Do whatever you think you want to do but remember that those platinum trophies are just digital achievements.
The real achievement is real life.
And the real thrill is to play the game for the fun, not only for completing the trophies.
Very interesting insights and you are right
I have been thinking about this a lot lately, and yeah, you're right man!!
I find that a platinum can bring out the best in a lot of games since you're doing literally everything but it can definitely make you hate the game too at times depending on what it is
Yeah I agree, if it’s a great game with a great list, perfect. If it’s a great game with a bad list it can definitely sour the experience or even make a bad game ten times worse
That's why I do 100% on very few games that I like the best. If the grind is unreasable and/or too difficult and stressful, I wont do it. Trophies should be a fun add on to a fun game. I hate what some devs do to some throphies.
@@meurer13daniel Yeah same, sometimes a bad trophy list can turn a great game into an absolute chore and ruins the experience if you're going straight for trophies
I agree
@@meurer13danielso u must hate platinum in souls game then for sure
I can’t go back now, trophies have become
Such a huge part of how I game. I’m ADHD and the trophies give me direction to keep me focused with clear goals and rewards. I get a lot more out of gaming now than ever before. Great vid as always 🤘
Forreal im pretty much addicted to trophy hunting now.
Yeah that’s fair enough, they do extend games and the purpose of them for me too
beautiful comment
I have Autism and trophies give me the goals and structure I crave. I am very troubled when I cannot platinum a game.
@@liamcdm3689 fair play
I love collecting trophies and I personally don;t see myself stopping soon but it's also great to pick up a game and just play it however you want to without having the trophy restrictions
balance is key bro
I definitely take breaks from trophy hunting time to time. I am not big on completion % so sometimes I even just play games on my playstation for multiplayer or even do challenge runs on games I already have the platinum for. Gaming at the end of the day is about personal enjoyment and I like that it gives us a purpose as you said.
Very well said
Oh man, that was so relatable! I agree with your points, as it's something I went trough as well. Playing without trophies can be so liberating, but I still miss something to work towards
yeah there is positive to both sides! i think playing with and without them is the way to go
I absolutely agree. Trophies give me an extra purpose and it feels great.
They do!
You make some great points. I have around 200 Plats I think at this point. I’be been getting trophies since PS3 in 2009. But I must say that I’m on the way out as far as trophy hunting goes. I’m enjoying games a lot less. I’m leaning more toward Nintendo Switch as well. I tend to have more fun on that console and I think some of it was the fact that there are no trophies. I’m having more fun than ever now since I’ve stopped going after Plats.
I feel this. Sometimes I want to shift gears and lately I’ve gotten really into Animal Crossing (late to the party I know) but man I’ve been loving my time with that and I’ve been doing an equal balance of that along with my trophies. Really love my switch for this. Sometimes too getting home from work I want to play something but I don’t have the energy to sit at my desk and do something that requires a reasonable amount of brain power: my switch is an excellent alternative to this.
That's sad all I heard was I am above 30 and I want to live God damnit ! XD nah been there, I been a trophy hunter too but the joy of just playing something for fun is true joy, good for you!
Yes man massive pros and cons to both
I got no trophy for the last 33 days.
Started Forza Motorsport (Xbox Classic) 3rd Nov & Cookie Clicker (PC) 13th Nov
and I don't miss it to earn trophies.
For the future I want to play my favorite franchises like Project Gotham Racing, DiRT,
Ride, Gran Turismo, Gears of War, Guitar Hero, Rock Band and many more.
Honestly I've slowly dropped trophies myself tbh. Like I'm not going to deny it's weird no longer having direction of how to tackle stuff but It also feels alot more relieving not worrying about numbers such as completion
yeah both sides can be weird, if you're enjoying gaming that is all that matters
Well said, I especially relate to the concept of purpose.
