Secondly, the goldfish aquarium! I can't wait to see it, awesome 😃 Thirdly, a great video and everything explained in great detail! Like,like,like 👍

    I never knew about this filter. I really like it a lot. This is something I would buy when needed. Yes I have watched many of Dr Novak's videos and I do use underground filters. Dr Novak is also a (almost used a harsh word) person that loves loves to talk and go on and on and on and on and on. He could certainly get his point(s) across in much less time, thus I really do not watch him any longer.

    Smaller internal diameter and greater hose length both increase water flow resistance. Also, height increases hidrostatic pressure. Hose thickness or rather its elasticity also play part in resulting flow, but I guess its negligible for this application.

  • @johnd7377
    @johnd7377 Před rokem

    i did not go through all the comments so my apologies if someone already said the following. the flow could be restricted due to the way the 2 canister trays were inserted. this model has an issue with the wide metal plate legs. if not positioned properly a leg on the bottom tray can restrict the inlet port. this issue has been resolved in newer models. The top tray can (should) be inserted with the legs upward. Since the canister cover is flat, if the legs are downward then the top of the tray will be flat against the canister cover and can restrict the outlet port.

  • @d-godfather
    @d-godfather Před 4 měsíci

    Flow is rated at the nozzle of the pump, hence the lower results.

  • @NORIaquaCh
    @NORIaquaCh Před 2 lety +1

    The problem with this canister filter are indeed the bottom and top plates that restricts water flow. If you are lot careful with the bottom plate, one of the legs will block the inlet hole in the bottom. Similarly with the top, if you are not careful with the top plate, for example pressing the top plate against the lid, will block the outlet hole partially or entiterly.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  Před 2 lety

      That makes sense, but with the hose size the flow is already restricted so this canister and much like any canister will never reach their full potential. For this canister, the cleaning is bit more annoying than anything else. But it does look good though.

    A similar rated pump (SIcce Syncra SDC 3.0, 800gph, 35w) shows on its flowchart that at just over 3 ft of head pressure, it barely pushes 1/2 the GPH rating at 400gph. I'm just estimating you have about 5 feet of head pressure, which that Sicce shows flows about 250gph max, not accounting for the slight flow loss from the 90 deg bend feeding the pump.
    Since the pump is external top mounted, you also have to account for the suckage from the bottom of the cannister into the overall head pressure. With typical submerged pumps, even some reactors and skimmers with external pumps, they are mounted at the bottom. I wonder how much that gravity of water in the tank or sump helps with the pumps flow capability, counteracts the head pressure somewhat I'd think, versus pump having to both suck and blow. Ok, I'm talking myself into getting one of these now, for all the wrong reasons. I think it would certainly effect it in this mounting configuration as the filters clog up more if not maintained regularly, as the pumps flow is all coming through a 16mm hose feed by a slowly clogging chamber, rather than it sitting in the bottom of a tank/sump with access to larger water mass to feed it.
    Great video.

    What is the optimum flow rate where you get the full use of your filter? Lots of variables, but I think you don't want to ram water through your filter at such a high speed to get the most out of your filter. In fact I like a little slower speed it seems to have what I'm looking for.

    • @TankTastic
      @TankTastic  Před 2 lety

      High flow is for heavily planted tanks and you need water to circulate the tank and move the co2, etc. heavily planted as in a jungle which most planted tanks get to.

    • @100bgeagle
      @100bgeagle Před 2 lety

      That's not what I'm asking I know flows for the tank, what I'm talking about is the right flow to get the most out of your filter and it's ingredients i.e. bio rings and sponges.taking out the nitrates and turning into nitrites and beyond. The speed of the water through the filter,not the tank, that's what I want to know, I really don't think anyone knows or has done a study on this I guess.

    • @TankTastic

      4 times turnover for planted tanks 10 times for cichlid tanks. So if you have a 100 liter tank you need real world lph of 400. 55 G tank then 220 gph for planted tank and 550 for cichlid tanks. These are general guidelines. Ymmv depending on fish stocking but it's a good standard.

    • @TankTastic

      I do with it has a 25mm inlet and outlet, but it does not. and it will never reach the manufacturer rating, the power is only good for when you get lazy and don't want to clean your filter so you turn it up to supplement the loss of power LOL

      I answered another comment with similar sentiment. But the biggest problem is the hose size, as this canister or any other canisters will never reach their full potential with 16/22mm hoses. Lets say the plates do affect it, just move it aside vs the hoses.
