Fiat 500 boot wiring defect due to design and poor materials

Showing the defect which appears to commonly occur in Fiat 500 models. The warning light on the dash, the boot not opening and on the cabriolet version the roof not fully retracting are all attributed to this problem not to mention no number plate lights.

Same issue with my 2013 Fiat. Combine that with the door hinge breakage problem and an inexplicably cheap armrest that broke, Fiat has some quality issues.

Volvo S40 have the same problem with the trunk opening latch. Had to literally crawl into the trunk after folding the back seats down because the Canadian version has no anti-kidnap handle. Easy fix but it comes back, had to do it twice so far, last time I did it I added a few inches of wire and crimped it with electrical crimps.

My CTS also just had the same issue and I just fixed it by crimping it too. I imagine all cars with mobile cabling in hinges will eventually develop this issue. It's a matter of failure point.

The door handles are weak on the joint but I think in my experience it is also in part due to operator fault my little girl pulls on the handle but if you open the door at the frontal area near to the lock then you should have no issue it is when you pull at the rear of the handle this is where you will in time find the handle breaks

Common fault I had the same issue the wiring is hair strand thick terrible quality I'm looking into a company making revised loom section for the boot.

hey, did you find something nice ? my boot wiring is half dead already (no rego light nor boot opening from the switch...) i'm looking to replace some of the electronics wiring

My wife's Fiat 500 has exactly the same fault.....

My husband is considering civil action against the dealer, it is a ridiculously poor design and they only offered to cover 15% of the very hefty £600 repair bill. My husband and grandson repaired it temporarily at zero cost with a soldering iron and some tape in about an hour.

Stopped here on my research into this "common" problem ... Glad I didn't buy my 500 Lounge New ... Way over priced and SO many glitches like this ... 😞
