- A restored cut, "Come O'er the Water to Charlie", from the 1966 LP, "Jesse Owens and Anne Byrne Sing Favorite Folk Ballads." The album also features instrumentals (fiddle and guitar) by Seamus Gallagher.
This is a Scottish song dating from the mid-1700's or earlier, with lyrics attributed to Robert Burns and with apparent references to the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. - Zábava
what a wonderful singer I grew up in the sixties loved these singers
Beautiful song. Lovely, lovely singing by Anne Byrne! Just a beautiful voice!
Sadly, Anne Byrne passed away in Ireland on the 28th of December 2020.
Anne leaves behind her husband Paddy Roche and two adult sons.
I know you are singing with the angels now.......we will miss you.
May you rest in peace Anne Byrne.
Very sorry to learn that Anne Byrne died. Sincere sympathy to her husband and sons. Anne's voice has not been matched by any female Irish voice. Her clear angelic voice has a quality that conveys a deep understanding of these grest songs. May Anne rest in peace.
yes she was gorgeous what a singer anyone know how to get this and other albums
When we were all a bit younger!
Lovely duet , lovely song
Great old song, great singing by both. But, I have always found it to have a bit of Jacobite propaganda in the lyrics , in that no parent alive would gladly lose all their sons in war even for a good cause. My sister Kathleen saw Jesse perform in Dublin in the 1970s and we later found an import LP from Ireland or the UK. Good stuff
Almost all the Jacobite songs were written in the 19th Century (when Jacobitism ceased to be politically relevant) and were meant to appeal to the romantic sensibilities of that time period.
Jesus is that a dog or a horse?
I think it's an Irish Wolfhound.
