These practices are used in a more utilitarian way when it comes to training new soldiers for any military. Food and sleep deprivation, forced repetition of tasks and phrases, excessive exercise to the point of muscle failure and vomiting, cutting all contact from the outside world and loved ones etc.

It's about breaking point, the point the mind has a psychotic break and lose all sense of reality. It's about which method works best and is fastest. It's about how to weaponize and utilize what they have learned on all the people in a room, in a building, in a village, a town, city etc. It's about how to induce psychosis en masse as a weapon.

Similar experiments were carried out in the UK also, though not as documented as those in the US, I believe several western nations were engaged in brainwash experiments.
