You are most definitely the coolest guy on CZcams with a Gelli plate. So refreshing to see your super talented techniques and ideas. Also thanks for introducing me to snapseed. I’ve been looking for an app which could simplify my photos for printmaking… 👍🏻
Cheers! Lovely comment, only just scratching the surface with the Gelli, have a lot of ideas... Snapseed is really useful, the only downside it you can't save working documents in it. Thanks for the support : )
I agree with you completely. Best artist tutorials available. Always so inspiring.
Who knew to use my gelli plate in such a manner? Great way to develop interesting backgrounds without always using torn paper. Thank you for so generously sharing your mix media talents. I'm inspired. Thank you again.
Using a gelli plate for art, not craft…you’re my hero!
Dang, dude, you are an amazing fountain of information and inspiration!! Heartfelt thanks.
you're most welcome Alice - thanks for thanks!!!
I watched this before getting a gel plate and downloading Snapseed. Now that I have both, I re-watched this video. So much learning. The quality of the video is fantastic, so much work went into producing this. Can't thank you enough for your generosity. Can't wait to try your grid method.
Everything you do is Magic. Can't wait to try this! 💙 Thank You
I loved making this video - loads of scope for experimenting with layers and the control you get in separating colours / tones on Snapseed is great
Very impressive and soothing experience to watch, thank you for sharing such an inspiring video ♥️
Yes, let's see the stencil tutorial! This one was great!
OK, I'll add it to the list Kim!!! Don't need an excuse to stencil with spray paints!!!
All of your tutorials are exceptional-yes, I’d love to take a gander at anything you have to offer!
I’ll get round to it in the summer when it’s nice outside for spraying.
I, too, am going back through your tutotials since they are so packed with tips and ideas. Think I'll have a go at this style and technique today. Your brush strokes truly look like spray paint. Again, thank you for your generous videos.
A pleasure Susan, thanks for encouraging comments : )
Yes to the tutorial! Thank you!
I'll wait for some sunshine and get on it!
Great tips and techniques. I’m your new fan from Mexico.
Bienvenidos! Estuve en Mexico hace muchos anos. Es un pais muy divertido

@@yeatesmakes 😆
I love all your videos! You are a definite master at mixed media and your demonstrations are the best! Thank you for sharing this with us!
Great video! So many ideas!
This was one of my favourites to make - loads of steps and layers are loads of fun! Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome
Thanks avenger!
Love this. Thanks so much!
So generous of you to share your amazing techniques, thank you.
No worries Lesley, a pleasure : )
Seeing you use the grid method took me back to being a teen and painting a mural on my bedroom wall this way! It also made me think of Chuck Close's art - have you seen any of his stuff? Amazing guy, did large scale hyperrealism portraits using grids as he had face blindness. He became paralysed in his 40's but adapted his style to continue painting in a pixelated form.
I must confess to wanting to have a rifle through your vinyl... After looking up Augustus Pablo recently I'm dying to know what other gems are in your collection! :D
Hi Rozelle, I know Chuck Close's art well. I particularly like the work he did after he became paralysed, how he painted the tiny squares on line at a time with the canvas on a roll. Amazing that he never saw the whole painting until the end when he unrolled it! There's all sorts in the vinyl, latest additions that have been played a lot are Cat Power's Covers album and the Smile LP : ) On my headphones has been BCNR Ants from up there and the new JID album, all very eclectic!
Enjoyed this vid. So much. You are an inspiration to watch. Maybe a Warhol Marilyn (but not necessarily her) type stencil meets pop art piece.🆒
Sun is shining in UK so stencilling weather soon!!!
This is such a cool piece love the colors and the addition of the scissors was very cool ❤
This is only my second video I’ve watched from you. I’m completely addicted! I’ll have to look up Snap Seed. I’ve been using the Picsart app, and a lot of the cool features are not free :( You have totally changed my view of mixed media!
snapseed is cool - the only drawback is that you can't have a store of working edits / documents stored inside it. if you have an iPad, I would definitley invest on Procreate : )
You are my guru and my teacher! I've learned so much from you and I am applying so many of your techniques
to my art work. I love your work and am awed by your talent!
