- Machete defense. This came up the other day again so I thought I'd bring this video to the public page as it was done LIVE on our Members Only private page.
Something to keep in mind...there's obviously much more training involved than this 5 minute video. The video also is predicated on the fact that folks understand our overhead stick defense and the importance of bursting in and of the simultaneous counter attack.
EDIT: We thought it wasn't necessary to mention you've tried everything else to be safe and that you CAN'T run away for whatever reason. Apparently not. So to answer those in the comments that say 'run away'. Um....DUH.
The right way is to run & comeback with a bigger machete 👌🏻
hahahha
Always have a shotgun with you
comeback with a rpg..
You're exactly right for the most part.
This guys advice is gonna get someone killed. Apparently hes not been in a real knife fight or a fight with a machete.
He saying he can take a cut along the side of his arm.. I've been in situations where I've seen people Believe this garbage and end up Almost passing out in 45 seconds because of blood loss.
Yeah bro in school days i also have a machetes to fight its also very safety.
Warning. Do not see machete wielding maniac and think. "I got this"
I am from South Africa and the Machete is a common weapon and they come into your house and there is nowhere to run, so you fight to the death.
🥺
@Conrrado Torres bro i remember a quote from the punisher, he said " when ysomeone's fight you with a knife, he's gonna cut you, expect it, accept it "
Growing up in South America as a young boy in the 70s. My Father always had a machete around the house for self defense. He also thought us how to defend ourselves if intruders decided to come and visit us uninvited. Final outcome would be, they leave with a limb missing or their life ☠️
Shoot to kill the pigs that break into your home, machete or not.
And i from Colombia and here we use machete too.
When I was a kid living in South America. I witnessed two men fighting to the death with a machete. Forty some years later, I still have that image and know how effective a machete could take a life. Present day, I have a couple of machetes around the house, some hand guns, and finally a badass shotgun. Glad my kids and wife know how to use them incase we get an uninvited visitor(s) or ready for the zombie attacks 💀
Happy you've never had to use it or have it used against you. Props to you for teaching your family as well :)
Hi mr wick....
It works if you are no longer afraid to die.. but if you want to leave much longer take your sleepers and run as fast as you can..
Of course running is the first option, if you can. It's not always an option. Then what? Learn, practice, and prepare to give yourself the best odds of survival when all else fails.
You are right man, this is a very bad move to do what this master is teaching
@@likatamulayi4764 no but sometimes you cannot run
@@likatamulayi4764 tell me hows that a bad move? Or u can tell what kind of safety move againts machete that you can make sure you don't get any cut.
@@auzyx6138 this seems to assume that the attacker is making wide swings with the machete that leave his body exposed to counterattack. When fighting with a knife you’re supposed to keep it “in the box” ie close to your body, so that it’s harder to defend against
that dive dude .. it's like suicide in a real fight
I'm always curious as to how do I defend attacks against the machete.
The best defense against an edged weapon is a Smith& Wesson Revolver! Five shots center mass to slow them down and then the sixth shot in single action to the head in order to seal the deal!!!
3 important moves to take in different situations
1.Run
2.hide
3.stealth take downs

Good content, you can really do some damage in certain situations with this knowledge. Ideally you want to use your flight response and take off, but in a fight situation this gives you a chance. If you know the arts well you can actually cause more damage then the attacker.
What's sad is I have to search, learn and share these types of videos to my sons.. to anticipate attacks from my own husband.

Thanx for the video. Please put the defensive moves in slow motion also for better understanding 🙏
‘Kids are born with a machete in their hands’ 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Brilliant technic really in real attacks things are different faster and unpredictable but still brilliant technic that can save your life thanks
First rules of machete offense is to not let any part of your body get ahead of your blade, your partners leg is sticking out. This is unsound offense. My machete has a very sharp point so my first offense is not an overhand chop. An overhand attack would be used as a feint, and the attack would either be a lateral slash or straight thrust, either of which would be fatal! Best defense is run or pull a pistol!
I have seen tons of videos about defence against knife/machete attack, and I have not yet come across one that can convince me that it works in real life situations, not even Bruce Lee’s barehanded defence against a blade attacker.
Most videos still have the mentality using bare hands only, I came across a titled Thai boxer coach from a rough area and a head bouncer, they both claimed they would immediately pick up something to defend themselves, and I had to agree with them wholeheartedly.
You won't always have the time to pick something up is the issue so you need to have your hands and body trained to react. The overarching point is: Train hard and you'll be more prepared than if you didn't
@@ColoradoKravMaga yeah but training hard won't prepare you against a machete, if it cuts you it cuts you, not everyone will do obvious moves and even if they do I doubt that anyone that hasn't been in that position before will react with perfect timing to defend himself, if it's a bare hand fight, train martial arts, if it's a knife fight you should train sprinting
@@ColoradoKravMaga specially the first technique, don't you think someone that is holding a machete wouldn't immediately pull it back again and cut you down to up ?
That's why it's best to be insured by Smith&Wesson
Yeah true
What if the attacker's a left handed? Should you block also on the right? Thanks
Ideally with a left handed attacker you would switch and use your right arm.
But in reality, the angle of the attack carries more weight in deciding which arm to use to defend. For instance, a right handed attacker coming at your from your right side might necessitate a defense with your right arm if you're late and can't get your body turned to square off and use your left.
I remember this moment from COD MW 3 when cpt Price crying : "Yuri !"

