in this video, i’m going to be going through all the songs i’ve started but haven’t been able to finish over the past year. working through writer’s block can be so frustrating and i think it’s in these times that we really need to just keep going because it takes a hundred bad songs to get to the good stuff.
i want to be transparent with you all and show that songwriting isn’t always easy and that i struggle with it as much as the next person lol. let me know if you want more songwriting content and also let me know which songs i should try to finish writing haha.

That 2am recording was exactly me; starts trying to whisper-sing, voice doesn’t work, clears throat 😂 Recording song ideas at night when everyone else is asleep and I’m scared of waking someone up, then when i go back to it in the daytime i have to try to figure out what the heck it was really meant to sound like 😔
“Untitled” is the burned out gifted kid anthem. I loved it and its very relatable
Also, last week I put on your song writing videos and wrote some of my own songs at the same time and it worked well
These video types is my favorite Nena!! I'm also writing songs but also finding melodies is sooooooo hard 💜 and the fact that the video is 20:10 minutes long,It screams speak now😁

I'm amazed by it, it’s so touchy on feelings and personally relatable.
And i agree that the time goes by and it feels like i'm still a child…feeling lost in the memories which we once captured, so it never goes away.

Great video Nena. Some great songs you have started. I am a songwriter too and I also often start many before I eventually get one I finish, this block will pass eventually.
As a writer, I can definitely relate to writer's block and the frustration of putting down a half-finished piece & never getting back to it...we can get through this together Nena I have faith in you!! From what I've seen, you're a great writer and have a talent for telling a story & conveying so many emotions through song lyrics. When I hear your songs, I feel like I know you! My favs were "happy first", "life interrupted", and "let it be messy" - I also loved the song idea about the seasons and I think you should give it a go! And of course, I related very much to songs like "glass half-empty" and the one about people cancelling on you...I felt that in my BONES ugh. Those two were very much sad girl hour songs aha :')

hey nena.... new merch is out on taylor's store. It's purple themed and it might be a speak now easter egg. there's a paper activity package which contains a word search and crossword puzzles. I think the word search and crossward puzzles have some easter eggs such as song titles, words that hint to lyrics. Loved this vid 💖😃
I've been writing songs, lately. I usually have a title before I write the song and sometimes I'll have a line and part of the line ends up being the title. I dont play guitar but i want to get one for my birthday. I've written 13 songs and I wrote 12 of them this year. The one that I'm the most proud of that I've written is called "I Thought You Were Mine" and it's about a guy who tells his girlfriend that he would always love her and would never leave her lonely, but he does leave her and so the girl writes a song about it and he ends up hearing it on the radio and goes to apologize to her but it's too late. It's a story I made up.

Thank you for making this video when you are so busy. I love this video because I'm also going through writers block... I loved the third song about being lost in your 20s. Picking is so hard btw, it's my dream to be able to pick and play as smoothly as you. I'd love a video on picking and how to practice and how long it took you to be able to do that.

tbh i love your songwriting videos and i think actively talking about subjects such as writing blocks is really important for a community since everyone who writes songs will experience it someday and somehow, love that you're doing that
Writer’s blocks are definitely a real thing. I experience them myself and have to remind myself that there’s a time for output, and a time for input. Usually when I’m having trouble with the ‘output’ I’ll really focus on taking a break and ‘input’. Read books, watch films, listen to other songs, take inspiration from the art of other people in order to recharge my own batteries. I don’t know if that makes sense. It’s incredible to hear some of your original works though! You should honestly finish them all. They’d be a wonderfully cohesive album (even if you never officially released it as an album!). They’re beautiful! If you want to finish them, you will, as long as the intention is out there. Just give yourself the time for the rest of the song to come together. I always say that if I’m struggling it’s also just not the right time for it to be ‘created’! Thank you so much for sharing this, Nena!

Ah, you’ve seen it, I’m not surprised you love it, it is about songwriting. Have you seen the Swell Season? It’s their tour documentary but the film captures their relationship imploding too, they were extremely brave to allow it to be released but perhaps they didn’t have a say.

Hi Nena, my name is Shauna Bloom and I love music all the time also I’m doing guitar lessons over between 5 or 6 years now. Also when can you do more guitar tutorials would you mind to do some Lady Gaga’s songs like Shallow, Always remember us this way, I’ll never love again and Million reasons. And Ed Sheeran’s songs like Photograph, Thinking out loud, castle on the hill, Shape of you, Perfect, Galway girl, Happier, How would you feel, Supermarket Flowers. Also could you do some Adele songs like Hello, When we were young, Million years ago and set fire to the rain. Also make sure you have everything the same way as the singers like same chords, same strumming patterns and same fingerpicking patterns please thanks, also can you please find out how many times do I strum each chords for all sections of the songs and how many times do I fingerpicking patterns to the songs too.
