dt, nice fish, but you should use your lock on your reel. You could have easily landed a basking that size in under 10 minutes if you locked your reel. Its a small fish, so you don't even have to worry about it breaking your setup. Even if its a big fish, just unlock your reel.
I wasn't experience for the fight. Was told to not stop the boat on big fish plus was afraid of locking while trolling as I know it can cause more pressure then not trolling. I could be wrong. But willing to give this another try. Do I lock right away to test the to see if it's a big fish or not. This is a 181kg max weight can do cause of leader but from experience with other fishlike the taimen. I could not full lock trophy with a 82kg line. Almost broke me. so a 74kg would probably be equivalent to a 115kg fish pulling?
whenever the fish pulls drag, you should lock your reel. when it gets into the red, unlock and then relock. tr taimen on 82kg line is a completely different story, the fish isnt equivalent to anything@@DaveTormala

Why wouldn’t you lock it ?
I was kind of new to the locking part at that time. I do full lock now on any fish that is pulling drag..

I know I wasn't sure to lock cause of the though of locking on a 150kg+ fish. I should of to test it but didn't my fault I know. I will remember to it this way next time. I usually lock instantly when fighting fish not trolling. Don't know why didn't do it then. Maybe cause when trolling on arch and hooking into a sturgeon. I tried locking then and it broke off. Thank you all for the support. I will lock more next time.
Not to mentioned.. lesson learned. I has to spend 1300+ silver just for fb repairs. grease repairs and ball bearings. This was already damage. My fb went from 3 or 5% to 21% dmg..