Run for life, stop being stubborn.
This is appropriate against a stick. I am actually from a place where an attack with a machete is more likely due to severe guns restriction. That is not how a machete is used . Most cuts are circular. This is extremely risky. I might work but he actually knows how to use a machete you just lost an arm.
I thought that with any sort of knife attack, thrusts are the most common/effective?

You've never seen somebody swing a machete in anger. If you are within 21 feet and don't have good jogging shoes, you are dead, sliced and diced before you can barely say "Oh my gosh".
Better move: throw your keys and pocket change in his face very quickly and then run to the next county!
That's an excellent idea but what if he's on you before you could get your keys or change? I'd rather try to use this and maybe survive than do nothing and get killed for sure. No matter how you look at it going up against an armed individual unarmed is an act of sheer desperation.
I think a machete with a point such as the hog-sticker would give you the advantage with a Thrust
I'd like to meet the person that can grab their keys and change from their pocket faster than they can say "Oh my gosh" LOL
You have never tried to defend a machete. It's just like defending a baseball bat.

I wish I could still do Krav Maga.
Please i want to know if he attacks directly in stomach?
If you mean as in a 'straight stab' to the stomach? We''re putting together a follow up video that will include that.
Thanks for the tutorial.
You're welcome!
How to defend if attacks by cross movements ! I meant right-left instead of up-down
Initial movement to keep from getting cut allows for only 2 options, be out of range or be inside the arc of the machete's swing/range. If you burst in initially, you'll have to use a blocking movement on the arm (not the machete of course) as opposed to a re-direction like the overhead attack in the video.
If you are able to move out of range, but still close, you don't have the option of continuing to run backwards, since no one can run backwards fast enough to avoid a forward running attacker. So if you move out of range initially, you'll need to be prepared to move (burst) quickly back into very close range but using that blocking movement again as stated. We'll try to get another video up on that soon.
As I stated in the video here, you really only have 3 options: 1) Be out of range. 2) Be inside of the swing. 3) Get hit by the machete.
I think we all agree #3 sucks.
#1 can be accomplished but for how long? Moving backwards is never as fast as someone else moving forwards. Of course if you have time and distance you can always run away, and we NEVER advocate making a defense if you can actually run away first. Not to mention, if you are out of range and run away, there is no defense to be made.
So #2 is the answer to your question. We'll try to post a video on this in the near future.
Zero use in a real life situation, believe me.
Clorox Bleach you tried ?
He already said you r trading death with breaking an arm
I did live it only will kill you i lost 3 fingers
3 finger sounds like you did it wrong. There are no magic pills in life and death self defense, but you can learn, practice, and prepare to give yourself the best odds of survival when all else fails.
zeeaars everyone who tried is dead
The best way is run
This video lesson assumes that you cannot run and therefor have to make a defense.
What if multiple attackers
Of course multiple attackers, whether armed or unarmed, pose an exponentially more difficult situation. As with any multiple attacker scenario, movement is key. The goal is to only have to deal with 1 attacker at a time, so you'll have to move a LOT. Of course all of this assumes you have no other option.
Great demonstration of machete disarm techniques
Thanks 👍
In the first place think if that is real sharp his arm is already chop
Hey Chris! Machetes are sharp but they aren't Starwars light sabers. The technique is meant to get in quick before more chops can happen. You're going to get hurt in a confrontation if you cant deescalate and get out. This gives you the best chance to do damage and disarm the attacker.
Usually people come in group what will you do than? 3 or 4 people vs 1. I see alot of video where they simply swing. And together go in.
Good questions! Stay tuned for more videos on that. We are putting out a new video each week.
If you are in the streets run as fast as you can. If you are surprized an being attack your best option is this technique. Specially if you have a loved one or your kid next to you, common sense you want to be ready to protect them. Also their is no magic pill any martial art or fighting technique that will guarantee you to be a immortal fighting machine, but at least you increase your chances to come out alive in a life or death situation. Rather be prepared than clueless an get hammered to death. An one thing no one can be 100% aware nobody is going to be paranoid after training thousands of hours. Anyone can get surprized at any moment. If your going to critize this fighting technique Krav Maga has to offer. Well I suggest you train your running skills. Buy yourself a pair of Nikes and hit the park an increase your running speed & endurance. That's all folks take care.
Appreciate you! Train train train! That's the only way to increase your chance of survival. Nikes + Cardio + Drill the defense :D

