    Many people are looking to learn on how to work on these late models...including me. Great content! I have and LR4 that needs chains, and an LR3 with a bad engine . No worries, we will stick with your content for many years. Time is valuable, but many will spend that time to watch your vids, over and over againg.

      What happened to the LR3 engine? Those are usually pretty stout.

      @LostCauseRanch I don't know, I only bought it because I wanted a brush guard, tail light covers, and a roof rack from it. The engine oil looks like chocolate milk, so the head gasket may be. It's an LR3 HSE with new tires and new front airbags.

    I’m loving the progress! I would def wholesale/retail vs donating it, like you pointed out in a previous video, it’s a high maintenance gas guzzler that a non profit might not have the funds to operate vs a CR-V or equivalent. I imagine this will bring a lot of joy to the right new owner who knows what to expect.

    • @LostCauseRanch

  • @nihallee

    Just a thought... You could retail Merlin but as a fully kitted and ready to go overlanding vehicle. Overland Expedition classifieds or sites like this are a good platform and from what I can see people are ready to pay a lot more to avoid spending the time/effort to do a build. Plus with your visibility to the overlanding + LR community, I'm sure it would sell fast. So that way, it provides a lot of cool content for your channel. After the budget overlanding, the greatest overlanding sounds cool ;o) The challenge is to find a way to install a rear diff but again : content Cheers!

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 11 měsíci +1

      That would be a fun way to go about it as well. I mean it is way more fun modifying stuff than just fixing haha. That would probably be the best way to make retailing it make sense.

  • @derelict_wanderer
    @derelict_wanderer Před 11 měsíci +1

    Hmm, agree with the other commenter on time being valuable. If the value is higher for 4x4s at the time you would have the short list finished, then it's a no brainer, IMO. Dunno if retail would provide the extra bang for the buck. You would be able to hop back to your Defender quickly. I also like the idea of both organizations benefiting from the sale. Another idea is a local food pantry.

    Well, Merlin sure is looking spiffy! 😍 I bet most viewers would like to see a complete refresh on the rig, especially if you go over costs. However, I understand the time vs return conundrum you are facing. In the end, I think the decision is going to depend on what you have envisioned for your other projects and videos for them.

      @LostCauseRanch  Před 11 měsíci

      That $2900 might realistically eat up all the difference between the two. There isn’t as much mark up in used vehicles as some people think. So add time and whatever else may pop up it could be backwards to retail it.

  • @robpeabo509
    @robpeabo509 Před 11 měsíci +1

    I do not know the American automotive market at all, so I do not know if the $2900 investment to do the extras will bring you more than $2900 back. What I do know is you said you acquired it cheaply, and while your time is valuable, you are doing the work yourself at essentially cost price, unlike a business. Sooooo all things considering, I say do the chains and the extras and retail it. As far as who to donate to, I am all for a dog rescue organisation, my daughter has two rescue dogs. It saddens me to see dogs get put down.

    • @LostCauseRanch
      @LostCauseRanch  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Realistically in the current market the $2900 would probably eat up the majority of the difference in wholesale vs retail. So that is where the dilemma comes for me as well. I would much rather see it go to someone that would love it. But it doesn’t necessarily pencil out well in that direction. So I just need to decide if it is worth losing out on time and possibly a little money taking it all the way.
      I’m a bleeding heart when it comes to rescue dogs as well. Sucks to see so many sitting in shelters and worse getting out down. So I agree with you there.
