  • This is how I replace the alternator on 02-04 Acura RSX's. The 05-06 model may be the same but I can't verify.
    Don't attempt any repair if you are not sure, you can always bring to a professional.

    OMFG who is the $#%#$%$# who designed the location of the alternator ! God I wish I could get my hand on him ! certainly someone who never worked on a car in his effing life ! took like 2 hours to remove the bumper and the light and the alternator top screw is probably torqued to 200lb.ft ! Thanks for the video btw.

      Glad it helped. I have worked on cars where the alternator was roughly a 15-20 min swap. This one is not the case, but, I did find the way to do it with what I believe was the most efficient without having to dismantle a ton including not messing with P/S lines and that mess etc.

      @@LMEngineering How did you remove the bottom 2 screws of the alternator ? did you raise the car and use a long reach ratchet from the bottom ? btw there is really no need to remove the tension wheel, just put a ratchet on it, turn clock wise, this will loosen the tension of the belt which will help you slide the belt off the alternator.

    • @LMEngineering
      @LMEngineering  Před 5 lety +2

      For the two bottom ones I use a mix of flexible ratchet adapters and a flex head ratchet. For the tensioner pulley, I wanted it out of the way completely so I opt to remove it since it's only one nut and bolt. This also let's me check the bearing by hand as well so I can replace it while it's out if need be. Doing it this way opens up that area a little more for the alt to move/spin and or tools to get in there to help assist. Takes 10 secs to remove and reinstall so why not.

      @@LMEngineering Ah! thank you, need to get me them flexible ratchets ! , there is a friggin pipe in front of the right bottom bolt that makes it extremely hard to unscrew the bolt !

      @@simpledate no prob. There is never such a thing as having too many ratchets, extensions, or sockets. They'll always come in handy for "fun" jobs like this one haha

    Replaced alternator on my rsx before and didn't have to do half the things this guy did. Didn't take that's long, just have to move the power steering pump out of the way.

    • @LMEngineering
      @LMEngineering  Před 2 lety +1

      It took a combination of hand tools and extensions/wobbles

    Just did this job today, the best method is to first remove the belt, then the power steering pump, followed by the belt tensioner assembly and then from there the alternator pops right out without needing to remove the motor mount, headlight, or bumper.

    • @LMEngineering
      @LMEngineering  Před 3 lety +1

      Might have been the tool and or extensions/adapters at the time. I remember it being very tight doing this job.

      Aftermarket alternators will do that

    • @FrgottenFrshness
      @FrgottenFrshness Před 4 lety

      You'll either need to change it with a different brand or OEM brand which is Mitsubishi or another one that I forgot or test the battery with a voltmeter or just ignore the light

    • @LMEngineering
      @LMEngineering  Před 4 lety

      It's not the fact of it being aftermarket but rather some are rebuilt poorly.
      Example, in this case I had received 2-3 aftermarket units from the same parts store, only the last one I received was rebuilt properly.

      All good. See if you can get a copy of an official manual in case there is something you're missing or something I might not have covered unique to the version you have. Base and Type S may differ for example. Good luck and hopefully you have some success soon
