- Utterly unbelievable. Six months into metal detecting and Albert has discovered the greatest metal detecting find I’ve ever seen!
I think it’s around 2,000 years old and it’s of national or even international importance. And my finds weren’t too bad either! 😆 😅
#metaldetecting #thescottishdetectorist #metaldetectinguk #treasurehunting #xpdeusii #treasure #garrettatpro #treasurehunt #xpdeus2
Your restraint in not bludgeoning Albert and claiming the find as your own is admirable sir
Haha 😂 next time!! The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
😂😂😂
Great Bit of Scottish History....Love to see a Video of
you and Albert showing Museum Staff....Cracken of a find
The skills of our ancestors, the work required for such a beautiful little piece ..
Absolutely gorgeous.
Amen James. They weren’t as unskilled as we think! Utterly amazing
I just think of all the processes from mining the metals , smelting techniques and understanding of chemistry and then the making of a mold .
New subscriber , love the show , keep them coming and hope you have much luck . 😁👍🇬🇧❤️
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
It probably didn't take someone as long to make that as it does to get good at a video game. Sad but true.
I never get excited over hammered, silver or gold coins but finds like this makes metal detecting an amazing hobby.
The Bulls head is an absolutely stunning find. I'm also intrigued by some of the other pieces of bronze. The small 'trumpet like' (pipe tamper) looks remarkably like the finial to a Bronze Torc, and the long bar of bronze may well be an ingot of previously melted down material. When you consider the disk with a 'nub' on the back and all the other different pieces of broken bronze; it is possible that you may have discovered parts of a Bronzeworkers stash of recycling material which was hidden and then never recovered. If that is the case then the whole area id incredibly important.
We’ve kept everything and will submit it all, and I agree, it looks like a hugely significant site 🤩
And next video from that site being uploaded just now 🤩
Is it a bulls head or a wild boar? The nose looks like a pig nose.
@@thescottishdetectorist Im sure you will mark the area where it was found, it will help the museum detectors. Fantastic find, my mind is blown also. Being a “Douglas” (my grandad was one James Douglass) I get a bit of the proceeds? Lol
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
Hello John, Your bullet is the result of a misfire. Instead of a hollow point, it had a “worm”, essentially a screw on a cleaning rod, run into it to pull it from the rifle after a misfire. The usual cause was bullet rammed with no powder charge. Onto the rest of your hunt! It is as usual, great so far!
Jeff what great info. Thanks so much for your amazing knowledge!
Wait until you see the find of the day!!! 🤩
My oh my! That is out of my wheelhouse, but out of this world nice! Of the highest form of art from that period I’m guessing. Gonna have to Knight Albert; Sir Albert of Detecting! Lol Really though, congrats to all! Can’t wait to hear updates on this piece, site! Take care and good hunting!
That's not correct. The bullet is a .577 Snider. Early bullet marks had an open nose which had a wooden plug fitted. This is one of those bullets, obviously now without the wooden plug.
In later marks the nose of the bullet was spun over with lead, leaving a cavity.
That is rediculously outstanding. No one will have ever had that on a bucket list because no one new it existed. Fan bloody tastic Albert. Well done Pal. 👍👍👍👍
Many thanks.
I was struggling to express just how amazingly rare and important this find and the site are. Just incredible and I was just delighted to see and hold it. Blows everything I’ve found in 23 years out the water!! 🤩
@@thescottishdetectorist Brings new meaning to the word bucket-lister if it is a bucket mount! What a find, interested to hear what the archaeologists say.
No, but it was on a bucket apparently 😄
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
That’s why I love watching UK videos. The ancient finds and learning the history of different time periods and people. Thanks so much for explaining your finds and when they were made. Who would have thought that 2000 years ago they were putting bull heads on the sides of their buckets
All the best for you and your mates in 2023. 🇺🇸Gary
Thanks Gary. An incredible find and hopefully more to come from this incredible field
Amen! I always assumed bronze age and iron age happened here in North America as well....but we never see things like this here that I am aware of?
