- Don't watch, just listen! Emperata Overture by Claude T. Smith!
-----------------------------
Emperata Overture, written in 1964, is one of Smith's most popular works. Composed in ABA form, Emperata Overture is developed from a motive presented in the opening fanfare by the trumpets and trombones. After a contrasting middle section, the principle theme is heard in a fugue which leads to a brilliant conclusion. (Babecka)

Painful Paper Towels This wasn’t written in 1802 lol!
@@andymilstenmusic8520 lol
5th Trombone? LUXURY! I had to play 13th sackbutt back in 1589 and if I missed a note the king would chop the queen's head off.
@@jonathanmcdaniel1040 thats nothing. I had to play my uncles arse and if one note was out of tune the roman emperor would murder 750,00 people
😂
I played this in high school band many times in the early 80's and absolutely love this song. I played alto sax. Thanks to my band teacher, Mr. Gilliland for such great music choices over my three years under him.
He was my high school band director.. love all his arrangements!
I played this song (first clarinet, first chair) at the Georgia State Music Festival, when I was a junior in high school. Some of the best band members in the entire state attended, and this was our performance - in front of a couple thousand people in this amazing theater. I'll never forget this song!
I remember this so well. I was lead trumpet when we took this song to state contest in eighth grade. A truly great song to play. Thanks for the memories!!
I played this in both elementary school and high school bands. Trombone section.
Played in 8th grade too 3rd cornet
I played this as I was exiting the womb. I've got all of you beat.
I was 3rd trumpet for this as a freshman in high school, fall 07. Still remember my part too lol. Man, how time flies. I miss being in band so much.
Played this my junior year of high school. I had just switched over from trumpet to French horn my junior year. I really like that French horn part.
I remember absolutely KILLING that tuba solo at our district contest back in 2014! such great memories! I miss band so much!
First chair trombone, Washington Irving Intermediate, Springfield, VA 7th & 8th grade, 1984/85. Played a Smith piece for Festival each year. Graded on a scale of 3 to 1, 1 being the best. We got straight 1's every festival playing Grade 5/6 music (what most HS play). It's been almost 40 years and I can still hum every part. Thank you Mr. Ben Pasquale. You were an AMAZING band teacher.
My band is playing this and because of the school closing down, we have to record twelve consecutive measures by the end of the week. Keep in mind, we only just recently started it, so I’m listening to this so that I at least know what I’m doing somewhat
We were but weeks from our concert when all was cancelled; I can only hope this piece is revisited next year for us. Hope y'all end up playing this one.
I moved around a lot and it seemed I played this in each band! So even 40 years later it is one of my favorites. Imagine how excited I was when both my sons got to play it in high school!
Wow great memories of high school band 1985.
This is the song that gets me going early in the wee hours of the morning, through rain, snow and sleet, to make the donuts.
We played this back in 78 in for band competition it was awesome
Played this back in like 2002, I was a Junior in HS. Amazing piece still :)
A great piece.
0:47 to me sounds like a ringtone or something you might get stuck in your head
This piece is very catchy! It’s been stuck in my head for about 8 years.
I played this in 7th grade back in, wait for it, 1984 and I can still hum every part.
Playing this is high school 2019
1973 Lincoln High School Orchestra.....French Horn solo is the whaaaat😉
@@mablegray4141 don't forget the tuba solo!

Playing this piece now. I got the tuba solo at 4:53, and it's such a fun piece overall to play
I am playing this now. 1st chair tuba, this will be interesting to say the least!
at 4:30, how the chord resolves is strikingly satisfying
Man I remember playing this in band. Good times! Shout out to my band director of CHS
My band played this as a competition piece
Always loved his compositions. Thanks for posting.
