I do celestial navigation, and the lines are always straight except when drawing the away/toward arc. LOSs are always straight; observations, however, are adjusted due to atmospheric divergence.
*GRAAAVITY* ... sorry, couldn't resist! ;-)
The fact you were able to move your line of sight from kylie Minogue to Oakley shows how badly the Flat earthers affected you :)

Hahaha 🤣 that makes perfect sense, something that's definitely alien to Oakley.
I take much comfort in Nathan Oakley financially spiraling down the drain.
I can only imagine how ashamed his wife must be of him. After all this time, he must be lucky if he clears £100 a month from his 'merch'. I would guess far less than that.
It's what he deserves after all the crap he's pulled to scam people.
It couldn’t happen to a more offensive prick!
Would you take even more comfort if N.O. was _literally_ spiraling down a drain? 😁

Nokely's main key to arguing his position is to lie at every opportunity.
His other keys to arguing are:

- Be obnoxious.
- Be vulgar.
- Don't listen.
- Silence anyone that proves him wrong.
- Ignore facts.
- Assume anyone that believes his claims are imbeciles.
@Mr. Sensible - you made one MAJOR error. At 8:17 you say "eye level". According to the Flat Earth Dictionary, "level" means flat and not elevation so therefore "eye level" would mean a person's eye is flat.
Nathan: "Does this mean I'm going to have to get a real job? Yikes!"
Good luck with that. Many employers now review an applicant's social media profile. If I were hiring manager for a business, he would get the old "Rejected" stamp the second I saw his.
He would be eminently qualified for Monty Python’s Argument Sketch if that were a real thing.

