  • The SAAB 9-3X is an ultra rare car built in the final days of SAAB. It's surprisingly brilliant.

    I have had my 9-3 for over 10 years now and still love the look of it. I was thinking of selling it a few years ago, but couldn't think of anything that I would like better at similar money, so decided to keep it and just upgrade/ modify it instead. Great video as always.

    I have owned a 9-3X 2.0T from new and I absolutely love it. As I can no longer buy a new Saab, I have just sent it for repairs and refurbishment to as near as new condition as possible, to Hagstrom Saab in Norfolk. Hopefully I will get another 10 years out of it.

      Hope the bill isn't too steep. I bought the car in the video with 82,000 on it last year knowing it needed a new clutch and flywheel,
      had the timing chains, sprockets, guides and a complete oil and filter change in the transmission. Other bits and bobs maybe another grand...
      It's now running like a swiss watch, and I love it. It earns its keep as a work wagon though.

      @@brownsvilleization Me too, but it will be what it is. Mine has always been a work vehicle. it drives like a real car, but also when needed happily goes down muddy forestry tracks and across building sites. It obviously ain't no Landrover, but is suprisingly good off road.

    I have the Same satnav in my 2007 Aero convertible, and whilst the DVD is out of date, it still works very well. The directions are always very clear, especially with roundabouts, where you are told, for example 'take the second exit, A52 towards Grantham' which leaves you in no doubt where you're going. By contrast, some other systems will literally say 'take the next left.' The only downside is that you can input an address using a postcode. You can get the DVD secondhand from various auction sites.

    My stepdad bought a 2001 SAAB 9-5 in 2004 and compared to the 1990 Volvo 740 we had before it felt like a futuristic spaceship. It was comfortable and powerful and was the first car we had with AC and such comforts. He wanted a new 9-3 after that but ended up getting a V50 as it was slightly more spacious. My cousin got a 9-3 instead and he is still driving it 15 years later. I’m driving Opel these days which are basically modern SAABs as they used to be both owned by GM but it’s not quite the same.

    Fun fact as a Saab owner who had an unusual glitch in that the system noise speaker shorted.
    Most except the Aero engines didn't have that turbo gauge, BUT, when you take the cluster apart, its actually there. The motors and everything. Only difference is the installation of a needle and the dial face.

    The sat nav is a GM product used by Cadillac and Saab. Loved my 2007 anniversary edition wagon but the poor quality of the interior compared to the offerings from other brands meant it had to go. The seats were the best though, superb.

    As a Saab fanatic with a 9-3x, with which I am very happy, I enjoyed your review. That having said, I must object that rear legroom is plenty, as it's as tight as in a 3-series or A4 and nowhere near cars like the Vectra, Passat or Mondeo. Also, I think Glacier Silver (which is actually a very nice light blue) is much nicer than red ;-)
    In terms of interior quality, getting leather door handles, handbrake and a leather wrapped dashboard facia makes all the difference, really lifts the whole experience to where it should've been. These very available from Hirsch Performance or use good quality aftermarket options.

      Thank you! It's good to hear from a Saab 9-3X owner, I think you might actually be the first in the comments 😄
      To correct you there - Backseat JJ said it's not the best in it's class and that he has 'enough legroom' :p but you are right that it's not the most spacious compared to those rivals you mentioned :)
      Great idea about the leather extras, I think I'd do that if I had one!

      Hi Henk, the interior on this one is a bit shabby. I wanted to get the mechanicals right before the looks, but I've got a pristine interior on the way, including some Hirsch upgrades. This one's a keeper :)

  • @aaaaplay
    @aaaaplay Před 2 měsíci

    It should be noted around 3:18 that in this case that is a GM head unit. Cars with the pre-facelift interior from 2002-2006 had the Saab developed system which was far more sophisticated with voice control, GSM connection, and a WAP browser. The car in the video has a nav system straight out of a Suburban/Escalade/Yukon of the same era. Not terrible, but Audi and BMW had much better infotainment systems by that point in time.
    I'd also suggest that an even rarer sight would be a 9-3X Griffin from circa 2012. I know the UK got the regular Griffin, but I don't know if they got the 9-3X Griffin.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  Před 2 měsíci

      Interesting, thank you. I think the blueness of the interface led me to assume it was Saab. I need to try a proper Saab one then to see what the fuss is about.
      I don't think we got the Griffin 9-3X here, but that must be a very special car.

    • @Rimkus7
      @Rimkus7 Před 2 měsíci +3

      Most of the SAABs were assembled in Sweden, that is already immensely better than Vectra. SAAB took everything that is good or ok quality from GM in parts and absolutely refused to use what they deemed total crap and put their parts instead. Thats why some parts for SAABs are starting to be quite difficult to get.
