I have a hearing loss so it is almost unbelievable to understand how anyone could create anything that beautiful without being able to hear it. And so sad that he wasn't able to hear the audience applauding.
He had the understanding of music theory and harmonization pre-hearing loss. So it isn’t inconceivable that he could create beautiful works. Musicians hear things in their mind first before hearing it on an instrument.
Or hear his own music.
The Ode to Joy scene that Gina describes is beautifully depicted in “Copying Beethoven” (Ed Harris, Diane Kruger) . Worth seeking out.
I prefer "Immortal Beloved". ❤
I always thought it might be due to his father boxing his ears too much and too hard. This is such a huge discovery in the world of music. Thank you for reporting on this!! 💞 He was, to me, the most amazing and best composer of all time. And he was completely deaf for much of his life. A-MAZ-ING.
I ❤ Beethoven
Positive. For heavy metal, lol
Wow. This is just incredible.
It a wonder any of our ancestors surrvived long enough to pass DNA forward.
Things like pewter drinking mugs and lead crystal glasses (since the 1700s) certainly didn't help.
03:14. The Ninth's premiere was not conducted by Beethoven. He was unable to do it.
"Although the performance was officially directed by Michael Umlauf, the theatre's Kapellmeister, Beethoven shared the stage with him. However, two years earlier, Umlauf had watched as the composer's attempt to conduct a dress rehearsal for a revision of his opera Fidelio ended in disaster. So this time, he instructed the singers and musicians to ignore the almost completely deaf Beethoven. At the beginning of every part, Beethoven, who sat by the stage, gave the tempos. He was turning the pages of his score and beating time for an orchestra he could not hear." (Wikipedia, supported by multiple contemporary and academic sources.)
Also, the alto singer Caroline Unger is credited as the one who made Beethoven to turn around to watch the ovations.
That scene is depicted in "Immortal Beloved" (my fave movie of all time), though it slightly changes a couple details.
They say Beethoven could hear out of his left ear a little, leading up to his death. 🤷
There is a really great and moving movie named "Copying Beethoven " in which he is struggling whilst composing the "Ninth Symphony ". He is joined by a young aspiring composer named Anna to help him finish this masterpiece which is performed towards the end of the movie. Anna is the one who grabbed his arm to turn around and see a rapturous audience applause. For anyone interested, this is a very moving and beautiful movie.
Sad 😢
Wow, MSNBC is really on top of the news 300 years later.
2 more minutes until a Trump update
Yes, terrible that they didn't conduct this DNA testing when he died in 1827.
I can't believe that people care this much about some dead guy. We have more important things we should be worried about.
How very sad!!
In that day lead was widely used in everyday dining ware and also plumbing. The Homeopathic remedy from lead describes these exact symptoms.
I strongly suspect that much of the madness of the past few centuries can be attributed to heavy metal toxicity. May we all learn to be less toxic, both literally and figuratively. Respectfully submitted.
Fascinating
👍
Lead is such a heavy cross to bear when you are a rock and roll hipster with chicks a plenty looking for a place to sneak off and imbibe of all those most passionate fruits, sweet to the taste and refined to eternally fascinate he who would never release thy bosom might he have one foot in his grave, and one hand for the teet of freedom firmly attached to the very soul itself. 🎻🎹🎸🎺🎷📯🎹🎻🎺🎷📯
When looking back at the most prestigious Artists/Painters/Sculptors/composers Etc. You'll findout that most of them suffered from some form of disability/pain. And by creating their masterpiece, was their way of releasing that pain, even if it was for a short second. 🤷
who's been spending their time wondering about this besides nobody, ever?
And yet here you are, watching and commenting.
I’ve got one question
Is student loan forgiveness given before or after death to America?
I just watched a team of dudes and a Shetland pony plow out Stormy's backdoor. She's such an inspiring actor/actress/act-person. Definitely a class act.
Democrats have no moral compass
i like when trump jr was telling about taking a shower with trump then he dropped the soap and picked it up, and he said daddy called him a good boy.
Beethoven would have wanted trump in prison but today they all are scared of trump.
Stormy Daniels had a Zoom call with Beethoven last month.
Yes just what we needed reporting on
Why _shouldn't_ it be reported on? Beethoven is one of the world's greatest composers - it's newsworthy.
I’ve had time to get over it
News!😂😂😂😂

No evidence of any crime yet 😂😂
Sounds like 45s trials. No evidence. Just making up things as they go

Donald trump will be In court next month for this
Probably. Briben the cheat
I'm shocked they didn't blame it on Trump. Or Putin
All this music stuff is too uplifting. Is there anyway we can get back to the 24/7 x 9 year long MSNBC Trump advent calendar. I have a little time to modify it again. 🤷
I'm sorry, could you repeat that?
I thought it was climate change
No. According to demokkkrats climate change caused the eclipse
No, climate change is the thing started by evil rich Republicans driving gas guzzling SUVs around 5000 BC
Not just wrong but outright lies.
The story of Beethoven conducting while being completely deaf and needing to be "tugged" to turn around is completely false. That's the fictional scene that was in the movie "Immortal Beloved." It NEVER happened in real life. By the time his 9th was written it was a well known fact by everyone that he was stone deaf. He had been using conversation books for years at that point.
And NO ONE other than 2-3 close friends EVER got a lock of Beethoven's hair while he was alive. But at his funeral his coffin was mobbed by fans that literally shaved his corpse's head bald STEALING any of hair that they could get their hands on.
One detail MSNBC sort of got right was the use of lead. Lead was used widely for drinking goblets, plates that people ate off of, utensils for eating, containers for food and drink. Lead was cheap and VERY easy to get and work to make items people used every day. It something made of lead broke it was easy to fix. And most people did not wash all that often. And those that did wash their hands before eating simply poured cold water over their hands then used either their clothes or whatever cloth was available to dry them. IF they bothered to dry them at all.
Read your Solomon if you really care to know about Beethoven.
What ? Huh?
Someone needs to study Trumps hair.
He might be the last Neanderthal.
Says a corrupt cannibal supporter
well he doesn't have a brain to study.
