    I AM ATHLETE | Season 3: Episode 20
Brandon Marshall, Chad Johnson and Omar Kelly welcome former head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores. Tune in as they discuss his recent firing, lawsuit against the NFL and what the NFL and ownership needs to do to improve the status of minority leadership hires.
The show opens up with the cast all giving their best shot at defining the "Patriots Way" and how the organization has been able to be so successful over the years. After spending time as an assistant coach with the Patriots, Brian Flores shares that he's learned alot under Bill Belichick but they both still take a different approach to coaching. The conversation shifts to Brian's recent firing after 3 seasons with Miami and how it came as a surprise to most of the world after he started the season off at 1-7 but ended it with a 9-8 record. Flores shares that he believes his firing was racially driven and how his open lawsuit against the NFL will help minority coaches in the future. Flores also shares his thoughts on ways that the NFL can implement changes right away that can benefit coaches in similar situations in the future.
Brandon wraps the episode up by asking Brian, who is the X and who is the Z. As Brandon and Chad battle it out, Omar shares his thoughts to help move the conversation along. Omar shares that they both are talented receivers in their own ways but he has to go with Chad as the X.

The thing that strikes as with an obvious cover up about Brian Flores lawsuit is the silence by Chris Grier . Why has Chris Grier remained silent ? I love that they brought him here...but they didn't give him the platform, too many interjections, asking repeatative questions, trying to be too politically, the issue is that there are no PLAYERS, past or present, that are stepping up. They take the check, they don't care who coaching. This conversation felt muzzled, in a sense that they didn't dive, they kept saying black coaches get "bad jobs", he made a bad job into a good job, a job that people would love to have, there needs to be players taking a stand against the nfl, against the owners, "Massa" needs his "players" to revolt in order to get them to hear them, if the black players want black coaches, stand the fuck up, and say it, brandon said if the owners want to "reach" brandon get someone to speak to them, they don't care because he is "reached" by the pay check, they put so much emphasis on how the check changes their family's life for decades, so that means the money is more important then standing on what is right or wrong.

@@travondavis8289 i agree. It’s hard to do. We all see what happened to Colin. Unfortunately in the NFL, unlike the NBA or MLB, the owners have all the power. There isn’t a big enough star that has the ability to make change individually, except for maybe Brady. The players would definitely have to collectively revolt but their window is so small. The average nfl career is only about 3-5 years. They don’t want to take the risk to lose that money.

It is a government meant for the rich to lead the poor. Which it does. But I think Flores is acting honorably throughout this duration, cause A. he is black and knows his options are not the same as non black head coach. It looks like he made the best of the situation, hoping that the GM and Owner would appreciate what he has done, not done, and what he created. IMO he gave the dolphins an identity that we have not had in decades. He gave us something to look forward to, its called progress. He has done it with little help and no major signings or trades. He was un-rewarded from the Dolphins but he is rewarded by the people watching his progress in the NFL. I am shocked he got a job at all again in the NFL so quickly. But the STEELERS are all about the change, they acknowledge the problem, they have helped this problem for decades, they appreciate a person like Flores acknowledging the problem. It seems like Omar is blaming the coach, not tanking and getting fired

Omar on his Twitter page has said multiple times that Flores disrespected him. He said nobody talks to him like that, speaking of how Flores spoke to him as coach of the dolphins. I'd like to know how Flores disrespected Omar. He's never given any details. Omar seems to be fine with Flores in this interview. Laughing at his jokes.

Watching this and other stuff out there, how can anyone question his credibility to be a head coach and a leader of men? Since all of this blew up, I've watched every video I could find on him, and it's clear he has what it takes. It's time to hold the NFL, and more importantly, the Dolphins accountable

I am so glad Brian Flores is now part of the Steelers organization. I knew he was a good coach but after really listening to him for the first time, I respect him more as a man. Proud to be a life long Steelers fan and would run through a wall for Mike Tomlin and now Brian Flores.