Thanks man :)
Burnout has been real this year so I’ve been taking a break until December! Def feel more casual again and will likely just go for platinums I really want. Never too pressed about my completion list
Oh man burnout can really creep up on you
I've recently been playing on my Steam account do to Dead By Daylight's platinum trophy list draining me despite being 10 trophies away from platinum completion, similar to you saying not worrying about trophies its nice to just relax with a game on a different platform where everyone doesn't expect us to keep going higher for our accounts. So vaguely get what you mean :)
Firstly I'd like to say great video! I find myself in most of the things that you have mentioned.
I find that whenever I have gotten a platinum trophy I got the most out of my game. It depends on the game of course, but I have that with most games. It also brings me back to games that I love, but haven't gotten the platinum for. Bloodborne is an example of that. Still need to get that plat.
thanks! Bloodborne is a great platinum!
I feel you on quitting trophy hunting. I'm constanly worrying about adding more games to my list from my backlog even though I'm super hyped to play them but the trophies are either to hard or the game's too long (examples are Shadow of War, Bioshock Trilogy, Darksiders Trilogy). And then I end up playing a game I don't lik as much just for the trophies.
Still love trophy hunting but it's sometimes getting on my nerves
You don't have to get literally ever platinum you can
I used to be that way, yeah, if I started a game, I needed to finish it and get all of them. Made me burnout and start getting stressed, which is the exact opposite reason of why I game. Now I go for the games I really love, but if it stresses me out, I just don't let it bother me. Started Cuphead today and popped three trophies. Will give it a good try, but honestly, I do not think my reflexes are up to the task, lmao.
It must be so freeing to play games without trophies but I feel as though I'm so far down the trophy rabbit hole that something would feel off if I wasn't earning trophies. There's pro's & con's on both sides though. This was an interesting topic Lewis. Great video mate! :)
it really was mate!
If you're following a guide right out of the gate then in my opinion, you are just in it for the trophies. Which is fine (I did that for a while) but in my opinion it kinda sucks the fun out of it real quick. I always go through games first and enjoy it for what it is, then go for trophies if I so wish. At my own pace now.
Sounds like a good way to game
I've been playing several retro games this year as in Mega Drive and PS1 games. While doing so one of the perks I've found is that I don't have to worry about missing collectables or playing on challenging difficulty levels etc. I'm going through GEX 3D Enter the Gecko for example at the moment and it's nice to just be able to play through it very casually and not be concerned with fulfilling side objectives and whatnot. In some cases as well with these older games they haven't held up very well by todays standards so having to multiple playthroughs would be a pain. I finished up with Overblood a while back and it would have been painful should I have needed to play it any more than I did (which I perhaps would have needed to do had trophies been involved).
Can't agree with this more. Trophies/Achievements have been a huge part of my gaming experience since I was a teenager and I'm so particular with which games I add to my main account, always wondering not only will I even have the time to complete it, do I believe I have the skillset to actually do so? Whereas Pokemon as a series has been my wind-down and relax games, even if my OCD completionist mentality refuses to let me play without finishing the Pokedex, to the point where I even go overboard and do a full Living Dex in every game. Thank CHRIST the Switch never added their own trophy system, since I can actually just enjoy playing without the stress of grinding or meticulously planning playthroughs on certain games. Like if there was a trophy list for Breath of the Wild, I would've driven myself absolutely batshit 😅 Great video! Just recently found your channel a couple of days ago, you seem super cool and I'm midway through binging your backlog of content. Also always nice to see a fellow completionist to make me feel less insane on how I play my games 😬😆
I still love going for trophies, but I stopped going for the really easy 10 minute to an hour trophies at the end of 2019. I made goals for myself and it’s been really fun. 2020 was all about knocking off the backlog and I completed I think 55-60 games in my backlog. And this year I wanted to add some more respectable platinums to my account and got them for Civ 6, DS 3, bloodborne, death stranding and more! But I also stopped looking at my completion rating on PSN profiles and looked at it like a gaming journal that goes back to 2009 and it’s cool to see the growth in what I’ve played!
