FILIPINO SARDINE NOODLE SOUP - Davao Province Beach Home (Life In Mindanao)

- FILIPINO SARDINE NOODLE SOUP!? Yup, this is a classic dish, and one that "Happy Engineer" decided to make for us.
On this Philippines Beach Home day... we start off with the canned sardines, locals noodles, and positive cooking vibes. After hanging around at home, I go for a quick run, and then find myself desperate for a coconut! Luckily we have many coconut trees here in the Philippines, and at our beach home.
Province life really is relaxed at times, and I hope that these raw life days give a positive example for what the majority of Mindanao is... beautiful, peaceful, positive, and full of great vibes! We head to the hot spring, and I find myself jamming out with some locals... and finishing with some Ube Cream Liquor!
Another Philippines Beach Home Province day in Cateel, Davao Oriental, Mindanao!
POWER ON!

Hello Kulas! You probably won't even get this, but here I am trying, because why not, and I think this is some story to share in your blog that I watch daily with my 1 yr old daughter Blakeley. So, here we go.
When you were singing 'Kapayapaan,' my daughter danced to it, that being said, I looked up the song and I've never heard of the band, nor remember Tropical Depression. I have to add, I was born and raised in Manila (Parañque) and moved to the U.S. when I was 13 y/o. That was 23 yrs. ago.
Going back to my story, so we listened to Kapayapaan, and finished watching this episode. I then shut my music on my phone off. And went about on changing my daughter. As I was doing this, Tropical Depression's song 'Ala-ala,' came on, LOUD, without me being near my phone. You have to listen to it, to understand what I'm about to tell you.
My father passed 1 yr ago. He loves Filipino bands, like Asin and such, which represents the Philippines and its roots, just like how I feel about Tropical Depression. Just so happens that the song that came on talks about losing someone. That even when they've gone wherever, that the memories we make with them will always be in their memory - Ala-ala. I bust in tears, as this happened.
I wasn't scared, but rather, as you may know, in the Filipino culture, this is is a sign of someone we love who passed, just saying hello - they're fine. So, I just want to share that story with you. Thank you, because if it weren't for your post of this band, this would've not happened. Again, from the bottom of my heart, Maraming salamat Kulas. Power on!
D LATA MEAN FOOD IN CANS LIKE SARDINES 🎉
Most of Us (OFWs) dreamed of having a life like Kulas in the Philippines.. a simple province life 🤍🔥 Power On Kulas, Bret and all the Cateel boys!

Hi Kulas! Can - Lata
Rotten- Latà
That's how you spell the words that the difference. Rotten one is with sort of apostrophe
In Kulas house everyone can share their cooking prowess I enjoyed watching everyone busy in the kitchen.
When Kulas said "I have a confession..." I was so focused on what he's going to say ,and when he said it's about the most serious "kuko" pronunciation 😜😂 lmao so hard aaaayyy Kulas really don't fail to switch me to good vibe in a snap🤣🤪
Pinoys always show what they got😎 The coolest people on earth😎😁
They sing and dance like it's nothing. Like, they don't care what other people say about 'em. Like, whether their voices are music to the ears or not as long as they're enjoying and having fun. The filipino spirit👍👏👏
Man, you have improved a lot. The becoming filipino is now becoming a singer. 👏👏👏
What a life having coffee in the morning while watching the misty waves of the ocean 🌊 👍 Oh man, I’m so jealous he he he he he😁
Dog in the hammock is so cuute!!😂😂
The daily life of Kulas and the Cateel Boys isn't dull... It's a vacation.. 😉
Thank you Kyle, Bit2x, and everyone in Cateel.Your videos inspire me to create and docuVlog my Life's Journey, and helped me fight my demons(anxiety and depression)...Power On! One Day at a time...Cheers
You are getting better each day speaking and learning Bisaya Kulas! Lata in english is tin/can, while delata refers to all canned goods. While lata, when you are referring to something that is over cooked or over ripe, you pronounce it w/ a stress on the last syllable (ta)..Bisaya words can have the same name or spelling, but differs on how you pronounce them..😊❤️
Lata/de lata isn’t bisaya but Spanish
@@whitepouch0904 you are totally right! Absolutamente correcto
@@whitepouch0904 most of Filipino words are borrowed from Spanish since Philippines had been colonized of Spain for 400 years as per history😊
@@donmaranglerfishingadventu1640 doesn’t matter if it’s borrowed or not. My point is it is Spanish. If you googled Spanish of tin can the result shows LAta.
Good weather, yummy food masarap sardines noodles soup🍜🐟🥥😇🙏
I went to their place in Cateel with a friend last Sunday early morning....grabe layo ng place...from Manila to Davao Oriental via Butuan City...very very nice place though that day it was rainy and the sea was 'angry'...so we were not able to go near the water..😟....then I saw Mommy Rose and had a chat with her instead....what a feat on my part...one dream come true..thank God....
Oh my gosh, Kulas! I havent had tinapa (what we call sardinas) and odong since I was a kid! I think that dish is mostly Bisaya because in all my years here in Luzon (I was born and raised in Mindanao), I could never find odong anywhere in the supermarkets. I miss those noodles! It really is a reminder of childhood. 🥰 Thank you Kulas!
I can find it here in sari-sari store and palengke here in Laguna. Odong is from the Japanese word Udon and is popular not just in Vis-Min but also in Baguio.
Ang sarap nang Odong with sardines.isa yan sa na mimis ko sa aming probinsya.walang Odong dito sa aming area.meron siguro sa 3 hrs.drive pa.very nice karaoke.happy life Kulas.cheers!
Hi guys … de lata comes from a Spanish word which means “canned “that’s why Filipinos call it like that .Because of colonization Filipino learned much of Spanish word.
Watching from Tokyo .God bless us all.Keep safe always .
Odong soup is a classic recipe especially in Visayas and Mindanao.
Wow kulas I really miss Philippines, I'd been away from my country for a long time now and thanks for your posts I wish I'm there now. Love you kulas stay safe and Bret as well glad he's back in the Philippines
its just now that ur vlogs appeared on my suggested videos. and man, I so love these people who embraces our way of living specially the kind of culture that we have. I hope my fellow Filipinos appreciates the life we live through like you guys do because some Filipinos don't, sad to say. . Nonetheless, i love ur contents..
nothing to say here but keep on laughing when u sing kapayapaan while dancing too🤣🤣🤣🤣power on!
Kulas i think you should have a crash course with bret on how to get a coconut on a tree and how to open it. He is nailing it every time.
Hahaha! True, Bret is the action learner guy who wants to do it himself that’s why he is focusing on how to do it the right way. Kulas is a new learner when it comes to things like cooking and self serve feeding , lol 😆 never too late to learn each time- all the time!
Truth 😁
I'm all good... just did a one hour under the sun beach run so was exhausted hahah.
@@BecomingFilipino i see that's why. Power on man. Looking forward for fighter boys 2023
Nice song number Kulaaaas ❤️ That's one of my favorite song 👌 Kapayapaan Paweer 👌

