RIP Steve Harley (1951-2024)😢
Superb. Just getting better and better. Truly a great singer
God rest his soul ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've had his writing on my playlist for a few years now. I haven't heard of him yet. These songs never made it to us. I think it fits in with the music I used to play as a kid in the late '70s...
RIP
You made me smile so many times....
Cockney Rebel and Steve Harley, the soundtrack of my generation. A charismatic brilliant songwriter and a great performer. RIP Steve.
And The Great Machine thinks they can quench our thirst for independence.
Saaaad day coming for the unsympathetic power crazy asses who never lived.
😊😅😮❤
Today I feel a part of me left my soul. I have been a ‘Stevo’ fan since 1973 where, at the Roundhouse, an elderly lady attacked the queue waiting to see Cockney Rebel (for blocking the pavement). I never saw or heard a poor Steve Harley performance. One of the most hard-working and honest performers you would ever wish to see. The music lives on and will for evermore. Performing was his ‘job’ and he took it seriously. Family was his life and inspiration. My tears are for them and in memory of what joy he brought to my life. I came up and saw you many times and you really did ‘Make me Smile’.
Me too
An absolutely beautiful message. Thank you for sharing your experiences. 🙏🏾❤️
Touching memory and tribute. High light in my life was seeing Cockney Rebel when they played two nights at The Whisky in LA around that same time. RIP...
It's one of the most uplifting songs ever written.
Sounds like Steve enjoyed himself up until the end.
Vale Steve Harley
RIP mate.
Australia loves you.
Rest easy Cockney Rebel 😢 thank you for the beautiful music.
He must have sung this song 1000's of times and could still sing it with such fervour, total respect. RIP Steve Harley
RIP Steve, thanks for the music
He must have played this song a million times in his life and he makes it sound so fresh and exciting, like he was playing it for the first time. This is how you treat a classic song, one of the greatest pop songs ever recorded. Amazing job.
Totally agree. What a performance.
Yes and you could tell he was stoked with his and the band’s performance 🤩
He lost at least one octave.
Totally agreed nick, excelent comment
Hi you can make prettier music with acoustic instruments it's very clean sounding a great song
He'd been performing that song for 38 years and was still entirely present and having fun with the band and the back-up singers. Vale Steve Harley.
Imagine having that much fun and energy performing a song he's probably had to sing every single day for 38 years
This will be the song played at my funeral as the mourners, if there are any, leave the service!
yeah come up and see me has a complete different meaning when you are dead 😃
Never forget this great song, musician and singer. Oh to have those young days back......RIP Steve Harley.
The news of Steve's passing has me reaching for the tissue box. It's only when they leave us that we stop to ponder the imprint they had on our lives. So many memories. The profound words of the brilliant poet. 'Oh you'll think it's tragic when that moment first arrives, oh but it's magic, it's the best years of our lives. I'm lost now for the words to tell you the truth. All I can say is thankyou Steve for bantering with me the banter of youth.
I feel exactly the same.
Only listened to this a few days ago - RIP Steve Harley, you were one of the greats (this song got to Number 1 in 1975) and you will be greatly missed!
17-3-24
it's in my playlist about 8 times, it hurts now... this will pass, and i will smile again
Tears streaming down my cheeks, into the bathwater 😭. Thank you for giving us Steve. A true original. RIP
The coolest of performers, pumping passion into what is, essentially, a perfect pop song. You did well, Steve.
RIP Mr Harley.
One of the greats that gave some of us a great life playlist
This song really made so many people smile. RIP Steve.
Shed a tear here. What a lovely bloke. Rest easy pal.
Thanks Steve for writing my favourite song. You will be missed but your song will live on in our hearts.
It's 72' I'm 16 and life is all in front of me.What a song, and the memories are wonderful.
Those backing singers are incredible, the whole thing is class. Love it, played it about 30 times already.
Like many of the live performances I've watched, this is fantastic. Like you I can't stop playing them. I especially like the version in 2011 of Sebastian he did in Norway. The audience couldn't stop clapping and stood up to praise this God of the music industry.
