    An anti-inflammatory agent, that usually treats mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis and maintain improvement of its symptoms. It is an aminosalicylate.
    It works by stopping the body from producing a certain substance that may cause inflammation.
    It may be also used in Crohn's disease after surgical resection of the affected bowel.
    (Types of medicine)
    • delayed-release: Releases the medication in the intestine where its effects are needed.
    • extended-release: Releases the medication throughout the digestive system. Long acting.
    (Side effects)
    • muscle or joint pain, aching, tightness or stiffness
    • nausea, vomiting
    • heartburn, burping
    • constipation, gas
    • dry mouth
    • itching
    • dizziness
    • sweating
    • acne
    • hair loss

    I have ulcerative colitis.i have to take mesalamine (mesacol) everyday.is it safe to take in breastfeeding?
