- In the newest Talking Strange paranormal pop culture show, journalist and host Aaron Sagers (Travel Channel’s Paranormal Caught on Camera) talks to Rhys Darby, the comedian known for Flight of the Conchords, What We Do In The Shadows, Jumanji - and his long-running paranormal podcast The Cryptid Factor.
And he is also starring in the new comedy Our Flag Means Death, premiering on HBO Max March 3, produced and co-starring his mate Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do In The Shadows). The 10-episode season is (very) loosely based on the true adventures of 18th century would-be Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnet (Darby). After trading in a refined life to be a swashbuckler, he becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes change after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard, played by Waititi.
And in the following talk, Rhys and Aaron discuss the pirate's life, as well as aliens, cryptids, and UFO disclosure.

I love how happy Rhys seems to be anywhere, he just looks like he’s having a blast with whatever he does.
Every interview where Rhys talks about this character he gets very personal. I guess that's his dramatic method? Finding all these personal connections to the character.
Aaron: Is this like a self contained thing or could you continue on with this
Rhys, knowing how it ends: How do I say that people are gonna go absolutely fucking insane if we don't get a season 2 without telling him that it ends on the worlds worst cliff hanger
Oh my gosh, he knew it would be a hit (25:00 roughly). 😭 This was such a nice, long interview with Rhys. Thanks!
I love that he was so confident about it!!
I love Our Flag Means Death and Rhys is just phenomenal as Stede! Really hoping there will be another season -- loved hearing the story about Buttons too!!
Rhys is a comedy god, Thank you for bringing this to us🦖✨
I can't believe they didn't tease the fact that a cyptic being factors heavily in the plot and symbolic themes of OFMD - the Kraken!
The Kraken wasn't in the first 5 episodes. It wasn't in the press pack.

Loved this interview! Didn't want it to end, I could listen to him for ours! And great interviewer too
Me trying to zoom in to see the book titles on Rhys set. 😂😂😂 #booknerd
Great interview. Love Rhys and this is a great interview. Thank you for it
A Bob Ross board game on the shelf says a lot about a man. He doesn't take life too seriously, or he harbors a secret wish for a big afro, or both.
