I lived in Hendersonville and flatrock many years ago but I'm back living in my home state of FL. While I do love the beach and our mild winters, the mountains offer much more. One day I'll be back! Btw, Anne is beautiful :)
When I visit my family in Mt. Airy I feel like time slows down, truly a great place to be. Gods land.
I'm planning to visit this area in 2015 as a nice 50th birthday present to myself.

The mountains?
I fell in love with North Carolina, everyone was so friendly. Hated the heat though lol
I'm a born and raised Asheville local, 6th generation actually, and all the transplants (mostly from Florida, new York and California) are driving the housing market sky high where many locals move out of state and either can't afford to be here or just don't want to be. The influx of people moving here is causing DESTRUCTION to the very mountains you all come here for because of the apartments and hotels being built. This is why many TRUE locals aren't very friendly to transplants. Please don't move here. We're beyond full. The traffic is horrendous compared to what it was, the drug problem is RIDICULOUS, homelessness is RAMPANT, crime is high, prices are high and it takes two plus jobs to survive. Sounds like heaven right?
Yeah come to New York City and look at our prices and jerk transplants
It feels like that's Everywhere. We were forced to move an hour north from our town where we work because ppl from the bay area ca drive prices up. That's an g north of sF.

They already have ruined it decades ago. Between high and increasing taxes, outrageous prices, and increasing insurances, it is very difficult for moderate income people to live here, let alone modest income people. And the local, rural people have been relegated to third class status. These outsiders have brought their high crime, high taxes, and 'affluent' arrogance along with them, which corrupts county and town officials. They also bring with them what they are escaping from. Our lives used to simple and quite here, but the tourists, resorts, and snobbish college crowd invaded and are destroying what they claim to revere.

1) Everybody came from somewhere else
2) There's always somebody that was there before
3) Most of us think it's ok that we move in, but then don't want anybody else to after us.
We don't give a dann how you did it in Florida,new jersey or new York.

Carol V I have lived all throughout NC, there are ticks just about anywhere in this State, just got to wear appropriate clothing and repellent.
Carol V yes, but not as bad as CA or coastal eastern seaboard. we don’t have the lone star tick that carries Lyme like illness, that’s on the coast. But we do have rocky man spotted fever occasionally. The ticks here don’t seem to be as dangerous.

All depends on which side the fence your on. Ive lived here 45'rs I started with nothing worked hard and honest built myself up 4 different times each time had my life stole down to nothing Hatters jealous no life trash and each time the law the judicial system covered for them they got in on it also I was trapped each time they commit the crime you go to jail They steel your life for profit and job security and they get by with it. The judicial here is a cover up for Proffit. WNC has a lot to offer but it comes with a high price. There are still good people and they are used as a billboard sign. Looks can be deceiving. I guess it all comes down to which side the fence your on. 1 example my home got broke into I called the law they came out 5 guitars 7 guns my safe 45 thousand in total they ask me who i had in mind who would have done this-it was ovious they told me get a location on them and they would pick them up -Start with that was their job- I got a location called and told them 3 days later I got arrested for horassing phone calls go to jail while there out selling my shit and liveing it up only one of few times simular situations like this happened. Iam not saying all WNC is like this. I live in morganton you know who you are ass holes whimps I go by bryan you know me Iam still alive and the truth is the truth. Dont be used for a billboard sign do your research in detail. Iam sure ill get some feed back ! What the hell. It is what it is THEN WHAT WHAT. If you're a Democrat this is the wrong State for you. I hear that Illinois and New York California is a great place to live. If you're an American NC is Awesome great hunting&fishing just for your info Whitetail hunting is in season 365 days a year. And most places outside of SanFran of the East (Asheville) you'll find that the Men are Men and the Wimmen are glad of it.
