DJing with Stems

Here's a video reviewing Stems in Serato 3.0, and showing how I'm using them for transitions and mashups on the DDJRev7. I used to use Stems on Traktor, and I'm aware that Stems have been available on other software, but this is the first time its available in Serato, which is big news if you're a Rev7 user like me :)

A very good DJ, and friend of mine, from the Netherlands, started experimenting buying tracks in stem format and mixing with them. It was fun for about an hour.

when I used to buy tracks in stems format (for Traktor), the thing I found frustrating was that sometimes the stems drums were different to the original! One time, a breakbeat was changed to a 4 to the floor beat!

I can see why the tech to do it is available, it makes things so easy to remix on the fly, but really, if a DJ can't EQ out enough of one track to do a decent remix, then it's not worth faffing around with in my opinion.
Each to their own though, and it's good the technology is available to those who want to use it.

Hi so I dj at sweet-sixteen tonight and I took risk of using the beta and I must say I’m impress it’s more stable than the current version 2.6, and my laptop is not that new is a mid 2015 MacBook pro, I basically dj the entire night, six hours to be exact and no problems, the only thing I notice is the waveforms look different they look almost the same as virtual dj so that got me thinking???could it be😮

Yes bro, I’m excited about Serato stems…..and unlike Djay Pro it’s going to be a free!!!….The only downside is it’s going to put weight onto the CPU

I did enjoy using stems in Traktor a few yeas ago, but it was obviously limited to which tracks artists had released in stems format. So for me personally, I prefer being able to create stems on the fly with any track in Serato. But then again, the audio quality of officially released stems for Traktor was way better.

possibly, but bear in mind the files are being played at pitch, and with the stems algorithm and then coming out of the phono outputs straight into the mic pre of my camera, and the being imported in FCP and then exported as a H.264 file, so there's a few places where the sound is getting degraded.

It’s true, but I would say the majority of club DJs will use either record box or Serato, most likely with Pioneer hardware, so this is a big announcement.
I don’t remember much about Virtual DJ, but I bought a license for DJay because of this (and because of Spotify integration!)

Yes indeed and I'd been tempted to try out Virtual DJ to get Stems, but there's some limitations to using Virtual DJ on the Rev 7, so I didn't bother. Does Virtual DJ have the echo out feature on the stems buttons?

even XTraxx stems whic h is a paid software doesn't sound perfectly so it wil prolly take years to make it sound real good in real time ... still dope for live mashups tho

I was in a club somewhere and said "the music is too damn loud!" Soon as I turned I saw a huge sign above the door and it said, "if the music is too loud it's because your too old to be in here!" I shut up fast and had a blast... I think! ;)
