Coach Nick breaks down this thrilling Game 4 overtime epic, where the Thunder refuse to double the post and the Grizzlies are making them pay for it. Perkins continues to hurt OKC while KD is getting worn out having to guard Gasol on some possessions, and create offense for everybody.
I can't argue with this.
8:04 was the nicest thing i heard coach nick say to russell westbrook.
Thanks!!
z bo + gasol is unstoppable now. 2 big men with good post up game...
i dont see any of the remaining 7 teams have an answer to that
great analysis coach
Looking sharp Coach Nick!
Double from the weakside -that way you don't give up a shot 1 pass away
going way way back going way way way way back!
Why not?
This round the pacers and grizzlies jave an advantage amd they r thought to be underdog teams. Cuz usually
he's good one on one. There just aren't a lot of guys that can guard Gasol and Zebo in the post. He challenges shots well, they're just too good.
He'd have to improve his offensive skills, which is bloody unlikely a this point in his career. But his rebounding is also very poor at this point. Not much keeping him in the league
no he is the most consistent ref in terms of bad calls
yeah u r right but i still think that guy is a good defender with his long armes and his athletic
that's a smoove move.
I said immediately after Russ's injury that Thunder is gonna lose in second round because without Russ they are not going anywhere... Not surprised at all. Despite lack of chemistry between Russ and Durant or numerous mistakes Russ makes, he's still a superstar point guard who can create his own offense and is a fearless on-ball defender.
Ikr coach
Tabo was in at the end to guard Mike Colney. Not tony allen. Reggie was on him.
If you couldn't tell by the tentativeness, I think they are going against what Brooke's wants when they double in the post
Lol, coach nick finally doesn't hate on westbrook
Yes
Fisher for the win!
This is definitely one of your best breakdowns Coach. I thought KD made some really nice passes in this game too, his game has really come along these last couple years, I feel like he's seen LBJ's all-round game, and wants that total domination too.
Memphis is underrated in my opinion
I don't think we'll be hearing about westbrook hurting the Thunder anymore.
and they could use sefolosha to help in the post on double teams
HA - perhaps this is true! I will quote this on twitter.
I taught Perkins all he knows
I have been saying Scott brooks isn't cut out for being a head coach for three years. It isn't hard to see.
yes
if they double the post, marc and zbo(unlikely) will kick it out, they need their 3pt shooters or shooters to make shots. So yes.
Damn memphis post up
Thanks Derek Fisher
hi coach
have you watch tonight SAS vs GSW?
it's like Greg Pop finally finds a way to contain both curry and thompson at the same time with green guarding curry with the ball
I'm honestly starting believe that OKC's best shot at coming back in this series is if Kevin Durant takes the ball up and shoots a 28 footer every single time. They can't get anything going offensively.
Someone send this video to Scott Brooks
If they double the post then they would have no room to work and would kick it back out allowing players such as prince and allen wide open perimeter shots where they are not as effective as the Memphis big men
coach could you perhaps breakdown the recent couple spurs-warriors games? Seems like Popovich has figured out a way to slow down both Curry and Thompson. In fact they've been rather quiet after the first two games. Is it just about throwing Green and Leonard at them? Or is it something else? Feels like...if not for the OT clunker in G4, the spurs would've advanced already.
no they don't.
Sooo... Joe Crawford spilling the beans on those calls in 5 yrs?
So I kinda agree with you about conley's off hand and I kinda don't. Sometimes he hits great shots and sometimes he looks ridiculous with his right. But just to stir the pot, one of the commentators during the game said something to the effect of, "conely has one of the best off hands in the game, he finishes with his right as much as his left in the paint". Just trying thought I'd play devil's advocate a little bit.
Any ref can tell you. One hand on the body: fine. Two hands: foul.
I saw the Post-Game Show and someone thought up a lineup. I was also thinking about one:
Jackson, Westbrook, Durant, Ibaka, Collison Or Westbrook, Martin, Durant, Ibaka, Collison.
Or what the could do is trade a center with some compensation for another centre, Javale McGee? Or should they stay with the roster?
No. He's just not the same player without KG in his ear.
Of course there is sacrifice when you double. But that's just playing the odds, the easiest way to score 2 points is drive into the paint and do a layup or jumper (it's closer to net, can draw foul), Memphis has big men who are simply too good in the paint, imagine those guys' scoring potential is 90%.
Meanwhile Memphis also has guys whose scoring is only say 60% mid-range. Then you double the 90% guy (Marc), and leave the 60% open and let him take the shot. Not much else you can do D.
better of course... if gay is there, he would've taken great numbers of possessions from z-bo, gasol, and conley... it will hamper the production of these guys having him on the team... and having z-bo and gasol doing the scoring is more effective anyway...
Coach, do you think OKC should start Kevin Martin instead of Sefolosha? Should Hollins put the Grindfather on Durant or Tayshaun Prince? And do you think Scott Brooks can find a way to become a great coach in light of being exposed by Westbrook's injury? I see him becoming a good coach like Spoelstra after the Heat lost in the Finals.
God fire Brooks. He clearly doesn't make adjustments....I.E. their last two playoff runs.
