During the British Raj, an Indian could promote to the position of a head clerk in a company. All officers were imported from the UK. Army, police and judiciary was dominated by the British. Manufacturing in India was discouraged with taxes. You can see the effect of this on Tata Steel, which almost went under, but was saved by WWI and WWII, which increased the demand of steel.

Thats tru even today. The top 5% who are upper castes rule over the remaining 95% lower castes. This is a class war, not the war between the British Society and Indian Society.

With no British Rule, India would have been a conglomeration 550+ Pincely States erring with each other day in and day out. Also British were mainly responsible for the decline of Islamic empire in India. Other wise India could have been another Bangladesh or Pakistan. Thanks to the British, the casteism is some what rooted out of the Indian Society.

@@kamandalamjalam1541 Marathas were responsible for the decline of Mughals. Casteism has become entrenched with reservations & caste politics. Agree about the accession of princely states, but it was not just the British that helped, Sardar Patel & like-minded patriots were responsible too.

Pakistan and Bangladesh were also ruled by the British. It was not the British who made modern India; it was we Indians who did it.

@@piyushmaji2208 Who built Railways? Who brought Irrigation System and canals to India? Who built roadways? For your kind information, when Sir Arthur Cotton was building Anacut on Godavari River with the funds secured fighting with British Victorian Govt, what did the Local people do?? The Brahmins and Kshatriyas refused to touch the tools and equipment touched by SC/STs. To solve this problem, Sir Arthur Cotton arranged two shifts, one shift for Upper castes in the morning. And then the Lower Untouchables come and use the tools. And then in the evening the tools were cleaned with Haldi by the evening before the next shift for Upper castes in the morning.

@@piyushmaji2208 You are absolutely wrong. The Heads of the 550+ Princely States refused to pass the benefits of modernization to the common man, Most of the Wealth was retained by their families and other upper castes. To some extent, Nizam of Hyderabad helped the poor by implementing many Technological advancements brought by the British.

@@kamandalamjalam1541 It is not accurate to justify British rule by citing a random event. One should consider the broader historical context, including the British establishment of a rail network and other infrastructure to exploit India. For a more comprehensive understanding, one can refer to resources such as the Britannica article on the British Raj. You can also search for it on Google.
