option.
I would too but honestly he would probably be better off putting those behind a paywall. I doubt he makes very much money from these videos that are under 5 minutes.
@@kingzach74 I'm sure he's doing just fine.
@@kingzach74 He has a billion views on his channel - short videos probably make more money - ppl are inclined to watch more of them, ads at beginning and end, and because they are short he is able to put them out more frequently.
I suspect we will see a review of a good one when he finds it!
v line makes ok fast open gun boxes
Don't use guns. If you think you need to, change country.
So Mr. LPL is starting to laugh at these locks. I want to see a video where he just starts cackling.
Going retro with the tubular locks, nice to see a little variety
This is the kind of locks that make Master claim their stuff is secure
It would be nice to have a long format video where LPL picks high security locks.. I wouldn’t mind a 15 min lock picking video for high security devices
LPL: 15 minutes?! Pffffft. Hold my beer for 2 secs...
@@ktang001 I’m sure there are plenty of locks that take him 10-15 mins to pick its just that he prefers to make short video formats. E.g. As far as i know, nobody has ever picked the Bowley lock model 543.. LPL didnt even bother to pick it in video 653.. one of the few locks he failed to pick.
@@jedidiah710 Somebody actually did! Picky McPick on youtube was able to pick it. No easy feat though. Nobody is doing that on a door. There was another person who did it as well but I can't remember the other guy's name though.
@@kingzach74 i just checked.. what he picked was the single hook bowley.. the bowley 543 is the double hook variant..
At least he couldn't slap this one open :D Low skill attack indeed!
Was the KEY & INSTRUCTIONS Inside the Box then ?? 😂😂😂
Didn’t look like it, the only thing I saw was the cheap metal cord they give you to anchor the box to something
You are The Man!!! . . . I love these videos. Will be purchasing that tool. Cool as funk.
As long as you've been doing this I haven't seen a lock yet that you couldn't pick 👍. Awesome 😎
never been early enough to see seconds in the posted date
Is there any gun safe you've liked? I've watched for years and I can't say I've seen many locks you really liked.
There was a Vaultek quick access safe that he seemed to like. Backup lock was disc detainer so more of a challenge to open than this one.
That tool is amazing
I would really like to see some solid secure locks featured instead of just the cheapo stuff we all ignore.
Love the channel BTW.
This is not a cheapo. Its price is $89.
@@jimstand Yeah, that's a cheapo.

For fellow car people that didn’t know LPL has a twin turbo 350z. We need some videos featuring it!
I love these lunch box videos.
So a curious teenager will leave the gun in the box until his friends get there. Knowing that he can grab it at any time to show them his cool new toy.
Only after he bought the tool on Covert Instruments.
so I'm 25th in the comments, took me 5 minutes to open this video, LPL is really something else if he can open locks faster than I can click on his videos
I absolutely have respect for you for calling out this company. 100% should be harder to open, especially if the box is intended to hold a firearm. In my opinion this could be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Honestly, the metal waterproof box in my grandpa's boat is probably a better alternative to this piss poor excuse of a box.
He does have the advantage of knowing how all these things work and having unlimited time with them in private to take them apart and do whatever, but he does always come up with some kind of solution.
Previously, in an Amazon return center...
Emp 1: What do we do with this locked gun safe with no key or manual?
Emp 2: I know just the guy!
Sounds like you got an open return. I hate when Amazon does that.
I have gone through so many videos looking for good gun safes, it seems like you defeat all of them with ease. Are there any that you actually recommend?
Fortunately it came to me and I had no plans on reading those instructions. Said every man every.
I remember back when I was a kid the widespread myth was that tubular locks were "unpickable"
I was wondering if LPL has or knows a site that lists top locks? I have seen some good ones over the years here (As well as the many bad :p) but it would be easier to look up a good site rather than rewatching 1500 old clips. Thanks for the entertainment :)
Well, you can skip all the 2-minutes-or-shorter videos, and you won't have many left
But lock availability varies a lot by region.
go to the lockpicking subreddit, look at the faq, whatever locks are orange belt or above are solid locks. those are ones lockpickers call hard.
Great Job. I like ur videos.
I gotta know, do things like this go into your collection after the video? Or just straight up into the garbage can?
I often wonder if anyone has tried to sue LPL for showing how bad their locks are.
LPL is telling the truth. You can't sue people for that.
@@CatsMeowPaw Truth Tellers are getting sued all the time.
@@CatsMeowPaw you can sue people for everything you want.
Suing a *lawyer* doesn't seem like the brightest idea considering a *lawyer* would know the *laws* better than you.
@@Eidolon1andOnly but their *laywers* would know the law just as well as this laywer.
Those circular locks: I'm pretty sure I saw someone open one of those on a bike lock by using the top of a felt tipped pen. As long as it's the correct circumference just stuff it in the hole hard enough and it deforms to the right shape. Similar to that anyway.
kewl. Good short work again.
Is there actually any locks that are secure enaugh that he would say that this is a very good lock? 😃
Yes. And he usually opens them too, it just takes longer.
Yes, the LPL certified gold standard for pick resistance is the Bowley Lock.
"enaugh"
@@Papperlapappmaul Wow, I just googled it and - after the ads - the suggested content is 2xLPL videos that are 12 and 17 minutes long. That is, prima facie, a ringing endorsement in itself!