Btw memphis is putting on a clinic cuz there doing wat they do best which is resulting in success
Collison got harassed by the ref again, Z-bo has been getting alot of phantom calls in playing against him. I wonder what the NBA was up to
You got it right in the description but thumbnail says it's game 5
i agree, these are pretty soft foul calls, but i think on a 5th foul collison hit zbos hand and not the ball,it kinda hard to see from this angle.
OKC has a better winning percentage when Westbrook takes more shots than Durant.
Not just in this postseason, mind you.
lol just because theirs a little contact does not mean its a foul its basketball not golf
Coach Nick, are you sure putting Durant on Z-Bo is a better idea than putting Ibaka on him? Because I get the feeling that Durant would get eaten alive by Z-Bo in the post. If he's too strong for Collison/Ibaka, imagine if Durant was defending him.
I guess Durant's lenght would bother Randolph's face-up game, but I can't say the same for his post game.
Yup, definitely. My favorite one is the Marcus Camby foul on Steve Nash when they were 15 feet away from each other. Look it up on CZcams, it's a must watch for laughs.
Coach Sandusky is the greatest coach ever dont you call him terrible
Wouldn't having the other bigman on the ft line make it so much more dangerous? He could cut, shoot or make a pass to the weak side...
Forcing? That's kind of how basketball works. He'd have to do that healthy ankle or not.
c'mon... he's not arguing Westbrook is a bad player... he is extremely talented, explosive, great player that is... but he's basically saying he doesn't like westbrook being a PG... it's pretty clear right from the very 1st time he made an OKC breakdown...
after rewatching the game, i feel their was some B.S. because the thunder was leading
reggie perfectly defended gets the foul
KD poking the ball out of marc gasol gets the foul
collison obviously
do you even remotely think LAC would give up CP3 for a westbrook?
Yes - that's what I said at the end
Coach - I've heard commentators say that you can use a forearm and a hand to defend in the post, but putting both hands on a post player is pretty much an automatic foul. That's what it looks like Collison is doing -- defending with his hands -- so he picks up stupid little fouls.
Is there any merit to that?
and say what you want about russ and his issues there offense is even worse without him...even with all the mistakes he makes and he would play good D on conley i hope
Will Scott Brooks get fired after this season, or did the Westbrook injury give them an excuse to keep him around? His rotations seem ridiculous..
They should waive Perkins and sign Scalabrine, his high fiving skillls are better than no skills
No one can do it by themselves. It's a fact. Kevin durant is playing amazing. Do you know who's guarding durant? Tony Allen and tayshaun prince are u kidding me? And he's still putting up those numbers? I blame Scott Brooks, IMO I would rather have Ginny than Brooks.......
I laughed so hard at you commentating on Perkins 😂
back here 1 year later
+Qingyang Gan lol
LOL
dont underestimate Del Negro please
Coach,Memphis lacks of outside shooter , .Does this factor effect Memphis in their playoff series??
good recovery defensive player but can't do it 1 on 1.
For all the crap that you give westbrook, you can't deny that the thunder miss him badly. Maybe if harden was still around this series would be more in the thunders control.
Ever heard of the Ewing theory?
Collison is the only player i like from OKC and seeing him get fouled out as stupidly like this live even though I was rooting for Memphis made me cringe.
No - he was very inefficient, and they need the extra defensive player in Prince
4-0 OKC.
but that guy is the greatest Westbrook hater ever.
2013-14 season. If they don't learn nothing the last two years that this team cannot win a title. (Change it up)... Duh...
perkins sucks so bad smh. he needs to work this offseason on his post moves and hitting mid range open shots. its really hurting the thunder
Joey Crawford involved in controversial calls? Well, I never...
Under what circumstance would Minnesota give up Pekovic?
I was watching this game and I was like WTF you doing Marc, Leave Perkins open to shoot that ugly shot...
Coach, if OKC did double the post, would that make Gasol/Z-Bo, ineffective? What can they do now?
But the Grizzlies are not a good perimeter scorer. Prince and Allen are not a perimeter threat. Sure they still need defense up front but I think Martin is enough to guard guys who are not good shooters.. At this point they'd rather have a guy who can create his own shot and score.
JOEY CRAWFORD
NO WONDER
you should be a coach
Stealing the ball and defending the ball isn't exactly the same thing.
coach nick missing westbrook?
I feel bad for KD.
i think gay was top 15 in steals last year
hey coach what would make okc think perkins is good enough to warrent playing him significant minutes?
They'll be playing the Pacers.
smoove army watching bballbreakdown? xD
You know coach, I'd like to see you coaching in the NBA. You seem like you know what you talk about and I'd be surprised if you don't turn out successful as one. I love your videos and I look forward to one everyday! Keep it up!!
joey crawford...
Rudy Gay's trade makes Memphis Grizzlies better or worse?
Too much inside domination...maybe with westbrook they go to 7 gms but I think they still lose...memphis is too beefy down low and with Mike Conley and Tony Allen they just have too much D for okc
Perkins and Brooks should be waived.
great breakdown coach can't believe they aren't double teaming Z-bo and Gasol in the post anyone with a bit of basketball knowledge would realize that!
If they would've just watched my breakdown from the 1st round against the CLippers!