@@thescottishdetectorist When you said the "similar" thing had sold for 10.000, it made me wonder, if thigs of significance can be sold in Skotland? In Denmark we have a Danefæ law, where the best things have to go to public museums, but are paid for.
Scotland has a procedure where you report your find and the finder and the landowner can get some of the assessed value of a find. This would probably end up in a museum, but these guys and the landowner will get something for it.
@@eh1702 Thanks. Sounds like about the same as here.
I spend hours looking through books full of pictures of artefacts like your bucket mount. I say 'like', but yours is by far the best workmanship, the prettiest and the most perfect I have ever seen. International importance.
I agree. I did a double take when he held it out because I couldn’t believe it and then wow 😯
😳 OMG John!!! That is a find like no other!!!! All I can say is WOW!!! CONGRATS ALBERT ON AN ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE AND BEAUTIFUL FIND!!!!!! WOW,WOW WOW!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Ray. Unreal. I don’t think he yet realised the significance but I certainly do. This is a national treasure 🤩
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
Albert, lad, well done. It's definitely the greatest metal detector find I have ever seen. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Amen Tara. It’s an incredible find 🤩
That animal head/bucket handle is just stunning! the artistry of it, the history of it! it has the lot and thanks for sharing the experience and excitement with you on video! I'm sure the Scottish museum service will have a big smile when they see it too!
Update is uploaded Alan, they were blown away, of international importance 😯
Amazing find, that Celtic bull.. no doubt a national treasure. I am glad we get to see it also! 👍
Much appreciated Toyz. Glad you enjoyed as much as we did. Unreal 🤩
I recently stumbled on your channel. I've always loved history n Scotland History. Your finds r amazing
Oh wow! Congratulations Albert! It's an amazing find and I can't wait to hear what you find out about it! Love your beautiful pups too! Thank you both for an exciting hunt! Have an amazing week!
Many thanks and have a great weekend Julianne … an epic discovery just unreal
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
John and Albert straight away the best find of the year 🎉.
Congratulations. And thank you for adding to our Celtic heritage. Really exiting find.
Many thanks and I’m
Glad you enjoyed
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
Hi John, just received my May copy of Searcher magazine and see you made the front cover with this incredible find, also great article, mate, I've also got an article in the same magazine but yours is absolutely mind blowing. Well done to Albert and all. Cheers, all the best, GL&HH, Ian.
Absolutely stunning find! Am looking forward to what the (museum) experts have to say. One piece of advice, never brush your finds on the field. Pack it carefully with all the dirt still on it, wrap it inside a moist and scratch free material like a cloth take it home and put it in some demineralised water or rainwater if you do not have demineralised water. Then preserve it with paragloid and or reinassance wax. Wish you all many great finds!
Many thanks for the valuable suggestion and you’ll find the museum video is uploaded with an update!!! 🤩
The ringed bullets were the kind they used over here during our Civil War, I imagine someone has already told you. The minimum balls I see have the hollow in the base.
The excitement you convey and knowledge is infectious. What an amazing find for Albert. It’s quite scary thinking how many fields out there hold undetected ancient relics. Unbelievable. Chuffed for you both. Let Hope you find the other half. Epic 🤩🤩
Many thanks Julian. I do tend to get a bit excited at times but I’m glad you enjoy! Much appreciated and see you on the next dig… and don’t forget to watch the museum follow up video a week off later than this one
I love your excitement and enthusiasm. It's wonderful.
Much appreciated and I’m glad you’re enjoying
What a wonderful find! I'm a bit sceptical about it being a bucket hanger. It's just far too fine for hoofing buckets round the place. Absolutely beautiful!!! Well done, Albert! Thanks for a fab video
Many thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed!! A couple of great videos coming up!! 🤩
Wow, wow, wow! Don’t know what to even say about that one! Thanks for taking us along for this one! Those 2 broach items could be maybe be from the same military organization or such since they were so far apart. You need to have a separate video just on the Celtic bull and what happens with it. I hope the Scottish government doesn’t kick you off this field to investigate it themselves.