Awesome to hear! I did the same and I’ve not looked back
honestly i agree with all the pros and cons you talked about man awesome vid too, for me Trophies give a sense of an end goal and other things to push for than just the satisfaction of completing a game, they can drive you to push for things you wouldn't normally go for (although this can be good and bad in some games lol) for me now Trophy hunting has become a game in itself, i feel the concept of being able to track all your gaming feats through trophies gives you a feeling that your experiences in them games haven't been lost to the void and other players can see what games you have played and experienced through them rewards
yeah man so rewarding but also such a burden at times as well
@@PlatinumBro the burden is when 80% of the trophy list is fun and enjoyable and the other 20% makes you question your sanity lol
@@omegahimura3743 oh yeah man for sure.
I’ll normally just play the game through however I want first time round and then bother with platinum after if it’s easy enough and good enough. Won’t normally go into a game thinking I’m doing the plat on my first run
Researching games for missables and how many playtroughs. Making a blank account for trying out games. Working towards trophies, having mundane tasks in other word grind to achieve anything. If you think about it, these are often the reasons many people stop collecting trophies, they somehow mess with your mind and not having them can give you anxiety just like an addiction. When I stopped collecting it was very hard for me to ignore the trophy list so I can totally relate if some people need them to have some kind of purpose when playing.
I 100% agree man. Some of the tasks to get trophies are just a massive waste of time
Trophies are the NFT of gaming.
I will say this, since the ps3 era when trophies were introduced I have been hooked on trophies to the point I didnt Care for games with no trophies, I didnt feel I earned a sort of satifice of a game, but now I Can enjoy just about alot of games like Pokemon and Mario
I generally can't be bothered to play something without trophies now. The satisfaction of earning them has become tied to my gaming experience. I have the same desire that you described to be working toward something, even in my hobbies. I'm not too fussed about having the perfect 100% account though, so when a game is asking for unreasonable amounts of time, extra playthroughs, or I'm just tired of the game, I will move on without agonizing over my completion percentage. My current completion percentage is 72% but I do want to work that up to about 80-85% and keep it there. I have a bunch of games at 1-10% that I started out for one reason or another and need to go back and actually give them proper attention. This includes some big titles like RDR2, Ghosts of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3, Hollow Knight, etc. Currently working on Skyrim which was at 1% from April until November and now is 40%.
Yeah man it’s so important to feel like you’re achieving something
I just play any game I find interesting (I prioritize it being good above everything else), and I always try to get the platinum, even if it's 9/10, sometimes I abandon them for some time if I get frustrated, but always try to come back and try again. Nowadays I'm struggling with Shadow Warrior.
You do whatever makes you happiest. Trophy hunting should be something that makes you happy , doing it for the trophies and not for the pride and happiness of earning trophies is always wrong.
Very well said!
I see a PlatinumBro video and I hit “like.”
My hero
I had to make a new account to begin my trophy hunting journey bc my 8 year old account had SOOO many multiplayer games thats platinums have been disabled bc shutdowns. Basically all sports games. Was a complete eyesore to me as well as critically attacking the completion %
I never owed ps3 i was 360 guy I wasn’t giving rat ass about achievements but when i got my PS4 I couldn’t help myself not going for platinums until this day i feel like some single player games are waste of time to play them without trophies z
Fair play I went through the same thing
Earning trophies is always something I enjoy doing it was my whole childhood back on the grind and working on #160 💪
Same here!
Hey Lewis, do you have the seires x? Been trying to get one myself but sold out everywhere and people are selling them for £600 upwards :(
I REALLY WANT ONE! i still can’t get one
I got burnt out on trophy hunting after I finally got the Vanquish platinum (platinum 50 and trophy 4000). After finally scaling that mountain (challenge 6 took me over 400 tries), it's just been kind of downhill from there.
