    I appreciate mentioning that you made choices from different time periods. Sayers and Atkins should probably be in top five below Payton and Butkus. The reason Payton is greatest player of all time is because of overall skill. He is the only player in history who could play every position on the field. He was their third string qb and could throw 65 yards accurately. Check out his td pass gainst Saints to Willie Gault. Great receiver who could go long as well as take a screen pass for a td. No player in history had more tds jumping over his linemen from the one yard line. That could not be stopped. He had more ways to make a tackler miss than any player in history. He could break tackles in a variety of ways with a straight arm, a shoulder dip, a forearm shove, and his legs were so strong defenders would bounce off of them. He also had deceptive speed and quickness and could use that to make moves and then use his after contact skills. His yards after contact must be the most in history. His speed evident when in his rookie season he led the league in kickoff return average just like Gayle Sayers did his rookie season. He could also punt and kick extra points if needed. That leaves what could be his greatest skill which is blocking. Coach Ditka called him the best overall player of all time mentioning his blocking prowess. The most important ability a player can have is availability and Payton never missed a game in his 13 year career because of injury. Only game missed was one game in his rookie season which was a coaching decision.

      Anton Ton, Gale Sayers was one of the most spectacular open field runners in league history. Electric. The kind of player who filled you with anticipation whenever he touched the ball. Only a handful of RBs (e.g. Barry Sanders, Jim Brown, O.J.Simpson, Adrian Peterson) have had that quality. Knee injuries shortened his career. Unfortunately Butkus and Sayers played at a time when knee surgeries were far more invasive and career threatening. I think Sayers could've been ranked ahead of both Singlerary and Urlacher.

    Walter Payton would be in the top ten of all time??? I dunno - as far as all around football players I'd find it hard to argue he' wasn't THE BEST in the NFL's 98-year history. Running - blocking - throwing - receiving...the HITS he put on GOOD players... he was even the emergency place kicker and teammates said he could nail some pretty long FG's in practice... pretty hard to argue he's NOT. I know us Americans are obsessed with ranking things to the point of top ten lists of things you can't even really compare, but the lists I've seen tend to have a QB as no. 1 because he did what his position called for extremely well but I dunno man, as an ALL AROUND Football player, Sweetness has MY vote

      @williamkoscielniak7871 Před rokem

      Sayers only played like five healthy seasons, and he was competing with Butkus during that period of time for who the face of the team was. Urlacher was the face of the franchise for over a decade and was the best player on a team that went to the Super Bowl. Sayers is a legend but he just couldn't stay healthy long enough.

    Urlacher was a better all-around linebacker than Singletary. Could Singletary pick off passes?

    • @williamkoscielniak7871
      @williamkoscielniak7871 Před rokem

      Agreed, and I don't think it's really all that close. Singletary was an extremely intelligent, over-achieving north/south run stuffer. He played to his full potential, but his potential just wasn't nearly as high as Urlacher's. Urlacher was a much better blitzer and infinitely better in coverage.

    No way Jose. My top five are Grange, Nagurski, Butkus, Sayers and Payton (MAYBE Sayers could be swapped out, but I don’t see it). You really need a top ten, not a top five as there were so many players over so many years to consider. Sure, I would put Urlacher, Singletary and Luckman on the top ten. Walter Payton is the greatest FOOTBALL player of all time. He could do it all. Block, run, catch passes, throw the ball (34 throws in his career 8 for TD’s), kick and punt). Then Atkins and George?

    • @williamkoscielniak7871
      @williamkoscielniak7871 Před rokem

      Agreed. Singletary is, unfortunately, one of the most overrated players in Bears history. He was a very good football player with a very high motor and IQ, but he was just too physically limited to be put ahead of so many of the great defensive players that people put him ahead of.