Cool video, but I would love to hear if you any news on the “ENCLAVE” by Andrew Magill, one of the best lock engineering and probably a game changer. Thanx
If it needs a special tool, then it's not that bad.
LPL just didn't want to use some Barbaric brute force method, like prying the box open with a wooden stick. 😂
Those Delete and Enroll buttons on the inside seem quite easy to access and change the fingerprint without needing to open it
You are awesome thank you for sharing
Are there any gun safes that you do recommend?
love watching you pick the locks but i think in this situation the purpose of this box is not to hide it from a thief but rather from your kids. which i think should work realy well to prevent them from hurting themselfes. imho cheers
"This is FingerPickingLawyer and today I have a special finger to open this lock"
That lock pick is ... totally tubular, dude. 🤙🏼
Does a tubular lock exist that isn't susceptible to that type of impressioning tool?
I believe so, if you want to know for sure then I’d go back through some of his earlier videos
It also looks like that you can use a thin piece of metal to move (shim??) the locking hook / assembly.
Great video!! Now that you shamed both the manufacturer and Amazon, send it back for a full refund. 😮
Clearly they knew exactly who lock this was going to.
A Child would probably use a Screw Driver.
Yea in this regard I like his videos more where he was able to open locks with a truly low skill/low effort attack, like with a branch or a lego figure or a can of red bull
I read an Amazon review where it fell on the floor and popped open.
My guess if he threw it on a concrete floor (aka a basement or garage) it would have popped open or the sides would have bent enough to get the “gun.”
Those tools can be found quite cheaply on Amazon.
I usually watch CZcams videos at 1.5x. This has to be the first this year I watched at normal speed.
Though I will say, LPL's usual bar for firearms storage is being able to foil a curious adolescent. I am not sure how many curious adolescents have tubular lock impressioning tools.
Content is great as always but maybe have a look at video volume? The last few have been -really- quiet compared to most other channels.
Yes! This! I turn up my Bluetooth attached speaker to hear him, then blow my ears out when the next video plays.
LPL: robs a bank
LPL: puts money back
LPL: lets try it again prove it wasn’t a fluke……………
It looks like it is designed to be opened with either your index finger or your pinkie, depending on whether or not you are left handed.
"Getting this open is only slightly harder than using the key" cracked me up.
Please stop “picking” handgun safes. You’re missing the point. A gun safe is not intended to be a theft deterrent, it’s a curiosity deterrent so a child doesn’t pick up a loaded handgun. It doesn’t matter if it opens with a toothpick, they stop a child and in less-free states they fill a legal req. that’s the extent of their application.
gun safe maker found
@@johntuffy5721 legally, a backpack with a zip tie on the zipper is also considered a “locked container”. The bar for gun safes is about ankle high. Even without a specialty tool, picking one open is about as impressive as walking through the door at the supermarket. Calling it a safe is probably false advertising to begin with.
Super cool tool
Thank you soo much for sharing. I was ready to buy one but after watching your video, I am hesitating to pull the trigger. 😆 I would like to make sure I get a secure one for my handguns. What quick access gun safe do you use or any suggestions on what is good?

I find it Amazon is getting worse and worse when it comes to specialized products. I bought scrapbooking tools that was used with paper bits from previous owner from Amazon's own listing, not a third party one, that stated it is new. I've seen product reviews of other non-related products sold and shipped by amazon having similar issues.