Well done man no doubt that would be tough
It was, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Such a superb game with such a monumental challenge to cap off the platinum with. Any platinum I got after that (RE8, Horizon FW, even Elden Ring) didn't come close to that level of satisfaction I got from the Vanquish platinum.
if you haven't played Vanquish yet, I can't recommend it enough. Even if you don't go for the platinum.
I game on pretty much everything but I mostly play on PS4 and PC. Switch has some good games as well. I love trophy hunting but it can be nice to just play a game without having to worry about trophies. More relaxing that way and prob a better first playthrough in alot of games. My frequent PC play as well as the fact I don't have PS+ for online trophies is why I have so few platinums. Or at least alot of the reason. Despite this I am proud of what I have and am always up for more.
Yeah I agree with your points 100%. I’m not that obsessed with my PSNProfiles page so I’m fine with playing a game, getting every trophy I can and then putting it down until I wanna go back to it and clean it up, so it’s not as freeing to just buy a new game and play it. It kinda makes it feel a little pointless without trophies. Like, if Pokemon Brilliant Diamond had trophies I’d have beaten it by now. I got it day 1 and haven’t played since the day after because I started The Last Of Us on the playstation. It’s also effort to swap my HDMi’s over to play the switch instead so I don’t put that effort in and I’ve found many switch games I haven’t beaten because of that
it can be rough and have a negative impact on gaming sometimes
For me personally I have to enjoy the game first then I will go the extra mile for the platinum… I have a big backlog 😅✌️
Loving the content 👍
That’s the best way to play
I’m on a decent amount of platinums 769 but I got bored of it with all of the easy cash grab platinums, And now I still platinum games I like and have fun on, But I can game without worrying about trophies aswell by just playing the story and enjoying the story/Visuals
Whats ur psn If u dont mind i wanna check ur plats :)
@@ahmetemirgulcan2405 I got a lot of garbage tbf from ratalkaia games etc I got a load free in November returned to them then thought what am I doing lol. BillyB-1996
Trophy hunting for me is like a personal goal I like to do in my free time like reaching a certain numbers of plat or becoming top 100 in my country
Awesome all the best with your goals :)
In terms of gaming going for trophies are very fun. But when you compare it to life problems you find that trophies take up a significant amount of time which could be used to develop other skills. But too much of everything is bad for you
hey i was a big trophy hunter my self i got to round 282 then got bunt out not done trophy hunting for about 2 years i do miss it plus i was on psnprofiles got banned from it 5 years back for having 2 glicth games done that i unlock thew tophys lol back in 2012
I used to trophy hunt during the 360 era but after realizing that i ended up hating the games that i tried to complete with trophies i decided to limit myself to unlock stuff that has an impact in game and only for the games that i care enough. Btw What game is being played at 0:42?
remnant from the ashes - masterpiece
I also have xbox but for me to chase 1000 gamerscore on every game is a huge grind
oh yeah big time
To be honest I'm not trophy hunter but after I finished Gravity Rush on my PS VITA and trying to hunting some trophies on this game, I love it right away
Did you get the plat?
I mainly trophy hunt on the PS Vita. I have less free time for video games nowadays especially with school and work. Plus, a lot of online trophies don't age well.
Wow that’s pretty retro
I try to stick with only games I really
Like. And first time through a game I don’t focus on trophies.
Best way to be buddy
I've quit gaming full stop 2 weeks in and not missing it. Trophy hunting became an obsession missed gaming for the sake of entertainment. I will be back soon but no longer chasing artificial rewards.
Fair enough if you’re happy buddy
Yeah man I only platinum what I want anymore I can’t do all of them sometimes I just want to enjoy the game without the trophy grind
nice man
personaly I only play my switch at the moment I retired from trophy hunting will still get the ocasional plat but at the moment switch is my ony gaming system
Fair play bro if that’s what you enjoy, I’m enjoying my switch
@@PlatinumBro yeah I dislike the hardware a lot
but the libary is what kills it for me every week multiple games seem to come out that I would want
Haven't touched my ps5 in 3 months but I platinum games that I really enjoy only now
playing a different console?
