John Paul Young sings his Vanda and Young hit for the SBS TV series, with a little help from Ash Naylor and the RocKwiz Orkestra featuring a surprise appearance by Brian Nankervis.
How good is this, JPY can still sing his guts out and is backed up by the best house band in the world. This is a classic song with impeccable credentials.
Squeak was a childhood hero to me I had the JPY stickers the posters all of his albums, actually I still have most of those album's and now in my mid 50's I still get a sense of joy when I hear his songs will remain a fan till I die.
42 years after 1st release and still sounds as powerful as it did back then. Voice has ripened with age but the presentation was as good as of old. 👏👏👏👍
Love it. Still gives me goosebumps. I was 4yo when released. Can really remember being in the car with Mum listening to this. Near the old papermill in Kew/Fairfield.
Hard to go past Vanda and Young for a great tune, because they wrote so many. With JPY singing Yesterday's Hero, it is yet another reminder of the talent they had as songwriters, and John Paul Young as a vocalist.
Vanda and Young wrote so many amazing songs. One hit after another! ... I wish someone had recorded my 1982 written classic song "Aussie Girls" back in the Eighties. I could have spent the last four decades as "Yesterday's Hero" myself! )-:
WHY WASN'T JOHN PAUL YOUNG EVER A CELEBRITY JUDGE ON AUSTRALIA'S GOT TALENT OR X-FACTOR he had street cred, big Aussie star in the 1970's pop scene with several big hits. PASADENA, YESTERDAY'S HERO, LOVE IS IN THE AIR
Yes me took yes we have the pics only one way in via ambo... A mess I am I survived, found on a gurney, placed in a coma and rushed into intensive care...4 months later, and 3 years have past but we survived.. And became today's legends... Are u...
The basement is real and it ain't no night club, today's legends yesterday's heroes.. We have the scars bruises etc as proof even the pics from inside . .
Great song and I'm no singing expert, like everyone these days, but it sounds like he struggled there a bit. Not that I care. I'm way worse than that on the old karaoke.
Age brings with it a deterioration in elasticity of the vocal chords and generally, reduced lung capacity. Both of which affect the ability to sing. JPY still sounds pretty bloody good all things considered.
The soundtrack of my life ...
How good is this, JPY can still sing his guts out and is backed up by the best house band in the world. This is a classic song with impeccable credentials.
Top song , it is mine
One of the best Rockwiz end act
First class, this is one of my favourite songs of all time, from an era when real rock & roll was produced.
Absolutely fabulous! How the icons of this era can still perform with such energy is admirable to say the least. Great song!
Anyone who thinks Love Is In The Air is his best work is sadly mistaken. This is by far the best song he ever produced
Love the nod to Countdown with the triple-projection of JPY's head.
Overwhelming sense of nostalgia right then!
Awesome, brings me back to 1975!
JPY, you Aussie legend!
God bless you, and thank you!!!
Damn, I never knew that was Vanda and Young. They could pen a mighty ditty. JPY proving his pipes are still loud and clear. I love it.
Saw the Vanda and Young show twice and would see it again, bloody fantastic and JPY you are still amazing
That is not John Paul Young.
Ohhhhhhh man!!!!!! JPY will always be a hero! My God that voice is perfection, absolute legend!

He still sounds great. Love this song
Nailed it alright, he's still got it
Have to give him credit, his voice is fantastic after these years. Great song
The 3 camera shot. Brilliant flashback to the 70s.
Great rock n roll voice
I got the Hero album for Christmas in 1975. Still have it. Still love it.
Pure goodness.
Just like that, instant classic.
Always a tight band
Thank you Harry & George (RIP)💖
Saw a video of him doing this very same song about 6 month ago and man, he still has it.
Love it. Still gives me goosebumps. I was 4yo when released. Can really remember being in the car with Mum listening to this. Near the old papermill in Kew/Fairfield.
Love it - that voice !!!! Fantastic performance. Thank you JPY. Never gets old
Nailed it. Strong performance.
JPY is a bloody legend!!!!
Australian Legend JPY
Thanks for the music + memories
What a perfect Tribute to all singers, we still love them all.
Great Song and Vocals by JPY
Hard to go past Vanda and Young for a great tune, because they wrote so many. With JPY singing Yesterday's Hero, it is yet another reminder of the talent they had as songwriters, and John Paul Young as a vocalist.
One of the best examples of Vanda and Young's prodigious song writing skills - post the easybeats era
under appreciated voice IMHO. Shoulda been far more famous than he was.
more aussie talent please!!! just listening on the radio in those goode olde days
NO IMPORTS!!!!
That's a beautiful gold top he's got there.
How did i miss this one. JPY is a classic
He is still rocking it like 1975
Incredible wow seen him last in 1988 orange show live Fuk yeahhh
Aussie icon.
Absolutely brilliant live, what a great voice

