    I am grateful to see a Anki tutorial by a law student and NOT a med student!!! lol However, I am curious have you found a way to adapt your outline to import the information into your decks instead of manually just typing your notes into flashcards?

    Gareth, I can't thank you enough. I just got my results back from my first semester and I got a 1st in 4/5 of my law modules! I couldn't have done this without your method that I stumbled across at the start of the semester.
    My results from 1st year don't even impact my final degree once I finish the 4 years, but it is good to know that your method that I've applied has worked. I'll be definitely making use of Anki for all the years ahead of me.

      Hey, thank you for the kind words and I'm super happy to hear that you found the video so useful! I certainly wouldn't have been able to get a first in law without Anki, so it's great you discovered it so early in your degree! Good luck with the rest of your degree :)

    This was an absolutely AMAZING tutorial and I LOVED your style of explaining things. I've been wanting to use Anki for years but the sheer overwhelming aspect of using it has always made me download the app, try to learn it, but give up. I will be using Anki to study certifications, and this tutorial has given me so much hope. I've purchased tutorials before that were just as overwhelming as using Anki. This was EXCELLENT! Please tell me you have a course on using Anki even more! I'd purchase in a heartbeat!

    Hi Gareth, I've just finished my first semester of Law School and I've been using your Anki method since the start - I made over 1,000 cards. However, I have a question now that my first semester has come to an end.
    One of my modules was Criminal Law 1, and next semester I will have criminal law 2. Should I continue learning my Criminal Law 1 deck given the fact that I'll have Criminal Law 2 next semester, or would that be too much information to learn since I have about 550 cards for that module.
    Another module I did was Media Law, which I'm never going to have to do again. Should I just completely forget about all the media law flashcards or should I keep learning them?
    I'm so glad I came across your video at the start of the term as it made it so easy to memories all the cases and such. Thank you!

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 7 měsíci +1

      If that information will help with your next module, then keep the cards in your deck and continue learning them. It shouldn't be too much additional effort too because the spacing between those cards will soon be at 6+ months, so they'll only very ocassionally be shown to you

    Yes! Thanks, Gareth for this detailed video. I found it really helpful! I got some questions as to how do you refrain yourself from making too many cards? and how do you condense the information because I tend to write everything on one card and find it difficult to review it :/ Also, how can I review my cards in the order I created and not randomly? Thanks again :)

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 3 lety +6

      Hey, no worries, I'm glad you found the video helpful! 😁
      Firstly, Anki is perhaps most effective when you only create cards for the things you struggle with most. In other words, I would first summarise your notes for a particular topic (so you condense the information upfront) and then, after that, choose the most 'difficult' information to create a card.
      With your second question, being selective with the information you create cards on will certainly help. If you find a card has too much information you are either best off splitting the card into 2-3+ different cards or using the cloze deletion tool I discuss in the video. Cards should be really quick and easy to answer, so if you have more than a sentence in an answer then you need to break it down or shorten it.
      Finally, my recommendation would be to review the cards in their specific order as the algorithm is designed to show you the cards you struggle with more often. If you just review them in the same order they are created you're not using Anki's most powerful tool. However, if you do want to review them by creation date, I think it is possible but I'm not entirely sure of the process (as Anki doesn't have a quick method for doing this). Although this Reddit post may help: www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/3tgpcl/how_to_view_cards_in_the_order_they_were_made/
      I hope that helps 😁

    Did you use Anki as a supplement to your outline for finals, or did you only use Anki? If you used Anki as a supplement, how did you use it? For instance, you would review your outline/notes on one day and just use the Anki flashcards when they came up? Thanks!

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 3 lety +2

      Hey thanks for the comment! In short, I’d only create cards for either the things that are super important and/or the stuff I keep forgetting. If you try to write cards for everything you’ll get overwhelmed. For everything else, I mainly used progressive summarisation. This involves summarising stuff at different level depending on how deep you want/need to revise.If you want me to explain how that works I’d be more than happy to do so :)

    • @matthewsaladino3611
      @matthewsaladino3611 Před 3 lety

      @@heygarethevans Thanks for the quick response and the advice, much appreciated! If you could please give me a brief overview of the progressive summarization, it would mean a lot!
      When it came to outlining, would you have one area of your class notes, then revise them using the progressive summarization, and finally input that info into your outline?
      Lastly, when it came to your weekly studying, would you study your notes and only review your outline when it came closer to exam time? Or, would you solely review your outline after creating it each week, using the spaced repetition method and or active recall?
      Thank you so much for all of your help! I apologize for all of the questions, however, I’m trying to be like you and finish at the top of my class!

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 3 lety +3

      Progressive summarisation involves making various levels of detailed notes. So if you’re revising a topic you could have one level that just explains the topic in one sentence, another level where the notes just outline the topic in 10-20 bullet points, and a third level where you have really detailed notes of the topic. So when you come to revise the topic you can choose how detailed you want your notes to be. I have a video about it, which I’ll link to this comment when I’m back home...

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 3 lety +2

      I start by making some detailed notes of the topic and progressively summarise those notes until there are just a few bullet points for each topic. Any key info is put into Anki. To revise, first learn the foundations/basics of the topic and understand that first. Only start learning the details of a topic once you’ve understood those basics

    • @heygarethevans
      @heygarethevans  Před 3 lety +4

      You need to review your notes regularly after you’ve created them. Anki will automatically show the important/difficult information so you never forget it. But you also need a system for memorising your regular notes too. I used a colour coordinated calendar so I could keep track of when I last reviewed a topic and how easy/difficult I found it. The more difficult I found the topic the more often I’d review it :)

      @heygarethevans  Před rokem

      You can download flashcards made by other people here: ankiweb.net/shared/decks/ - but if I'm honest, it's much better to make them yourself if you can! Making the flashcards is just as much part of the learning process as studying them :)