@@PlatinumBro no only own ps5 but haven't cared for the games in 2021 forbidden west I'll get for sure though
I only platinum games that I really enjoy fx. GoW, Horizon DW, Uncharted, Lego games, Gravity Rush etc. and the games that, while still great like Red Dead, GTA, TLOU I find myself not caring about the platinums
awesome to hear my friend
I only play playstation however, SMTV is swaying me towards a switch.... trophy hunting has many positives also many negatives. There is self pressure to plat games and many have ridiculous grinds. Since having kids, time is sparse and the pull of casual gaming without that nagging need to platinum a game or keep a high completion percentage is strong. I'm done with the leaderboards though, it's even hard to break top 2k in the UK without grubs.
This is my issue too. The problem is I keep thinking about trophies and how great some PS4 games are with them but then again I play some classic PS1 games on my Android phone emulated for free which without trophies feels so much more better and realistic to my situation of also having kids. I'm also like I can't ignore my kids to play while with my phone or even switch I'm able to play without the tv or waiting for them to sleep. I feel emulation on a phone or PC is the best thing for me right now
I like my Switch lite (Special pokemon edition ;)) but I wish Nintendo would implement a trophy system.. Been trophy hunting for a decade and it just makes me try things I never would try or explore parts of the game I would have missed. I never used to try to challenge myself with higher difficulties before trophies either. Would like some shiny awards for beating Zelda or Smash Bros. or Ultimate Alliance 3. Would like even more if Sony bought up Nintendo and won the Japanese gaming war.
interesting, I am really not that bothered about trophies on the switch tbh
I feel I enjoy the trophies more when you don’t have to do multiple play throughs god of war did it the best by having you do everything in the game one time around and earn the play. Once I’ve seen the story I find it hard to care about going through a game a second time
Good for you..
thanks :)
Tbh I just play games I like and plat the ones I love, I play my switch more than PlayStation now
Good balance mate
I've always had a love / hate relationship with trophies, I love collecting them and seeing my platinums, but when I'm wrapping a rubber band around my controller to angle the analog stick forward and then leaving my PlayStation on for hours... I begin to loathe trophies hahahahaha
hahaha so true, I am becoming more selective with trophies I choose to go for
After getting my PS3 in 2011 I can't play any other console! I bought a Switch in 2017 and have put less than 10 hours into it lol. Trophies are way too enjoyable.
lol yeah trophies are awesome, I’ve only put about 30 hours into my switch over the past 5-6 weeks
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with trophies, as long as they’re actually rewarding. If it requires grinding or collectible hunting for hours, then I feel less inclined to do so. Playing a game should feel relaxing. It shouldn’t feel like a task.
One thing that people don't realize is that Assist Features makes Trophy Hunting pointless since developers are now allowing them to be earned with what's technically Cheat Codes.
It does help with a lot of games but I’ve only played a few with them. TLOU had a collectible guide in the PlayStation which I think is a great idea since collectibles are ass anyways
@PlatinumBro Stuff like that is fine but having invincibility isn't.
what is your psn name? You talk about trophies but i am curious what you have
My psn is Lewywilko93 :)
I only play PlayStation.
Im not really into any other consoles but PlayStation! And Trophies make it better for me aswell :)
Awesome to hear buddy :)
I'm curious, did you ever feel 'guilty' when you had free time to play and you weren't earning any trophies to your account. I hear this from people who've had breaks from trophy hunting saying they've had a nagging feeling creep in that in the time they've been spending gaming elsewhere they could have had another couple platinums in that time-frame.
Ermmm yeah a little bit buddy
I see getting all the achievements the same as getting an platinum, so i am surprised he felt so different with Xbox games (switch of course) lol. I am an achievement hunter myself
because I went in with a NO ACHIEVEMENTS mindset, they are very similar but I bought the console to free myself from them
Yeah I stopped trophy hunting the past month as well. I'm knocking games from my backlog in a pretty good pace, but I do miss the trophy popping ngl xD Will probably get back into it in winter break.