Ooops.
Ah but, he dosn't have to explain what that means but it doesn't mean that....
Well caught. But we know flat earthers are active all over the globe so it should not be a surprise.
*Question:* _"What do you call it when you show Nathan Oakley where he is wrong about line-of-sight being straight with a sextant?"_
*Answer:* _"Dip Correction."_
"... and also below contempt." Freaking brilliant, Mr. S!
Thank you Mary
Name dropping and Bevtardian tactics. Oakley truly is getting desperate.
Mike "Little Buddy" Jones, is a very special person. He keeps having a problem with me. Apparently my feet are pointing the wrong way. I dont know about that, here is Australia we just stand on the ground just like everybody else. The harnesses do help.
Naaaaah...faeryland Australia does NOT exist,remember?
You all a NASA paid actors.
According to Flatters you all must be rich beyond belief,YEO thinks NASA owns the money of the world!
Of course, you and the rest of the Wolf Pack don't really exist. You just think you do. But actually you're CGI.
If you go back through flat earth videos, you will find at least some flerfers who really do think lines of sight can be curved.
It is their explanation for the bottom parts of distant objects being hidden.
The one thing I've realised with the death of flerfdom recently is the only thing the ones still in it have left is a need for some serious medication.
It's almost like the loss in income is making them incredibly angry. Wonder why that is.
It's a tough choice between them needing medication or simply being euthanized. God knows simply trying to neuter them doesn't work.
Remember that Nathan Oakley is unable to predict the motions of celestial objects, because he hasn't got a working model. Without a model, Oakley would be unable to explain why the moon doesn't change in shape, or apparent size, between rising & setting. Without a model, Oakley would be unable to explain why constellations maintain shape, and apparent size, between rising & setting. Because he hasn't got a model, Oakley doesn't even know where the sun goes at night.
Nathan Oakley can't produce a model of the flat Earth (obviously) so he has to pretend that models have no place in reality ("the model isn't the thing"). This way he thinks he has sidestepped the problem. Too bad normal thinking people understand that a model that can accurately predict events, eclipses in this case, but so many other things like occultations, seasons, etc., it is most likely an accurate representation of reality. No model is perfect in detail of course, but the principles behind it are.
Nathan Oakley likes to pretend that he doesn't know the shape of the Earth but in arguing against the use of sextants on a curved Earth but affirming that sextants can only be used to navigate on a flat surface, that is exactly what he is doing. Leaving all of Oakley's sextant shennanigans and irrelevancies aside and despite his assertions, he can't even show how a sextant on a flat Earth can be used to navigate.
@@chrisantoniou4366 Given the overwhelming quantity of contradictory evidence, Nathan Oakley's assertions are utterly ridiculous. Level Earth Observer is another example of this senseless denialism. It doesn't matter how much contradictory evidence is presented to LEO, he always claims that there is no contradictory evidence. LEO doesn't even understand the meaning of the word 'level', as he assumes that level has the same meaning as flat.
These Flat Earthers fail to comprehend the need for evidence, in order to substantiate their claims of a conspiracy. The fact that Flerfs aren't even sufficiently intellectually disciplined to understand the need for evidence, in order to substantiate their claims, infers that they are either poorly educated, or just plain stupid.
That was well explained. TC Oakley will never agree that you are correct unless he receives a regular income based on his apparent beliefs.
Good video Mr S.
the demonstration was simple and clear however Mike and Nathan won’t understand it still. You aimed it at 7 year olds and that’s way to advanced for them.
Also sleeping warrior in a recent community post managed to debunk celestial navigation on a flat earth by stating that they can’t account for perspective. They insist perspective has to be accounted for when observing things, so where are their perspective correction tables🤷♂️
One day you can upset Nathan by telling him that light from the star is also refracted. Then you can really upset him by telling him we know how much it is refracted because we measured it. But don't tell him how.
I took the bait and clicked :-) Thanks for all the great videos Mr Sensible!
If the earth is flat, then you and Scimandan can just stand on your rooftops and use semaphore to communicate. No cell phones needed.
9:40 Nathan is beneath everything. Nothing is below him.
Excellent demonstration, though one cannot help wishing you had taken the opportunity to use some cheese. Emmental has straight edges, if it’s cut properly, or perhaps even the humble Cheddar. Edam would be no use because, as we all know, it is made backwards.
Cheddar humble? No sir, it is the Prince of cave-aged cheeses!
If you shout loud enough, the laws of physics change.
I dropped a comment on a recent video of his: _It was smashing to see that Ranty's channel has just topped your subscriber count. He has been getting millions of views also. I guess you have passed on your congratulations._
Strangely, Mr Oakley missed my comment. There is a whopping 48 comments on there, so I can maybe see why he might have missed it.
Why is Oakley so angry? Maybe he's an angry person that's been shown his world view doesn't work. Sad.
"Welcome to the club" - Vladimir Putin.
He’s just angry at being such a failure: as a husband; as a human being; as a provider; as a clever person…….he is none of these.
It's so damn sad that there are people so dumb that this needs to be explained to them. This is grade school level stuff. I often think that these flerfs were exactly those kids who sat in the back of the class and literally ignored every single thing that the teachers said, never read the books, and got report cards that were entirely full of F's, and yet wore that as a badge of honor. There was at least ONE of these kids in EVERY class. And seriously. I don't know how these people managed to be passed along, and even got out of high school with this... minimal to complete non-understanding of the world.
Oakley knows all this - he's a conman, not a complete idiot. The people who pay him money and believe the tosh he tells them - they're the complete idiots.
I think those flerfs all rode the short bus to school together and that sucker landed in a ditch every single day because the driver was a dumbass flerf as well and they never actually made it to class xD
The thing that disc defenders don't like to bring up, or most likely don't understand, is atmospheric refraction is not dependent upon the shape of the Earth, it is a product of there being a density gradient. If the Earth was flat they would also have to account for it in celestial navigation in order to calculate the true position of the star. They would still have a "curvy line" to the object!
Indeed, They are unable to see the irony.
Well, it's a _bit_ dependent on the shape. After all the density gradient curves with the earth, so refraction has to be affected. But yes, you'd have refraction either way, it's just a bit different.
@@nagranoth_ Yes, the amount of refraction would be affected, however, it wouldn't change that refraction would still occur. This still requires a pressure gradient, which is something which goes against Mr Oakley's claims of requiring a container.
@@eadwulfslecgwyrhta3015
Snell's law too.
The shallow angle of incidence near the horizon causes the most refraction while a target at 90° has none.
@@jimsmith7212 Snell's law is great if you have vastly different media but doesn't really work that well with atmosphere, however, I guess we could use it to check if their dome exists 🤣
Kylie Minogue once told me that she can't get me out of her head, all my lovin is all she thinks about, it's more than she dares to think about.
The good news is that these two bad liars have been spanked. The bad news is that they enjoy it.
Right at the begging of oakley's vid, when he's talking about angles, you can see clearly that the change of angle is not proportional to the the base of the triangle. I mean you can see it with the naked eye let alone how obvious it should be to anyone who's taken high school trig. This matters because the distance to a stars gp is proportional to the angle that the star is above the horizion. That change in angle is caused by the curve of the earth, not the increasing base of the triangle the way oakley demonstrates. the base of the triangle is negligible since the stars are so far away.
That's a huge contention with certain flerfs who claim sextant sights use trigonometry to solve the triangle.
No trigonometry is applied.
@@jimsmith7212 Well, considering there is plane trigonometry, which is not applicable , but all the angles and distances in sextant use are derived using spherical trigonometry, you've got to be more specific.
@@paulcrumley9756
When using a sextant for the most common method of determining the Circle of Equal Altitude, spherical trigonometry is not used, it's purely geometry.
Specifically the "Theorems and postulates of parallel lines intersected by a transversal", where
corresponding angles are congruent.
The navigator's line of sight to the star and the star's zenith line are parallel and intersected by the navigator's zenith line at the Earth's center and the navigator's GP.
The angle between the navigator's zenith and the star and the angle between the star's GP and the navigator's GP are corresponding angles and therefore congruent.
By determining the navigator's zenith/star angle, the angle value between the star's GP and the navigator's GP is transferred one to one and multiplied by 60 NM to calculate the radius of the Circle of Equal Altitude.
@@jimsmith7212 If you are trying to figure the azimuth and altitude of a star, knowing your assumed point latitude and longitude, I assure you those formulas are sperical trigonometry. Great circle distances, which that calculation really is, is trigonometric.
@@paulcrumley9756
Circles of Equal Altitude are not great circles and do not use trigonometry.
It doesn’t seem like it was that long ago that Nathan was screaming about refraction and apparent horizons and therefore flat earth.
What happened? Now he’s whining saying refraction is fake?
Exactly. I think it was because he was called out to define ‘refraction’.
So, according to Slappy... The horizon is on springs making it bounce up and down?
how is the life cycle of a flerf similar to the life cycle of the squirt?

