    Question...are you using the same size cake board as the diameter of your cake? Trying to figure out how to keep the cake board hidden as you have done because if you use the cake board as a guide for bench scraping around the cake, then it reveals the cake board. How are you able to keep the cake board hidden? Also, it would appear that you will want to do the last step on the display cake board so that you don't have to move it to the final display cake board afterward? Thank you!!

    • @SheriWilson
      @SheriWilson  Před 2 lety

      Hi David! I use a cake board larger than the cake itself. It makes it easy because you can also serve the cake on it and don't have to worry about moving the cake after decorating. You could certainly decorate on a board the same size as the cake (the frosting should cover it completely) and place the cake on top of a larger display board afterwards. x

    • @David411
      @David411 Před 2 lety

      @@SheriWilson Thank you. When you say larger, how much larger than your cake? Also, even if the cake board is larger than the cake, when you do the final passes to apply the stripes, are you not still using the larger cake board as your guide and thereby exposing the cake board? Thank you again for your help!

    • @SheriWilson
      @SheriWilson  Před 2 lety

      whipping cream would probably not hold its shape the same way buttercream would, but you could try piping it onto the cake in stripes and then smoothing it out. I'd be interested to see how it worked!

  • @harumimartinez
    @harumimartinez Před 3 lety +1

    Sheri, can I ask how many grams of butter you use for one batch of buttercream? Just to have an idea of how much buttercream I should use for the coat to be thick enough. For a 6 inch cake, I usually use 400 gr of butter and 650 gr of icing sugar (for the crumb coat, final coat and decorations on top). I feel like I am not making my final coat thick enough and maybe that is preventing me from scraping until the lines get clean. Thank you!

    • @SheriWilson
      @SheriWilson  Před 3 lety +1

      harumimartinez my buttercream recipe is on my website, and it uses about 450g butter and 900g powdered sugar. That amount usually fills, crumb coats, and is enough for a final coat with swirls on top. If your final layer is not thick enough, it will definitely effect the stripes. I hope that helps!
