Screen Printing Bright Colors On Black T-shirts / How to Print A Good Underbase

  • Screen printing bright colors on black t-shirt is one of the most difficult part of screen printing. The reason is because of the registration You need to do. You have to make sure that the white does not show When you print the ther color on top.
    In this video I will explain how to choke your design starting in Photoshop and the number of pixels I use.
    What is an underbase? An underbase (or underlay) is a layer of high-opacity ink (usually white) that is printed on the garment and flash-cured before the other colors are printed. It's a similar concept to painting a base coat of primer under your main paint color.

    Thanks for the vid bro. One other thing I think is worth mentioning. you are using an aluminum platten. The wooden platten's warp over time and make color registration more difficult. The colors May line-up in some areas and then not in others. Really frustrating. All you screen printers out there who are just starting out, it is worth getting the aluminum platens for color registration accuracy and of course they will last feasibly forever.

    Ordering that tape immediately - what a labor-saver!! Your videos are always great and inspiring, thanks for that. Have you ever done a video about how you handle art fees with clients? If so please share. We are getting off the ground and have struggled with how much “free” to give as a means to build the customer base.

      Thank you. What I use to do and still doing is have some tote bags in your shop so when you do a job for a client surprised them with a tote with the design you just printed for them. Makes a big impact and the cost is very low. Clients really appreciate little things like that.

    I’m a beginner! I worked with free screens (not in a press) for a few projects to get the basics over the years. Now I have a five color press.
    I have more tools than knowledge at this point and I have no idea how I got here! But we are rolling forward by the seat of our pants and have produced team t-shirts of silver on a black shirt yesterday. I wish I had watched this video BEFORE I had started. The shirts came out beautifully though, and just in time for our event. The next run though, it’s gonna be gorgeous!
    I’m following now and will study all the videos you have. I come equipped with an artistic hubby and endless options for either vinyl cut outs or photosensitive emulsion, and a heathy dose of ‘hey let’s try this’!
    I can’t wait to see your other videos and gather the courage and wisdom to try new things.

    Great video, but I have a few observations.when you say 3 pixels in Photoshop, what resolution are you using (this makes a difference)? I always use 300 dpi resolution when using Photoshop. The second observation, I appreciate you telling us what inks you used, but you failed to mention the screen mesh size (also important), it would be nice when people post videos on CZcams about screen printing techniques, you include all the variable information, like the screen mesh size.
    Please don't misunderstand my comment, I think you make great videos, and I am a BIG fan, I just think it would be more helpful to include the specific details I mentioned Thanks

      @tainoink  Před 4 lety +4

      Thank you Jon. I appreciate the comment. I will start mentioning a bit more information. Yes. I always use 300dpi and that is why I contract 3 pixels. That is true. It will make a difference. The other thing I should have mention was the screen mesh count. i used a 110 for white, 160 for gold and navy, 230 for the light blue. Thank you for the comment Jon.

    • @kevmfish1995

    • @tainoink
      @tainoink  Před 4 lety +2

      The reason I use 230 is to try to layer up as less ink as possible. I've could've gone with a 160 mesh count but at that moment I had the 230 mesh count available.

    Clear transfer tape comes in 16 or wider inches at the place where you get vinyl tape. You want the stickiest tape you can get. The thinner your registration marks the better and the center line on the platen should be thin also. It's easier to set up and I put tape where the reg marks will be on the center line to reg multi color jobs.

My question is, does pushing leave a better print than pulling or it doesn't make much difference to you? Also, what squeegee durometer do you use for the 110 screen and for the 160 or do you use the same durometer for both screen sizes? Thanks in advance.

      How are you doing Nabeel. Sorry for the delay. The type of printer I use for my positives is the Artisan 1430 Epson printer. I will have to say that is the one of the best printers out there to print positives.

    Well that was a waste of 10 minutes of my life! You didn’t do anything to teach how to print a good underbase!

      Well for my understanding printing a good underbase is how well you ckoke your underbase.