"building a ramp with my arm" it's a f*cking machete. it's gonna rip my arm to shreds
I'd rather it scrape me than hack into me. The ramp allows my arm to take the damage instead of my head. It's a battle of "would you rather..." where the BEST situation is you can just run away and get out of there. Worst being you must engage this attacker and defend yourself.
@@ColoradoKravMaga why would you let a guy holding a machete approach you in the first place. where's he gonna hide it?
@@joebiden5274 If you read the description, you'll see that we mention that you have no other choice but to make a defense. The context on 'how did he get so close to you' has nothing to do with the defense, it has to do with situational awareness and avoidance skills (both worthy of training).
However, if it were that easy to avoid, no one would ever get attacked with a machete...but it happens.
If you are in this situation, please first option run, don’t fight
Only if you don have any other option!

what if he tries to pull back the machete when you hold his arms under your arm pit
Reda El harissi These videos are all a sham, real attacks are absolutely nothing like this.
Ideally you should trap the weapon in your armpit, that is actually easy to do. The real issue is that your opponent still has a solid base and good center of gravity. If you use this method I would try to stop that ankle in so I could get him to the ground. It might be better to make him miss the and trap the weapon to you opponents body.
Reda; It's a given that he'll try to pull back on the machete. We mitigate the possibility of the attacker regaining the use of it by doing 3 things;
1. The overhook on the arm is actually quite strong, especially when someone is holding something in their hand. The size of the fist with the object in it also forms a bit of a 'handcuff' in the armpit.
2. We are continuously delivering violent counter attacks, forcing the attacker to choose between taking damage and focusing on getting the weapon back.
3. Although not show much in this video lesson, while we are delivering violent counter attacks, we constantly drive forward, forcing the attacker to back peddle. That makes it harder for them to get good leverage and establish a base.
We disagree with trapping the weapon in your armpit. It slides out too easily.
Bursting forward and delivering immediate, constant, and violent counter attacks are meant to break his base and make him back-peddle. You may have missed it in the lesson that along with the defense comes a simultaneous punch to the face. This tends to catch them by surprise and helps break their base.
Actually, most machete attacks are exactly like this. Assuming you're standing and you see your attacker of course.

What if he swipes upwards?
Any angle of swing is dangerous and difficult to defend to begin with.
An upward angle is less likely and will have somewhat less power behind it, but still very dangerous.
The same "principle" of redirection can apply here, but your outside hand/arm will have to come across to help protect your head/neck since the momentum is upward therefore any redirection that the attacker follows through with will continue upward.
This is assuming the angle of attack is closer to vertical than horizontal.
The best chance for success in ANY machete attack is to burst in close, inside the power arch of the weapon, and damage the attacker early and often.
That very good
A good messer type wielder would not make such telegraphed attacks in real life. They would adopt a more long-point position and snipe at you from there, and all the knife/dagger defences unarmed will end up losing your hands or end up running into the machete as you are rushing in to arm wrap. Note: the attacker isn't using an ice-pick dagger grip, but the conventional one.
Nice
Thank you Lucino
Mister , or Master
I'm perplex. What you say makes totally sense, it's good, but while I check videos about street fight with machetes I never ever see none making a whole swing like that, using his full arm lenght. They come closer more than keeping themselves out of reech. So to pass the guard seems much complicated. You showed a quasi ideal machete strike, I would say, but in those fights, they allways are much shorter (and obviously quicker).
So How to pass threw it in that situation ?
In the video we do talk about 'short stroking' the swing and the problems that it may cause. There are no perfect answers but this method can limit, not eliminate, damage.

