  • Make your own battery using copper coins, vinegar, foil and cardboard. I had enough energy to power an LED with mine and also a TV remote! Really simple science project and easy to do yourself.

    This actually makes sense. Overcharged metal ions separated by electrolytic solution with undercharged metal on the other side. Amazing

    • @veganchocolatemousse
      @veganchocolatemousse Před 3 lety +1

      what do you mean by undercharged metal? the aluminum? do you think one could use other metals like lead to still make a battery like this?

    • @DIOBrando-ur5we
      @DIOBrando-ur5we Před 3 lety +14

      @@veganchocolatemousse basically if you look in the periodic table of elements,youll see metals in different groups. Metals like to lose their valence electrons which is their outermost electrons to form cations. And generally metals at the bottom of a group lose their electrons more easily. Also as you go from group to group the metals lose their electrons less easily. Which is why group one metals react explosively with pretty much anything. Sodium and potassium literally explode in water. Go figure. For example when silver and zinc are used. Silver is in group 11 and zinc is in group 12. Silver is more likely to lose an electron than zinc. And thats exactly what happens.

    Pretty cool, Dave! By the way, for those who didn't know, the word *battery* can be used to describe *an array of similar things* , which can be used for example to describe a group of similar artillery/cannons. After watching this video everyone can draw the conclusion that a battery is *an array of similar stacked cells* , but a lot of the batteries today are actually single cells instead.

    • @darrylkinslow5613

    How long will it last? Also a question: suppose you tape it somehow so good that vinegar won't be able to flow out of the battery - does this mean that this battery will never ever run out of power?

    • @memespoon134

      nah the vinegar will dry out eventually or corrode the metal enough to make it not conductive.
      vinegar is chemically known as acetic acid, it still is one of the weakest acids, but it still can corrode things over a long period of time.

    • @shadowxxe
      @shadowxxe Před 2 lety +3

      infinite power generation is not possible. eventually the copper will corrode or be depleted and the batter will not produce as much voltage as it used to.

      I'm curious the economy of power production versus electricity production methods. Like if someone wants to scrap enough and aluminum essentially getting the items for low to no-cost, could One supplement their power consumption with these on-site devices?

    For some reason, our battery is only getting 2 volts and we got 5 volts just once in random. Our LED 1.2 volt led is not lighting up either although we have enough volts in the battery. We learned that it might be because of current, but how do we fix that? Thanks
