Hey, TB- that bottom pocket on the front holds the rain cover. It’s perfect! We got caught in a downpour in the Amazon and it took maybe ten seconds to access it and pop it on, enveloping the entire massive bag.
So rain cover was my very first thought, but I literally just checked it again to be sure, and I had a colleague make the same assumption and check but no, Is your rain cover attached to the bag or removeable ?
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography The rain cover folds up into a built-in pouch about 12x18mm. It has snaps that connect it to the attachment points at the bottom of the outer panel. Goes for about US$40, which is pricey but feels worth it - once you find yourself drenched and holding a dry bag.
Hi Thomas , what's about carrying the complete load via the zipper? The shoulder straps are attached to the lid, right? I would be concerned that the zip would be under too much strain and I might find it better to attach the straps to the top of the backpack.
Maybe over a very long period of time (after years) if you constantly left the zipper done up to the middle rather than all the way around to the bottom, would I even consider this a potential issue. I am stating the obvious here but the zipper is incredibly high end with hundreds of points of content AND with a lifetime guarantee, so even if it did wear, you’d be covered
I haven’t taken it on a all day hike yet, but the nature of my work has required all day walking up hills with a lot of photos on the way and it felt great. But it is too heavy for my liking as a hiking bag.
It’ll hold any big tripod if attached correctly, it just depends on the height of it as far as balance goes. I did attach a video tripod to mine and it was fine, but I needed the waist straps to keep the bag from tipping
what mic were you using for the xh2s vs xt5 comparison? the audio sounded way better in that one. maybe because the mic was closer to you. great vid just some feedback.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography oh ok yeah that is what i figured. it definitely made all the difference. i would recommend a good shotgun mic down the line for videos where you are not up close. when one is trained right on you, it will sound very similar to how you sound when you have the mic right up to your face. awesome videos bro. keep up the good work. :)
I have done that for most of my videos and it’s a outstanding senheizer shotgun but I guess my room just doesn’t suit it as i couldn’t get it to sounds as good as it does.
@@ThomasBusbyPhotography oh i see. i went ahead and rewatched with my headphones on this time, and yeah it is just a tad quieter in my opinion than the videos with the nearby mic. it could be the room. a bit of foam here and there really goes a long way. even having just a little bit right behind the shotgun mic, and some on the sides could help isolate your voice into its polar pattern range since shotgun mics have slight pickup range on the rear and sides.
An interesting bag, how thick is the base of the side pockets? I have found that sticking tripods into packs normally punchers the bottom of most side pockets, or in think bush the sides of the pockets get holes when the tripod rubs against trees / rocks etc.
The shoulder straps slip down a little over a few days of heavy use, which is not at all a biggy. Otherwise still the absolute best bag I’ve ever used.
The large and medium inserts have worked well for me, but I currently wish I had more. One large for my photo kit. One large for my video kit. One medium for sound. One medium for Timelapse or specialty kit etc.
Quick question can a gimbal (eg. DJI RS2 or RS3 pro) fit in at 4:26 (Front access) without being expanded? Or does it interfere with the big access part? Btw awesome video quality and illustration of the backpack
Finally had both this bag and my RSC2 in the same room and tested this. From removing the foot, and the legs it fits in very easily without any stress on the zips. I first did it with the bag expanded, and then removed the expanding to see how tight it was, and it’s absolutely 100% great. I’m surprised I didn’t think of this as a sheltered transport for my gimbal was needed
I have been buying peak design stuff for a while now (backpack, straps, & now tripod). The versatility of the bag & origami dividers is amazing, the bag being waterproof with no cover needed. They make great stuff, can’t recommend enough!!!
Awesome bag, just too expensive. If they included the cubes in the price it would be more palatable, but it's just so hard to justify when it comes with nothing,
I can confirm that fits in all manner of US and Brasilian airplanes, too. Tuck the shoulder straps into the hideaway slots on the back, and it becomes the tidiest piece of luggage in the overhead. It *can* make for a tight fit if you have to stow it underneath the seat where your feet go. But I’ve never had to check it or let it out of my sight.

How did you like the carrying comfort on a hike?
I haven’t taken it on a all day hike yet, but the nature of my work has required all day walking up hills with a lot of photos on the way and it felt great.

Can’t remember the brand off by heart but yes it was a proper studio / voiceover mic inches from my mouth.

A cover would still be good for covering external items like say a gimbal but yes couldn’t agree more, they make a premium product
Maybe playing devils advocate, they might say the gimbal should come with a case.

Every time I've looked at a Peak Design product, there's always a bit of sticker shock, but then I get the item and it always justifies it's price.