Think i beat you ,im on to about 60 times 👍👌
Watch the hd 1975 version
Me at least 100 .. amazing
This is by far the best version of this song it’s Incredable . I wish every time I heard it , it was as good.
Steve giving James the "thumbs up" - that's why we loved Rockwiz ❤❤❤
Perfect, fantastic vocal, who is still watching in 2020
Me. Best version I've heard. Love it.
That old worn out who's watching question again.
That old worn out who's watching question again.
More to the point who isn't watching in 2020 👍
yes a great song a great entertainer and person. I do wonder if the people who were the target of this song ever wish it was not still played. But he had the last laugh on them .
With all due respect to Steve, he hardly ever gets mentioned among the greats. He should! Great singer, great music. Thank you.
I think probably because he is a one hit wonder rather then a consistent chart topper, but it still doesn't take away that this song is really good and somewhat underrated.
One hit wonder, just like the Knack
@@MrGroganmeister Who needs multiples when you can have the success he did with this one.
Recorded in 1975 and here he is still performing it.
He also owned a racehorse that earned him the equivalent of a decent hit record.
@@flamingfrancis Just read abt him today..he has the horses still..
And Cockney rebel.?
I was fortunate to be in the audience that night and wow, was it something special, with us all singing the chorus along with Steve. Sent tingles down my back at the time, and still does. Magical.
You lucky Bastard!!! 😅 When i got to watch this magical performance on t.v. I cried 😢 I have always luvd this song since the 1st day i heard on the radio. Still waiting to see him live..
👏👏👏🎉
I would have been standing to this man , no one was . 🤔
🎶💖 Ohhh you lucky thing!! 😄
Why was everyone sitting down . 🤔
Sad to see another one of the all time greats leaving us, RIP Steve Harley, go and party with the other fantastic musicians we've lost over the years 😢
So sad he died. It was a hard life and you made me smile. All week I have been listening to this song. RIP.
Part of me wishes I never found this because now my life consists of nothing but repeatedly watching it...
I hear you, can't stop watching it, I was 13 when this came out, but never heard it.
Ditto….
Every day for the last four weeks, and more than a few times a day. It's great!
I belted this out at an Open Mic recently on ukulele with another and a violin accompanying. Great song to get your lungs around.
And me!!!!
What an Artist!!! RIP Steve & Thank you!!!
One of the best guys in music, this is truly a sad day for music. you made millions smile and we will smile in your name sir. you gave us some fantastic songs, a list so big. thank you RIP music peace, where ever you are now make them smile, like you have us.
His reaction after the solo was awesome
I genuinely enjoyed that. Pure 70s style like don’t take yourself too seriously
After all the years it's still cool the 'pause'
@@1gerard47 possibly the greatest pause in rock!!
There was no pauses in Steve's original version. When he took it into the studio to record a producer suggested it. Bloody brilliant.
he tends a bit to be haughty
James Black is an amazing musician, actually all the Rockwiz musicians are!! From week to week, to year to year they never disappointed. 🤘😇 Thank you so much ❤❤
It is the greatest pause in Musical history. Somehow it makes the song. When the Artist turns and looks to the band like in this video it is a huge compliment. Its a Muso thing. The Rockwiz Orchestra and backing singers never had one complaint from anyone.
This song takes me and I suspect millions of others back to 1975. Timeless classic.
Truly one of the GREATEST ROCKNROLL SONGS EVER!😁👍🍺
😊
Foot tapping with tears here
1975, last year at school, sat with my mates, Jon & Steve listening to this. It feels like a lifetime ago now. Can I grow young again, instead of growing old ??
Have a listen to Tumbling Down (Live version) its a classic..
Loved your music for decades Steve. RIP and thanks for all the good times.
Thank you so much for this wonderful song. It’s been part of my whole life.
RIP Steve 🙏🏼😢
I’v have been listening to this song since 1978 when my husbund introduce me to it. He died 2019 so after 41 year together it’s still my favorit.