Glad to have met him
You have to give it to this old bastard. That was pretty bloody good.
😘ilove this song
Still got it mate👍👍
still perfect like fine wine he gets beter with age
Nankervis always seems pretty comfortable with himself.
I always liked JPY....those Vanda Young songs were perfect for him. Sings his old hit record pretty well here!
I agree with you Monique. I saw him at the Enmore Theatre about a year ago and he did a Vanda and Young tribute. He was great.
nailed it
I have seen JPY two times since watching this. He is as good as ever.
He looked like the dead guy from weekend at burnies , but he sounded as good as ever
Still doin it squeek.....We need you to do some tours..
Wow, JPY sill got it ❤
WHY WASN'T JOHN PAUL YOUNG EVER A CELEBRITY JUDGE ON AUSTRALIA'S GOT TALENT OR X-FACTOR he had street cred, big Aussie star in the 1970's pop scene with several big hits. PASADENA, YESTERDAY'S HERO, LOVE IS IN THE AIR

I was a young man when this came out and JPY did nothing to impress me. That has now changed...

Did even better on the NYE concert! 👏👍
I did'nt know this version....I always thought it was by the Bay City Rollers!!!!....
JPY's original is the best.
My era. Only found out recently that Bay City Rollers did this?
Love
Better than his own original version
Bring it on OLDE school muzik
Yes me took yes we have the pics only one way in via ambo... A mess I am I survived, found on a gurney, placed in a coma and rushed into intensive care...4 months later, and 3 years have past but we survived.. And became today's legends... Are u...

Kind of ironic the song is now about him... still got a great voice though!!!
Was thinking the same...
Ash Naylor🤘
Classic song jpy
I love you, Julia Zemiro
JPY is bit like Robbie Williams, in the sense that women from 8yrs old to 80 yrs old. They just love him, maybe a few blokestoo.
Hasn’t aged a bit for damn it.
Looked better in sailor suit ;) Dawes Point in the mid 70's total swoon merchant
Vladimír Dvořák 2:29...THANK YOU...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feb. 2024
My cuz :)
John get your teeth done son,you can afford it, great song
+Hunky Daboyz No need. THey are fine. This is real music, not pretty boys who rely on looks alone. Its all about the music!
an ironic song ,,but still good
i ever thougt it was a song of the "bay city rollers" ???
The Bay City Rollers covered John Paul Young's original Harry Vanda and George Young's composition.
Bay City Rollers version is nowhere near as good.
Could have gotten some of the girls to rip his shirt off? (Otherwise, brilliant!)
JPY needs to go back into the studio and record more hits so we can seperate the SHITS from the HITS
Is he relative with the Young brothers in AC/DC and the guy in Easybeats and Flash and the pan? Those three are brothers, but how about John Paul?
Nah, not related.
Who is that guy?
If you don’t like squeaky that you are tone deaf
Great song and I'm no singing expert, like everyone these days, but it sounds like he struggled there a bit.
Not that I care. I'm way worse than that on the old karaoke.
+Mark Gregory I saw him live in concert last year and he was fabulous!
In 1975 he was a lot younger when this was released it was a great track still is ,a little older but still enjoying what he do's entertain people .
Age brings with it a deterioration in elasticity of
the vocal chords and generally, reduced lung capacity. Both of which affect the ability to sing. JPY still sounds pretty bloody good all things considered.
Austin Powers
so glad his teeth didnt fly out...
If they were fake do you think they'd make them that yellow?
Umm...no. The Bay City Rollers own this one....
Man, couldn't they at least have had someone playing a damned acoustic guitar for the choruses. Cheapskates!
He sang good but the backing band lacked energy.
Yeah! I thought so too. They may be talented but they looked completely uninvolved emotionally.