So glad vids are useful to you Kelsey : )
…how I wish I had found this one video tutorial 3 months ago, when you first published it! But never mind: it is never too late… Thank Y❤️U so much once more, Mark!
I loved doing this one! Thanks for appreciating Karin and i hope you can take something useful from it : )
Yes… want to see more work with the stencils
OK, it's on the list. Been very distracted by the gel plate lately!
It's an interesting process and the result is wonderful. I would be happy to see further motifs. I am so glad to have discovered your channel and thank you for the joy it brings and the inspiration it gives me. Christmas greetings from Germany.⭐️
Cheers Karin : ) Merry Christmas
Wow!
: ) Cheers solovjud
I would love to see your stencil work!
gonna get to that video - gel plate has me VERY distracted at present!
Working my way through all your videos. The joy keeps coming! Are you going to do some in person sessions?
Hi Bev - when you say 'in person' do you mean live events on CZcams?
@@yeatesmakes no, I meant in person live workshops. Thought I'd ask. Think you would be great.
Loved this and may I ask is your posca pen a 3mm or 5 ..Thankyou 😊 I'm catching up with all your vids and find them so inspiring !
Thanks so much Cally, I really enjoyed making this one! The double exposure tool on Snapseed is great if you think about it from slightly different angles from what it was designed for! I have another video nearly ready which based on Hattie Stewart's / Alex Bot's style of photography. I'll get it uploaded soon! The white Posca I used was thin, a 2mm I think, definitely not a 5.
I used to use this technique on MDF board and then place them out on the street for people to take
lucky folks on your street !!
Thanks for the tip about cutting tissue paper! The other tissue paper nightmare is laying it on top of a paint-loaded plate without turning the tissue into a mass of wrinkles. Any ideas? Also, thanks for reminding us about Letraset. Haven’t thought about that since we had to do analog layout for the college newspaper back when dinosaurs roamed the planet.
Hi Lynn, are you asking about a print plate / gel print plate with tissue paper or a surface with a lot of texture or dry impasto paint? Your comment about letraset made me chuckle. I have it because my dad did some typesetting work back in the day, before digital. I've kept it, and his lovely scalpels and pens all these years. He has long passed but I love using it all as it reminds me of him : ))
Yeates Makes Sounds like your dad and I might have been contemporaries! Tissue question is gel plate related. I love translucent layers for collages but after I brayer on the paint and apply a stencil or stamp then laying down tissue is nerve wracking since 7 times out of 10 it wrinkles. I’ve tried to love the wrinkles without success.
Hi Lynn, I've done a bit of research and it seems those having success are using a decent quality art tissue paper - fade resistant and slightly heavier GSM than the everyday stuff. What type are you using? I'm going to order some and then will do a video, probably of me fighting the wrinkles too!!
Yeates Makes I use art tissue from a US art supply store. So, as much as I would love to blame the paper ... I have asked before but didn’t get much of an answer. Looking forward to your wrestling match!
wahouh
: )
Would this work by transferring an image, let’s say from a magazine, via a gel plate straight onto canvas after doing some mixed media on it? May seem like a silly question, but I’m very new to this. Thank you in advance
It would, but you'd have to consider howtextured the surface was you are transferring on - the more rough the harder to get a clean transfer. Also, consider drying times. Transfer onto paper is relatively quick as it is so absorbent. Transfer onto a primed surface would require a bit of pressure and a lot longer drying time
@@yeatesmakes great and thank you so much for the information
Every time I try to add an image for the double exposure, snapseed won't do it and says, "couldn't load image". Any ideas?
Go to your privacy settings and allow Snapseed access to your camera roll :)
Thank you Mark. Are you still posting? Hope all is well.
Hello there, yes, still posting. Sadly#, I can only fit making and filming and editing etc around work and life. Been really busy lately but will be on it again soon.
@@yeatesmakes That's brilliant news. I recently retired. I have done no art work in about 40 yrs! Getting my kit together! Hopefully my gel plate will arrive tomorrow. Surrounded by paint & stencils etc at the moment! Your work and teaching style is so infectious and you have definitely found your calling. Thank you Mark for making my retirement exciting.