At the age of 10, I was rocked by my older brother's musical choices. Big hit from this committed singer. RIP
Rip Mr. Harley, whereever do you want. Many Thanks for your Songs, which often I heard❤
RIP Steve:Thanks for the music Sir 😢 rest well
His voice really has matured nicely over the years.
And he has a lot more hair than he did in the 70s!
It has but still sounds good would of loved to be there
That's what happens to legends
Auto tune
@@KlausinhoSAFD nope, that's all him
First released in 1975....I was born in 1980....I think there is vhs footage of me singing this as a 5 year old in 1985....10 years after its first release....and this song has stuck with me for all my life and I'm 43 now....thank you Steve harley R.I.P.......you created magic.
RIP steve 🙏🌹🙏 this song will be in people’s memories for a long time to come . 17th March 2024 sad day .😢
Found out he’d died Just listened to the old version and this one, this one just give goose bumps, what force.
41 years after you released this song you are still the coolest cat going around 😎😎😎
I think you mean 44 ;-) The song was done in 1975 and it's now 2020 and your comment is a year ago .... 2019 .... so 44 not 21but you're forgiven ;-) Yes, Steve definitely still has it ;-)
And it keeps sounding better every time
Where's the hat?
@@VikingLad EE: We're all on the same side: sharing the sentiment of satisfaction for Steve's success.
@@1gerard47 where’s the jacket mores the point lol
Rest easy Steve, thanks for the music ❤
Everything about this is amazing. Those backup singers are absolutely incredible.
especially one of them

Black dress, hmm?
Cheers Steve for All the Great Music and Times you gave us All.
Godspeed Steve 🙏 🙏
You Made Us All Smile 😃
RIP 💔Steve Harley thank you for all your songs and this one in particular , a beautiful gift to the world 🙏💔
Love the backing girls.
So do I !
they are fantastic
Best thing about Steve is he's genuinely having a good time
Still watching 2021 at 77 years, rock on, great show, great band.
Still the greatest pause in pop music.
Too true .............doo doo doo doo de
It's amazing how incredibly good a pause can be in music!
Probably, but I would settle for the one before the first chorus on The Kinks' "Shangri-la", just before Ray starts singing 'Put on your slippers and sit by the fire....'
1-2-3-4😀
I’m a drummer and our band plays this…. I totally love Steve toying with the throne guy on this. 🥰🥁
You were part of my life growing up in the 70s. Thank you. Rest in peace. LEGEND
3 years since I watched and this will not date...
❤️❤️❤️❤️it. Watch it every week. Especially with a glass of red. Timeless.
The singer in red! OMG.. 😘
I was frankly terrified to watch this. I thought that he might be a shadow of the mega-cool-cat he was in the 1975 video that was my previous obsession. (You know the one - he's got on a maroon bowler and matching long overcoat and he is magnificent.)
But how wrong I was! He's aged gorgeously, and his voice is superb. That hint of raspiness gives it a lived-in quality that brings depth and wisdom to this song. He's probably performed it - what? - ten thousand times? More? And it's still so fresh. I am newly in love.
yes ma'am you gotta love that maroon hat and coat! I wasn't even born when that version was released but he is FINE
Come on Steve RELEASE this again. it's one of those songs that does not age, and really does bring a smile to your face, and makes you feel good. 😜
Totally agree 👍
Best version ever - that's true. It was always one of my favourites. Now it's even more powerful.
R.I.P. Steve Harley. Thanks for the music!
I think this version beats his original version back in the 70’s.
I agree this version is absolutely kick-ass, but it wouldn't exist without the 70s version.
Thanks for your musical legacy Mr. Harley. R.I.P and condoleances to his family.😥
Fantastic. Great Song Mr Harley. RIP
Absolutely the best version of this awesome song....it's been almost 50 years and this tune still gives me goosebumps.!! Love it !!
