i dont find it to be a stigma, its part of the reality we face and ofc films with that kinda genre r gonna exist, they aint gonna go away, trust me. But I'm not saying films like this should not be produced as well, we need them too. I guess both films can coexist. Thats all and now i shall await for the sensitive people who might attack me. I have been wondering whether this book was ever made into a movie and I have been thinking that it would have to be a series or a very long movie. I have been thinking about how difficult it would be to adapt well. After a failed attempt, I am reading it in Spanish right now. I am not a native speaker. I´m level B2, so it´s very difficult for me. I read 1 chapter per month. I am on chapter 16, so I have been reading it for 16 months now. I am in a book club with 3 other people and we discuss it. One has degrees in Latin American and Spanish literature (as do I), but he explains the book. I did my undergrad thesis on Chronicle of a Death Foretold (Crónica de una muerte anunciada) by Márquez. That´s when I fell in love with the author. My heard jumped with excitement when I saw the trailer. It almost brought me to tears! I can´t wait for it to debut. I will watch it in Spanish with Spanish subtitles to help me improve my language skills. This is an important book for everyone to read because it explores the human condition and the history of Latin America through the microcosm of the fictional Macondo.

I was brought up by listening to stories about this book, my mom was a literature teacher and she'd always go on about how this was her favorite book. When I finally read it as an adult, it did not disappoint in the slightest. Better read(if possible) in Spanish, it is very hard to translate the argot and slang to another language, but still a fantastic book and probably one of the best in Latin American literature.

My entire world changed after a friend let me borrow this book from her grandfather's collection back when I was in highschool. I've always wondered if it would be possible to adapt it to a tv/ott series since a lot of what's in the book seemed like they'd lose their essence if not adapted with the utmost care. But the trailer has convinced me otherwise. I'm sooo excited to watch this!!!!!!

@@TheMrgoodboy2 You're welcome. However, I have to disagree. Even if in english speaking countries there's only one Márquez, that's still not his name, that's his mother's last name, he is García Márquez. By way of example, it is as if we were to call Oscar Wilde, just Oscar. To us it can be considered borderline insulting to call him Márquez because our last names honor BOTH of our families and parents, and he went by Gabriel García Márquez, so by calling him Márquez you guys erase part of his identity. If you want a more 'succinct' version you can call him "Gabo", which is his nickname and everybody will know who you're talking about. 😄

I am flattered for filmakers taking a time to make this movie. It is a classic piece of Literature written by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Although, his las film also base in one of his novels and short stories has not acheive any popularity among many people nor literature lovers. I am hoping this movie really portrays the storie as it is written. It is understandable not many movies are able to be faithful to the original story, nor from the novels or any piece of literature. Few producers, directors and writers have been able to attain a film that captivates it audiences in theater as well in books. Very few and those movies are still popular to watch even in school. They have great actors just as the book describes. I am excited to watch the film since I will be very critical on how faithful they are to the story and its characters, hoping this great piece of literature not only survives in books but in film as well.

I studied this book during my college years in 2015, we were in discussion of book adaptions into films and i asked my professor why this book hasn’t been turned into a movie yet since it has lying there for so many years now. And she simply said that a film will never be able to do justice with how beautifully the book has been written. Magic realism of gabriel garcia marquez is unachievable. And this shitty trailer from netflix just proved that.
It is really sad how art has been disrespected and condensed to churning out money in any way possible.
I am making my first animated short film, and i realise, that books like these, that has such a strong magic realism to them, need a medium that can justify their visual language because it is never easy to write something that is visually so rich into words, unless you are gabriel garcia marquez.
Hence, i feel like, if any medium can come even a little bit close to justifying the book and the author, it has to be animation.

Lets be honest. As a Latin person I've known of this novela almost all my life. I've never expected to see it on the screen, much less in subtitles for the English audiences. The answer is simple. Hollywood. That's why I'm so happy there are streaming services today. Today, thanks to Netflix and other platforms, there are no more gatekeepers who decide which story should be told. Now, all the doors are open to see whatever you want on the screen. I am happy for Latin America, for Colombia and for the Spanish world. We are finally being noticed and known. Latin culture is so incredible and profound and the only thing we have been known for are drugs, cartels, corruption, dictatorships, etc. But behind that dirty surface there is a incredible and vibrant culture full of magic that fascinates every foreigner that dares to visit. This is just another way to get into the deep. I hope this time we see something of the magic realism that Gabo intended in his works.