True story~ back in the mid nineties I was working on a Prince gig at Earls Court. This gorgeous young lady walked passed with the tightest pair of leather trousers on and the zip went all the way around to the back of them! She stayed in my line of sight for as long as it took her to cross the back stage area heading off in the direction of the dressing rooms. Careful of those tubs of lard (especially if they have Paul Merton with them).
Refraction index is a thing. Light, RF and "sound" has different "delay index' in different media. Water, air, (atmosphere) or vacuum has different refraction index delay. Perhaps their brains are a vacuum cranium?
Everything you explain about line of sight and refraction is described and illustrated in detail in Ibn al-Haytham's seminal 7-volume work Kitab al-Manazir ("Book of Optics") written between .. umm ... 1011 and 1021, mostly in volume 3. Nearly all of it still stands as sound science. His work was translated into Latin and became so well known in Europe that even the arch-cynic, Geoffrey Chaucer, gives him a favourable mention in 'Canterbury Tales' and, six centuries after his lifetime, Johannes Kepler wrote effusively in his praise and was a sort of al-Haytham fan club.
So, an answer to Mike Jones' "draw a diagram" dribble could have been simply that Ibn al-Haytham already did, over 1,000 years ago.
Sod anything al-Khalifa, however. Bad choice there, Mr S. Al-Haythem had lots of problems with the Khalif (the Fatimid one, of Cairo) and he wrote Kitab al-Manzir in secret whilst under house arrest, having had all his possessions confiscated. It was only after the Khalifal despot (Abu Ali Mansur) died in 1021 that he was released, Kitab al-Manazir could be circulated in codex form and he was given his stuff back.
