Check out this awesome restoration of a Mosler Junior Toy Bank Vault! I have always been they guy that picks up stray pennies, you know the old jingle "find a penny - pick it up - all day long you'll have good luck!" Not sure if this really hold true, but I'll take all of the good luck I? can get! But once I got my lucky penny home, I realized that I didn't have a suitable place to keep it. Luckily the mailman brought me something just in time, but now that I had my new Mosler Junior Toy Bank Vault, it was in serious need of a restoration!
The process to restore this toy was pretty simple. Luckily there weren't too many parts, so after I figured out the combination the disassembly was pretty straight-forward. Just take the doors off the hinges, remove the combination lock wheels, and take out the "bank alarm."
The alarm didn't need much, just a good vinegar soak and some oil in all the right places, and it's ready to safeguard my bank once again. The combination wheels were pretty dirt and the numbers had faded, but after some cleaning and white paint to fill back in all of the numbers, I was pretty happy with the way they turned out. Luckily this toy was made in time time when things were actually made to last, so the rings around the combination wheels were actually metal. They were pretty rusted and gross, but after some time on the buffing wheel, they were shining like a brand new mirror again! The sandblasting was a little trickier on this one just because the size of the bank and the fact that I couldn't fully disassemble this one. I probably could have, but it was help together with 20 different spot welds. To bust all of those welds loose would have caused damage to the bank and been more trouble than it was worth. So it was easier just to strain to get the blast nozzle inside the bank and spend a little extra time cleaning it up. From there it was on to the powder coating. Once I had everything looking new again, it was time for a re-assembly. The most time consuming part about this whole project was the label! I searched everywhere and could not find a new label to purchase, so I had to make my own! The process was actually pretty easy, i just designed the label freehand on some free editing software, printed it on some water slide decal paper, sprayed a few coats of acrylic, and it was ready to use just like any other decal.
Total time spent on restoration: 7 hours
Total Cost of Restoration:
Toy Bank Vault $15.99 (Etsy)
Powder Coat Paint $20.00 (Prismatic Powders)
Water Slide Decal Paper $14.99

AWESOME! I love being able to see the artist behind all the great work! Set a trend!
lol thanks!
I love that it has holes on the back so you can mount on a wall (in the back of your closet)!!!
Yeah I definitely need to find a good hiding spot to mount it!
See a penny
pick it up
and all day
you'll have good luck
love it! 💜
See a penny
Let it lie
Lady Luck will
Pass you by.
Very cool! I had one of those, exactly like that one, as a kid. Never kept money in it, but all my treasures. Thanks for the memories.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The intro was great, awesome video!
Thanks brother!
@@TRGRESTORATIONS You and R&R are the resto channels I really enjoy Merry Christmas!
@@bgdavenport I completely agree with you
It was good
Another great job! Enjoy your sense of humor!
I had one in the 60's but single door. Great to see again.
Watched in 2X speed... Still freaking awesome!!! 😀👍
Awesome! Thank you!
I yell with joy too, every time the sand blasting kit comes out
💕 This is super cute !! As a kid of the 60's, I love seeing these toys, etc. Nice job !! 👍🏼😉🙋🏻♀️
Beautiful home also. 😊
Thank you 🤗
It looks like that bank vault is designed to mount on a wall. Pretty cool restoration on a valuable teaching toy for kids where they can learn about saving
Liking the video before watching it because I know it will be amazing!!
Thanks!
Liked seeing who is doing the work ... Interesting beginning .. I love to watch you restore these items ... I , too , like restoring or repurposing items .. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
What a difference, the job you did is outstanding.
Thanks for sharing this. 😉👍
Thanks for watching!
Finally, a face reveal. Your expressions are priceless. :)
lol thanks. My wife said I needed more "human interaction" in my videos
@@TRGRESTORATIONS I agree. How about a little commentary during the video.
Very nice indeed.
I used to have a bank like that. But it was only a single door bank version. But this did bring back those memories all the same. Thumbs Up!
Thanks for the surveillance footage of the safe being boosted!
Great job! And GREAT FLAG Brother!
Thanks man!
GREAT RESTORATION!!!! you're talented at this business.
Thanks!
That looks really cool. Helpful hint from my time removing and reinstalling panels on aircraft. Put the hinge pin into a drill and run it in that way. It helps to file a small lead in on the end of the pin (just a very small bit)
Thanks for watching!
This thing is freaking gorgeous. I was especially impressed with the knobs with their nice white numbers, and with that clear coat they looked like shiny new red plastic. They just looked awesome. And the decal process was really cool.
Ps - you had me chuckling quite a bit too. :)
That stethoscope could have been rough if the alarm hadn't been bent XD fun to see one of these looking like new
nice job but there's just a problem, you've reversed the doors
It was intentional to better suit me since I an left handed lol (wink-wink)
@@TRGRESTORATIONS I'm also left handed! us leftys gotta stick together.
that alarm was just the CUTEST thing! (wish I had one of those banks)
You can find at yard sales and flea markets Ohio-Arts the same people that made the ORIGINAL Etch-A-Sketch made millions of them for over 30yrs. Try looking on E-bay. They made double door and single door toy safes. As a youngster I had one filled with silver quarters and dimes only. Over time I forgot the combination , it was no match for my fathers 20lb. sledge.
I cheer inside too when it's sandblasting time! Great job ☺
lol me too!
As I'm finishing up the restoration of a Dietz #2 lantern some of your ideas have inspired me. Thanks for this video & the label process was just super. Thanks
I had one of these growing up. Very nice to see one restored!
Thanks for watching!
Looks brand new another beautiful restoration
Thanks!
Thin Blue Line in background is extra nice touch. Nice work!
Thanks!