Thanks Greg. It’s an incredible find, really stunning. I just hope the museum don’t mess around and spot the significance of the site and it’s importance. I’ve had issues before and they’ve lost out!
Your metal detecting videos are the best! Nobody can compare. So deserving that Albert should find this epic relic on your show.
Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoy. It’ll be tough to top this one that’s for sure!!
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
Keep hanging out with that Albert. He's a very lucky lad! Seems to bring in subscribers as well!
Yes he’s doing great, six months into detecting and he’s flying 🤩
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
What an awesome find! It's beautiful!!
Please, post an update once you hear back from the museum. I'm damn curious how old it might be and what experts think it could really be from. Would be so cool, too, if that field got archeologically dug now.
And you've got a new subscriber. ☺
Welcome to the channel and definitely we will keep you updated. What a find , what a day and what a field
Following this comment I would like to know what it is aswell
@@thescottishdetectorist please could you do a follow up video on all your things once you have cleaned and reserched? would love to se your collection at home!
@@thescottishdetectorist Co-Lab with the Time Team YT channel, they'll never get it all but they will scan way more and you could get some specific areas to search later.
They would probably have you help them detect the spoil piles while they excavate, the possibility of finding something to do for you to ordinarily detect would be much higher.
Absolutey amazing. Find of a life time
Amazing! I can’t wait for when you find out! Bless you and yours
Much appreciated, video coming today…. Hopefully!
Phenomenal find, you have to keep us up-to-date with what happens with that, congratulations
Wow, what a stunning find! The archaeological community is definitely going to want to dig there. No telling what else could be waiting to be discovered. Please follow up and let us know what you find out about the bull!
Amazing find! 🤩 Its in superb condition too with that beautifull patina
It’s a beauty 🤩
Omg what a incredible Find Albert has done, congratulations.
Best metal detecting find I’ve ever seen in 25 years
💕 the dogs' contribution!

Tremendous find, well done Albert I can't wait to hear what the finds officer and museum people people say about this., please keep us updated John.
Will do! I think this in a nationally important find, really something
The new museum video is UP!!! And it’s an epic discovery 🤩 even better than I hoped 😮
WELL for **** sake where is the link to the museum description ????
I'm just sitting here thinking about the expert craftsman who brought all of his knowledge, skill, and experience together, for what must have been days or weeks, to lovingly create something so amazing. I'm sure it would mean so much to them to know that thousands of years later their art is still being loved and appreciated by all who get to see it and its importance to the whole world. That passion for his labor transcends time and brings with it a human connection we'll never get out of a history book.
Stunning find. It's obviously very ancient and will have academics studying it for years to come. Good job guys. What a great field you're on there.
Many thanks. It’s an incredible relic, utterly amazing!

Albert, Garrett called and wants to sign you up to a movie deal..."Lord of the THINGS!" Way to go man, you inspire us all,......so are you to going to go back and pound the heck out of that field now? Cheers from Sayward Canada.
Haha 😂 we’ll definitely be looking very closely. Hopefully more to come
I laughed out loud when he said it was the best thing he'd ever found detecting and you said "how long have you been detecting? 6 months?"! I love seeing proof that you don't need a $2,000 machine to make amazing finds. Awesome video!
You need hard work, dedication and most of all luck! But a good machine does help but you don’t have to break the bank!! Thanks Elisabeth. I fear Albert has peaked too soon and it’s downhill from here 😂
@@thescottishdetectorist I have an AT Pro but only use my AT Max now. I'm definitely patient and determined but I live in the Seattle area 🙁which was only settled in the 1870's. The age of your finds boggles my mind!!