Hello Kyle this is Chris from Cape Brett and Island Canada and I just want to say that I am super loving these latest Vlogs especially with you and Breton Island. All I actually found those same sardines at the Dollarama just a few minutes ago and that is in Canada and what's really weird is that the Vlog "8 miles from home" that live in another part of the Philippines that are from England had bought snacks at the store like the mango slices in like a bag and the oh yeah Snappeas chips snack that are like a chip now well they're absolutely delicious and found them at the dollarama in canada also..we have so many snacks that are also in Phillipines. Loving your vlogs for many years. Loving the Vibes..from cape breton Island canada 🇨🇦
Have an awesome day in Cap Breton, and thanks for the positive vibes!!! Nice one on the sardiness!!! whoaaa!!
Cracks me up every time I see Anselmo lying in the hammock. Super cute!!!
The bugs you were pointing out look like the stink bugs we have here in RI. At least that's what I thought they were when I first saw them before you called them stink bugs.
kulas, Bret, Kumar and h. engineer are positive life in cateel, keep safe and good health 💖💯💪 GOD BLESS
Does anyone agree with me that BRET & KULAS are SOOOO HANDSOME. Really great to see them embrace the Filipino culture and maybe someday they’ll both leave in the Philippines 🇵🇭 permanently🤍✨🫧🪅
Brett yes but I don’t about Kulas .lol just kidding
I dont think so with Bret he is favor in Mexican culture maybe Kulas well both of them get benefits in PH though if you know what i mean.
Kulas is a very good and kind person and he welcome everyone in his place.
Isa, You don't want them to leave the Philippines, but hopefully both will live in the Philippines permanently . . .
She means live not leave.
*CORRECTION:* Latâ (rotten/squished) and Lata (can) are pronounced very differently. Lata (can) is actually Spanish. "De lata" just means "of the can". The word can be used on its own (without the "de"). Again, remember that Philippine languages have a hidden consonant: the glottal stop. Latâ (rotten) ends in a glottal stop, whereas Lata (can) does not.
If you don't know what the glottal stop is, it's when the vowel is cut off abruptly. Like the middle sound in English "Uh-Oh". You also say it constantly in English, like when you say "Cat" but your mouth remains open at the end and your teeth don't actually touch your tongue to form a "T" sound (so it sounds like Ka'), you're actually making a glottal stop.
There are numerous examples of this. Where they look similar when spelled, but mean very different things when spoken. Where the stress is placed on the syllables is also important. Other examples in Bisaya
Basâ = Wet ; Basa = Read
Salô = To catch ; Salo = To share
Tulô = To drip ; Tulo = Three
Akò = Mine ; Ako = Me
Pasâ = Bruise ; Pasa = To pass
Tubò = To grow ; Tubo = Pipe ; Tubó = Sugarcane
Balâ = Inaccurate, Incompetent ; Bala = Bullet, ammunition
The main problem is that the Philippines does not normally write these accent marks. Since everyone already knows what they mean by context. They're only written in formal language books and whatnot. It is sometimes represented as a dash like in "to-o" ("to believe") or "pa-a" ("legs"), but only if they're in the middle of the word.
In other languages, the glottal stop is also usually not represented. In Japanese, for example, in which almost all words end in a glottal stop, it is not written down at all.
In Indonesian and Malaysian, the glottal stop is represented by a K at the end of the word. So Indonesian Datuk for example is pronounced exactly the same as Filipino Datù, both mean "chieftain".
In Polynesian languages, the glottal stop is represented as the ʻokina, which is like a reverse apostrophe. You can see this in the proper name of the main island Hawaiʻi, which is pronounced Hawai-ee.
well said