Super rad ..had this when I was kid..great job
Cool! Thanks for watching!
awesome restoration 😎👍
Thanks!
Raise your hand if you had this bank as a kid. 👍
I respect those who do restoration with electrostatic paint!
Who knew you were such a cutie?! Love your restoration projects. You've got a gift. (This bank actually looked to me like an old lunch pail with knobs.)
This restoration is mighty reall.
Thank you.
This whas awesome to watch and make me wanna watch more video's on this channel :D
Greetings,, Kitty.
Great job! It looks wonderful again!
Thanks!
Dude that's badass bro.
Thanks!
I remember seeing one of thse banks a very long time ago. When I first saw you working on it I thought that the bank was a smaller version of the one that I remembered. Then I realized that the bank was the right size but that I was only about 4 or 5 years old the last time that I'd seen one! Thanks for the video. It brought back a lot of memories. Great restoration!
Beautiful job man
Very funny intro, enjoyed it very much!
Thanks! The wife said I needed to add more "human elements" to my videos
Nice restoration! looks beautiful and waits to be filled with a lot of coins... good luck.
I'm hoping to fill it with bills! lol
Awesome intro. The bank is so cute. Great job.♥😺♥

That shineny penny got new home in a shineny toy bank. Great job

My sister had a bank exactly like this back in the 70's
Great work!

Great Job , have a nice day !!!. Brian UK .

I subscribed to your channel a little but this video tells me all I need to know! Under every tough Marine there's a kid wanting to play with toys! Cool! Good Job! :)
Lol Thanks! Army actually, but I do love my toys!
Nice restore! I just wanted to see the alarm go off when you tried to steal your penny back.
Seemed like there was a lot of water in it. Good thing you got to it before it rusted some more. Nice work BTW. The double door ones are harder to find than the single door banks.
Thanks for watching!
Great work
Gosh! I just loved this video!
Thank you for your video and your service! ♥️😎
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant. Lovely. Thank you. It does make you stop and wonder about how much longer we'll even have coins. I hear Canada no longer distributes pennies. "Financial institutions have not been receiving pennies from the Royal Canadian Mint since February 4, 2013, so they may no longer have pennies to distribute to customers."
Your acting is on point!
Very handsome.. and i don't mean the bank vault!..💜🇬🇧
I 'm hooked on these restoration videos. I know I'm going to catch hell for this, but one critique I could make is don't use pop-rivets (unless it came that way originally).
Thanks for watching!
Just amazing work 👍
Thanks!
Very nice 👍
Thanks!
Watching this I keep wondering what to do with my TV, I think I am going to get rid of that damn thing. This is so much more fun...👍👍
Good job. The label was amazing.......Congratulations fron BRAZIL.
Thanks for watching!
Well done. I really like the finish
Thanks!
We finally see the artist behind the sand- blasting machine cool
Even before I saw the thin blue line flag I could tell you were a cop... lol
I was going for career Marine ! 😉
The walk gives it away every time.
What a fine job you did! :)
Es increíble. It's incredible
Love your work !!
Thanks!
Awesome restoration! You have a very nice front entrance to your house!
lol thanks! That's mostly my wife's doing.
@@TRGRESTORATIONS Well be sure and tell her. =)
Great restoration! I thought you might go with “first semi national bank of TRG... give till it hurts”. But I guess the original label is ok to... T-Wrecks
Love that! I want one now....
Another great video! Keep em coming,Lol. I noticed you have your own soap brand on last video, that's cool. Thank you
lol yeah, I got tired of giving away free advertising

