Testing out the Rytm with the Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro and figured I would share what I did in this 33 degree London heat.

Amazing sound design
Thank you, much appreciated 🖤🖤
Bahhhh that pad and bass combo is killer
Cheers 🖤 yeah those Silent Hill pads are great and pretty flexible
Ohhhh this is SO good!! Really enjoying this one
Cheers, the chord helps so much i feel. I’m always so hesitant to put one there as it makes it work easier 😂🤦♀️ but I’m glad when i do.
gorgeous
Thank you 🖤💜
As said before, so much inspiration. Love your explorations. A question on the audio routing though. You are able EQ the FX on the Mackie right ("after the fact")? How? By routing all tracks to individual outs and just have the FX sends on the main outs into the Mackie? Question two, by routing all tracks to individual outs you bypass the distortion and compressor right, for track sounds. Although the FX will still be affected, correct?
Thanks for the support, very kind of you.
To answer all your questions, yes you are right on everything you assumed 👍
Happy to clarify anything though!
love what happens at around 4 minutes
Thx 🖤
This is great
Cheers, appreciate the support 🖤💜
Dope.
Thx. It’s a dope box.
Great insight. I've really enjoyed the technical commentary! Is this the raw output of the Rytm into the mackie or have you done post processing. It just sounds remarkable.
Thanks, appreciated.
So this is all Rytm and the one sample, into Mackie and some small eq/compression in the Motu. You could definitely do the compression in the Rytm though.
Fantastic as always. Maybe I missed it in a previous post, but why did you opt for the 1202 VLZ pro over the VLZ4?
Thank you 🖤🖤
Actually I haven’t mentioned anywhere yet why i got this older model, but that’s a good question. Basically I wasn’t sure, but have heard the later VLZ’s distort differently and this is something i wanted to be sure was a particular sound that i know. Having owned the 2442 VLZ Pro years ago when i was a nipper, and know have two 16404 VLZ Pro’s, i just needed that era mixer for familiarity and studio-to-live be more seamless.
I suspect the VLZ4 sounds amazing tho, looks very nice.
I found the individual outputs of the Analog Keys sounds notably better then the main channel outs. maybe something happens in the box when they are all bussed together.
Ah really? I haven’t noticed a huge change but not done much experimenting with it tbh. I would have assumed some differences though i agree, although for sure, just being able to have separate eq and gaining is already a huge step.
Same as the analog four, sounds a bit muddy and lacking in high end using the headphone out. I almost sold it till I tried it with the individual outs. Sounds much better via overbridge as well
@@teamcoalhapcharcoal ah yeah headphones out will sound different for sure. 👍
I found the individual outs on my AK sound way better than on overbridge. maybe they have different adcs@@teamcoalhapcharcoal but obviously the option of processing separate signals is worth the trade off.
my syntakt is super fun with overbridge.
I use the same set-up + oto bim and bam on the send and it is an amazing combo- I also prefer the 12 to the 16 lighter and more compact- the 14 is not bad too as it has fader - what do you use the stereo out for?
Niiice. A friend uses the Bim and loves it. I bought the Bam especially for this but it went missing and appeared in my partners studio 🧐😂
I did think about the 14 for the sliders but a little big still. Happy for dials though, although I definitely prefer sliders.
The stereo out on the Rytm is running just the internal fx.
@@ExpectResistance yeah try to get it back the BAM idoes magic - i also got the BOUm - all 3 are a must have
@@mizazu75 i got the Flashback and Bam for live stuff, and also an old Alesis Nanoverb…all went missing 😂 still her stuff is dope so it’s all good
great stuff as always!
how do you route the effects seperately?
Cheers. So you can turn on/off what tracks you want sent to both stereo out and fx. So I removed all tracks from stereo out but kept all tracks sent to the fx. Under settings, audio routing.
@@ExpectResistance aha, so the main out becomes the effects out. thanks for the reply!
also, your videos are the most interesting and inspitrational on these boxes - they are on a hole other level. thanks for letting us take part!
@@JuhaniEkstrand yep that’s exactly how it works 👍
Thanks, appreciate the support and happy to hear it’s inspiring/useful. 🖤
Incredible jam! How'd you make the cracking spring reverb fx that happen intermittently?
Cheers, thanks for listening.
It’s either the snare drum or the sub bass being run through it. The other thing it could be, when it’s the delay, i found quickly flicking the intensity up to full after sending it a signal caused this crackly delay/spring sound. Sub bass sounded better although the chord was ok too.
I'm trying to replicate it with snare and sub bass routed to a delay send and cranking the intensity but its just sounding like delays. Would it be possible to check your device to see how its being done?@@ExpectResistance
@@Cybercowboy_69 sure, my setting were: i had full volume on the reverb, just over quarter on delay, clean tape, saturation just over 1/4 on. Bass just over half, treble full, delay mode 2. Repeat rate 1 o’clock. I also eq-ed the RE-202 on the Mackie to have mid and high boosted.
Obviously make sure the reverb on the RE-202 is set to spring in the hidden settings.
I was probably sending the audio into the RE-202 quite hot as well. Also the output of the RE-202 was sent a tiny bit to the LXP-1 which had a different timed delay but quite subtle so shouldn’t make much difference.
I hope that helps.
Is there possibility of your touch on Analog Four in near future ?
I hope so. I can’t afford one or know anyone local to lend me one unfortunately.
@@ExpectResistance You rhythms are inspiring 🙌🏻
Ah thx, appreciate it. Yeah hope the A4 arrives one day. Maybe a polite email to Elektron is needed 😂
That's actually is a great idea @@ExpectResistance
You elevate Rytm to another dimension. Amazing skills. This what looks like if someone gets to know the instrument inside out. That infinite reverb … lush. Respect.