Trophies are awesome for games you really want to invest in. For games you start and quickly realize you don't care about, they're a completionist's Kryptonite.
well said
I am so addicted to trophy hunting that I can't focus on games without them. It's sort of ruined other games for me sadly.
Oh that’s a shame
I blame Pokemon Red for my ADHD in gaming. Got all 151 even going up to Bristol to get Mew.
that is incredible, how do you even get mew?
@@PlatinumBro they had these special events where you could trade with the Mew machine any pokemon for Mew. They gave out a bunch of other freebies like Pokemon cards as well. Went to a different event in Weston Super Mare and got a free Mew Pokemon card.
Dude I don't know why some trophy owners take it so seriously I have a 134 platinums I just play games if I get a platinum I get a platinum I have plenty of games where there's 1%
some people including me can be a bit obsessive with it for better or worse
I’m a bit late but I grew up with Nintendo and not I refuse to play/don’t see a point to play because there’s no trophies
Oh the irony
Oh that’s a shame there is more to gaming than just PlayStation

Yeah they really do. Yeah it was a little click bait but I gotta do what I gotta do
lol stopped trophy huting for the msot part at lvl 666 I approve:P
pokemon unite I wouldnt play too long if I where you i quit the game due to always losing due to shitty braindead teammates who dont even know that in a teamfight when its 5 vs 2 in your advantage with about equal health (3 are dead already) you dont run away but finish them off
and I have tons of games like that I can fairly state half my losses where due to shitty teams
i've not lost a game yet (subtle flex) haha

You sure miss them when they're not there, like an addict without their fix.
Saying that, it's liberating albeit feeling without direction.
I changed my perspective on PlayStation Trophies over the past several months and simply abandoned my completion percentage, I no longer care if I get 1% or 100%, and it feels so much better!! 🤘🙌
Yeah I think that’s the direction I should really go for a better gaming balance too
@@PlatinumBro It could be though depending on how deep your completionist nature runs, but maybe try doing that on games you will Plat anyway, and see how you feel leaving them on 1% for a while.
I actually recorded a video on my experience through these months, highs and lows, outcome etc. not due til after the next one though, may help explain the feelings better.
All in all though, I'm having a lot more fun and feel unshackled!
@FatalPies I feel ya, I hope one day you can control those compulsions somewhat and not care as much :)
I only play Playstation. I honestly can't afford to buy other consoles AND games. Plus, Xbox doesn't really have anything that interests me that I cant get on Playstation. With the exception of Hellblade 2. Now that one pisses me off.
halo and gears of war man
I feel the same about the switch I want to play it more but I just think god I wish this had trophies or something and games that are available for both I instantly pick ps because of trophies. I'm not even a completionist but just looking through my backlog looking at what I could work towards gives me that goal where the switch doesn't.
Same man so much. I got breath of wild on sale like 2 months ago and got switch maybe 4-5 months ago but haven't played much cause I play older systems emulated on my Android phone like PS1 And also PS4. Oddly enough I have more trouble on wanting to play PS4 with trophies or older game consoles on my Android phone which is even more convenient than switch (shit the Asus ROG phone with 16 or 18 GB ram which is even more than PS5 can emulate Metroid dread and that just came out not long ago)
I can't decide to stay with almost any game free at my disposal vs PS4 with trophies. Another consideration is ps Vita which when hacked can still earn trophies on Vita games you downloaded for free
I enjoy getting trophies
Me too bro
There are so many guides out there that people watch to get the platinum so where's the fun in that?

I have no problems with trophies per se, but a huge proportion of them take no skill to acquire other than pointlessly doing some irrelevant nonsense that takes up a huge a
mount of time. Bashing dummies all over the map and bowing to sign posts in Horizon Zero Dawn comes to mind. Get rid of these pointless and dumb trophies then we would have a good system.
100% agree bro