To all of your detractors....A person who practices is prepared ( on speed dial) A person who reacts gets jacked. It's all about practice u practice it until becomes innate!
Best thing is to find something that is long and hard like a iron bar because it will create distense
Of course any distance weapon is preferred! this lesson was presented for 'when there are no other options'.
Sir. Thanks for the video but you clearly have no single idea about machete fights or even have seen one. If you face someone with machete then believe me RUN AWAY.
LOL of course you should run away, IF you can.
So what's your answer if you're trapped or can't run because it's a surprise attack or you have the responsibility of defending someon else like your child.
I guess YOU would run away and leave your child to die. Other people prefer to have an option.
@@ColoradoKravMaga you’re not showing them what a real machete attack will look like. This isn’t Star Wars
You'd be lucky to find anyone who holds a machete like that let alone uses it like that. You also seem to believe unrealistically that you can step in faster than a person can strike with their hands....you wouldn't be teaching this against hammer fist or punches.
More than likely the sword is going to sit out in front and is going to be wiggled (flailed more accurately) in your face really quickly. If you present the outside of your arm it's going to hack into it. You'd have to be fighting someone who's been taught bullshido to really find yourself in the situation in the video. Another thing is the person might themselves be afraid to get in range and use the sword as a point you're not allowed to cross. I'm not sure of what is an effective way to get inside (why would you want to try?) but this isn't it...you also ignored their other arm.
If somebody is trained in the use of the machete or sword and gets within striking distance you're dead no matter what. Wild swings to the head is the way an untrained individual would attack with a baseball bat or machete. People who train in arts like kali, silat or any other weapon based system will not attack you with blades unless you try to take their life or threaten their family.
The same defense (more or less) is taught by Lee Morrison of Urban Combatives, a renowned expert in the field of self-protection. If you can't escape this is the way to try to get in and minimize the damage. There are no perfect answers to this type of life or death situations: even if you carry a gun and can get it on target quick enough you could still get killed if you can't evade his attack at the same time.
How do you know how a sword will 'most likely' be used? Did you study crime statistics and reports relating to machete attacks? If so please write a detailed analysis and publish it so we can all learn from it.
This assumes that the machete wielder is an unskilled attacker. If he's a skilled fighter who uses footwork to keep his distance, you won't reach him in time.
If he's skilled you're dead
Good
What if he pulls back with machete into a drawcut?
If you have his arm trapped at the wrist properly, it will be difficult (but not impossible) to draw it back. Add to that the fact that you are delivering strong solid strikes all the while, it makes it harder.
Now, if you somehow have trapped the blade instead of the arm/wrist, then it will come out. It might or might not slice you on the way out since it's flattened, though you'll have to get your forearm out from below it.
The key here though is to destroy the attacker with strikes.
At some point, you could sweep or throw to ground the attacker and get away.
Maybe if u have a baseball bat or good at running u might have chance to survive
Are you nuts? Attack the object that controls the weapon...the brain. Control the arm then attach the head.
It's a tough defense to make. We try to make as close to simultaneous counter attack as possible to get their attention off the weapon and onto "Ow my face"
It was a good defense but after you lock off arm with cutlass instead of going on the attack it's better to disarm the attacker first because if he pulls back his arm and gets free you're in trouble
Your control and attack in this scenario happen as simultaneously as possible preferably to the head to jar their brain to make the attacker think about something other than attacking you.
We also dive in to the shoulder because we fully expect more swings if we do not catch them and the shoulder is the least moving part of their swing.
You need to reset their thought process and cause damage so they either lose control of the weapon, or give you a chance to disarm.

YOU GONNA LOSE A ARM TRYING TO BLOCK A MACHETTE RUN AWAY AND FIND AN EQUALIZER DEFENSE WEAPON
Con un bate hecho de metal si te creo que puedes defenderte contra alguien con machete pero sin nada es imposible que puedas llegar tan rápido para detener el brazo del atacante porque el machete avanza tan rápido I no creo que puedas reaccionar en menos de un segundo.
Can you do that in an actual combat?
You haven't been in an actual fight man,i cod tell,,
the best way to protect yourself if some has a sword is to get away from that guy as far as you cod..
Yeah, I know enough about knife fighting to know that I have no business fucking with anyone who is wielding one in anger and part of the is knowing that you’re supposed to keep the knife close to your body, not make wide swings like it’s Star Wars
The key word is to run....
Very risky. Better to step forward on either side of the attacker to prevent yourself from being injured while pushing the arm holding the weapon away so you can either counter with knee or wrap your arm around the weapon.
Professional bolo users here in the Philippines do not use bolo to stab vertically, it is always horizontal.. So this defense won't work here. You're gonna lose an arm if you do this.
Agreed, this defense is NOT for a horizontal swing. Different defense,
So a machete attack is no more dangerous than a stick and can be countered with he same defence ? Hard to believe that, sorry.
We never said a machete is not more dangerous than a stick. What we said is that the attack itself, the motion and angle, is similar. So we have a similar approach to defending it. The only difference is that against a stick you are safer if you DON'T get "inside" the arc as much. Against the machete, you really want to be far inside. Hope this helps clear things up for you.
