This is our first review of the new 70cc chainsaw from Stihl - MS 462. It is a opponent to the also new, Husky 572XP. This is a first initial test and we have tested the chainsaw for about 20 refuels.
It certainly is going to be interesting to see how these new chainsaws is taken by the market. MS 462 has alot of rage and power, despite that id weighs only 600 grams more than 60cc Stihl MS 361. Feel free to leave a comment either here or on www.forestry.com or skogsforum.se

A dull chain for use during a review? Why? One would think you would want the saw in tip-top shape to show it off. Either way, the 462 is a beast of a machine-with a sharp chain.

I'm impressed by the 462! With 6kg, that saw has the same weight as my 560xp with 60cc and it's 600 gramm's lighter than the new 572xp, with slightly more displacement (72,2cc) and power in comparison to the husqvarna. If the saw holds up well it will be a game changer!

Whoever was felling them trees. Hats off to you sir. You can just tell when someone knows that their doing.
One question. I’ve always been told to back cut at an angle after you do your face cut to make sure the tree falls in the direction you want. But I see here y’all back cut straight. If the tree is completely straight I’d understand doing it that way. Tips are welcome!
    Cheers. Safe sawin!

I like stihl and husqvarna equally but I do think its kinda ironic that stihl has copied husky in the way of air injection and spring mounted anti vibe and it even revs more like a husky now, all of which is a good thing though. I also wonder about the power specs this new 462 claims it has more power then before though the 4.4 kw is the same spec as the 461

    • @samuelwild4239
      @samuelwild4239 Před 6 lety

I think no matter what manufacturer you chose these days the emphasis on design looks to be getting more power from smaller engines so they can be made lighter and less fatiguing to handle. All petrol powered machines are being mounted on springs these days - it seems the best way to reduce vibration factors without the AV elements deteriorating too quickly.

I'd like to ad that times through logs can show up inconsistencies in times. E.g. I've seen a stihl 462 beat a stihl 500i through a log on utube
Which just shouldn't happen.the person was using same chain and bar on each saw. So what I'm saying is you obviously get different densities in wood along a log. You would have to do quite a few cuts to get an average time.

Durability/reliability is the big question with all that weight taken out. I will hold on to my 044's for the time being. I wonder if it is possible to maintain the performance of the new Husky chain after it has been hand sharpened or if you have to grind it to maintain the cutter geometry.

    • @skogsforum

kyle smith Hi, yes, that is a relevant question. On like 20 refuels there is impossible to judge on that. It looks rigid though and Lars-Erik compared with his MS361 as well. We think it looks promising but we all have to wait and see how it performs in the long run.
We have hand filed C85 for some time now and it seems promising. We have four C85 out for test now and will come back with review even here!

Fact, heat and piston speed kills engines quicker, no matter how well there made. is the rebuild time difference worth the extreme power. Question is how well this the whole saw going to hold up over time, not just the engines top end. Quicker the saw the soon the top end will need to be rebuilt. A lot of time the faster saws like to pop out of the blue. lets play

This is not a chainsaw, this is a airplane, because it’s flying:)
With a good pilot of course...
    Thx!

Stay away from Stihl 261- My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.

What is so bad about it? Area is cleared, he wears PPE, legs are not in danger. I've seen people be more efficient, and I would have blipped the throttle less. But those are mere details.