@@TRGRESTORATIONS you`re welcome Sir!
Is my guess correct that you had a lot of issues driving the hinge pin in for the doors, and that the doors wouldn't line up right?
If this is the case, don't powder coat hinges, or at the least don't do so on the surfaces that are going to touch. You added what looked like a primer and top coat to those doors, and that tiny bit of thickness, plus whatever made it in the hinge hole, made re-seating those pins a nightmare.
On something like this it would be time consuming to block every hole, but the time saved putting the doors and pins back in would save your sanity.
He could just use a sacrificial pin during powder coating and pull it out before baking, this way the insides of the hinges would stay clean and clear.
@@cove81 Would still have to address the edges of the hinge. Taping them requires a lot of small pieces of tape, but would ensure it they would slide back together easily.
@@murrys5444 you're right, I didn't think that all the way through. Maybe if he cut a small dowel, about the size of the hinge and slid a piece in between each opening. Time consuming but maybe not as much as taping.
Great intro, neat job! Loving it.
😓 i never saw that as a kid. I always had the songle door about 5/8 that size in grey. Loved it until i foynd a flashlight could see through the coin slot at the locking mechanism. Great memories.
Loved your rebuild.
Thanks for watching! Hopefully your safe cracking days are behind you lol
Great stuff! But did you print the logo? Just normal paper and coated with clear paint?
Amazing!👏👍🏻
I have a single door Mosler Junior, all it has is a 2 number combo, and the coin slot on top,had it since I was 7 years old, still locks and unlocks.
Cool! Thanks for watching!
another beauty!! it looks like it has 4 holes on the bottom for rubber feet as to protect the finish
It has 4 on the back as well. I believe they are screw holes to mount it on a table or the wall.
very nice job
You should dip some of your tool tips in plasticoat. Won't need to tape them to stop scratches
you should put something soft on the floor of the vault to prevent paint chips when the coins fall.
Powder Coat is way stronger and loads more durable compared to regular paint. He won't have to worry about paint chipping.
Not to mention, half the satisfaction is hearing the coins bounce around.
Your work is good, congratulation
Thanks!
I've still got mine and it's just as good as shape.
Really nice workmanship on this little safe, but did you ever get the alarm to ring properly? I couldn't hear it over the music, so I wasn't sure. Did/could you test the combination on the safe? Cute piece of childhood memorabilia, thanks for sharing this video with me and please keep them coming in.
Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up

Hi TRG 👋👋👋 very good restoration toy bank vault 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Great Job, TRG!
Thanks!
Rifadete!!
Buen trabajo!!
¡Gracias por ver!
Love the intro & resto.
Thanks!
Good intro:) As for restoration, I got some deja vu, thinking that i am watching bosnian bill reviewing some lockbox from walmart (i think that he featured some "safes" that had worse security than this thing).
Thanks for watching!
The Mosler Safe Company name is on the Toy. Mosler built the vault formerly used to display and store the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence. They had a model of the vault in one of their tech training facilities. I know because I work in the building as a security guard(I was very young). The company was in Hamilton,Ohio. Hamilton was known as "the safe capital of the world" at one time. Mosler, Diebold Safe & Lock Company and Herring-Hall-Marvin safe company were all in (as some people call it here in Cincinnati) Hamiltucky .Fun esp.
I have one very similar to yours. I’ve had it since I was about ten years old.