Me too tears and smiles 😃
Me 2 and grreat smiles 😊
What a great song and great voice, great musician, great man. God Bless you Steve RIP 🙏 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this... the James Black solo, and Steve's wonderful appreciation. Makes me smile...😊
Cleanest version start to finish and the solo is just brilliant. Well done
The worst crowd on the planet
You done it all Steve. You will be sorely missed. I loved going to your concerts in the Glasgow Apollo and Glasgow mayfest. You were my teenage hearthrob. I will never forget you. Thank you for the music and the beautiful memories. RIP you beautiful man.
God bless you Steve Harley!!!
One of those RARE timeless classics. When a musician gets it 110% right in a song. Immortality gained in minutes, but almost impossible to repeat
wow simply brilliant. his voice is better with age. one of the best songs ever written and one of the most underrated performers ever!
RIP Steve .... you made many people smile with that song, I'm sure we will come up and see you one day x
He looked so psyched about the band behind him kicking ass. The joy that good music brings to both the artist and the audience is priceless. Live music is a special thing.
Maybe he was in a psyched mode, oh!
This is the best version I have heard. Steve s' singing is full of emotion you feel that he is actually saying something and not just repeating the lyrics for the 100o time. I also have to listen to this song almost every time I turn on my computer :-)
I heard the original and this version for the first time ever today, and my, oh, my... Both enjoyable in their own way, each with its own charm. Some artists age like good wine.
Wonderful clip. RIP Steve Harley.
I love how impressed he is with the RocKwiz band especially when the guitar solo bit come along ... 1:49
OUTSTANDING VERSION, OUTSTANDING! THE BACKING VOCALS ARE SUPERB.
Loved the song in the 70's and what a great job Steve has done with this. Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories
Brings back feelings of my youth.... get emotional about it!
Lord, after all these years this song still makes me cry.
Scott Reichert it happens to me aswell I don’t know why ???? But it does ❤️
What I appreciate about this version is you can feel how much fun he is having with it, which isn't super present in the original. It's like he's finally appreciating how awesome the song feels
More playful and confident. IIRC during this show he called it his pension fund.
Seen him twice when I was a young 20 year old. I'm 68 now and I absolutely love Steve's voice as much today as I did then. 🍁🍁🍁
Thank you, Mr. Steve Harley and all other contributors of this musical appearance, which reminds me of the best years of my life
Listen to this song all day. God has you now Steve. Sing with the Angels my friend. 🎚🎚🎚🎚🎚
STILL KICKING ASS IN 2023.AND,THE BEAUTIFUL BACKGROUND SINGERS! VERY COOL.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Despite Steve's passing our home is refreshed daily with his beauty.
Something persons in "authority" will never replicate.
The talent has spoken.
❤ to humanity
Would have to be the most underrated singer of all time. What a legend 40 years later & nailed it. Love the song to.
Of all the performances that Steve has done of this song over many years, this is by far the best musically and vocally. Steve's voice was spot on and the backing singers were excellent. I think this is the 12th time I've watched this in 3 days, just brilliant.
Please do it again steve with gum for all of us. ♥️ Living legend ♥️
What a pick-me-up...every time! The thumbs up double pause shows the real joy in this performance! Fab backing vocals too!
Steve Harley has matured and grown and is one of the very best. I can watch him - in the seventies and now - again and again. Go, Steve!
Steve should release this song again, it's so good. Needs to be on good morning britain, and Jonathan ross. Hope some body else thinks so to.
Funnily enough, he was just on This Morning, awesome live version.
What a song. 💗 it. Great to see Steve Harley looking so well also.
Thanks for all the music Steve, R.I.P. my friend, see you on the other side
In my opinion this is the very best version of this song, together with these 3 wonderful sounding ladies... Rest in Peace, Mr. Nice / "Harley"!
What a CHAP.
I saw him live back in 1975 when he was at the height of his career. I'm so happy to see him still rocking out.
This is up there with best pop songs of all time, sang with a passion rarely seen on such older songs. Makes me smile!
Absolute Gold to seee everyone enjoying the special RockWiz wayyyy ...
After singing this song countless times and he's not getting bored with it. Just like it's the first time - thank you Steve.
This is undoubtedly the best version ever!
Such a great performance too, amazing guy, so sad for his family and loved ones 😢
