- I love experimenting with new techniques and I really wanted to try magazine transfers on a gel plate. I had never seen anyone use acrylic markers on a gel plate so I thought I'd try and I was so surprised by the result.

"It's those failures that are so critical to our growth as artists as they are the stepping stones of our creative journey." Kudos.
💜💙💚💛
Great video, using many layers.
Usually I see gel plate transfer tutorials saying we should paint front to back so I was surprised how good the cowgirl one came,w out

thank you so much!!
Wow, wow, and WOW! I am blown away by this project! Absolutely inspiringly cool, and awesome SUPER COOL! I gotta try this!!! Thanks for sharing your mojo and talent!
thank you so much I'm really appreciative!! so glad you liked it!
Keren, I was so happy to see you going through this process. If a pro like you run into snags w/gel, I shouldn’t be discouraged. I thought I was lousy at it and was going to give up Gel. Thank you.
Mary thanks so much. Yes it took a little playing around. The magazine transfer is dependant on so many variables like the magazine type, or the amount of paint but if you have a laser printer then you can do it with a printed image. That one was perfect on the first try. I took someone's advice and printed it twice through the printer and the ink was darker. I've done the gel transfer before but this is way easier in comparison. Please share your makes and experiments in my facebook group!! I can't wait to see.
Beautiful magazine pulls! Wow! Just gorgeous!
Thanks so much Georgann!
Thank you so much Karen, I really really enjoyed watching you experiment with your Gelli plate. The result’s are absolutely stunning and awesome too. I really really love ❤️ both those print’s. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
thank you so much! its one of my favorite techniques! so glad you liked it!

It really is! thanks so much Gail!

Wonderful techniques, they turned out magnificently!🦋🌷❤️👍👍
Glad I saw this on YT, I didn't see it in my long list of notifications waiting to be seen.
Thanks so much 😊 yes there's so much on youtube nowadays to watch. If you go to your subscription tab on youtube you will at least see the latest posts as you scroll down. I'm appreciative that you click the bell to be notified!
You do not want a technique that will literally blow your mind🙈
no, lol good thing its just a figure of speech!
It was this transfer technique that drew me into gel printing, but it took me all of a month and a half to be successful! Like you, I persisted and I finally got it. Although I'm still a novice, I BELIEVE the secret is too use as little paint as possible for the initial step. Thanks for this.
Your gel plate prints are amazing. Makes we want to start printing. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thanks so much 😊I'm so glad to hear that, gel printing is so much fun!! I truly love it
What an absolutely phenomenal technique!! So perfect for your daughter 💕I loved your conversation on expecting fails to be a part of experimenting with new techniques. So true and worth it.

Loved the bird print ... stunning! I have never been able to get a good result with magazine transfers. Will have to keep trying after watching your video.
I know certain magazines are not as good so you need to experiment with different ones. but the laser print should work every time. It was so easy and I encourage you to try it. please post your makes in my facebook group so I can see them.
Genius!

I encourage you to watch the last video I posted with my glue gun on a gel plate, it will surprise you and then at the end of that one there's another video that you will love as you can make your own stencils and stamps. I hope you feel better soon!!
Absolutely wonderful Keren! Loved how your transfers came out, they're both amazing. Those markers seem really nice.

Very impressive! Awesome work Keren...I love it! Thanks for sharing this technique!!😁
Thanks so much 😊I'm so happy to hear Terrie!!
This is sooooo anazing ! Thanx 4 sharing. I have a mixed media plate, but nothing works with me, but I'm not giving up, as you make such amazing stuff, so... ordered an ordinary gell plate, perhaps it works better and,... not giving up ;-) Thanx aspecially 4 your inspiring words: not to give up, mistakes make you learn ! THX !!
if the plate is hard plastic then I find it harder to use. not sure what a mixed media plate is but the gel plate prints like butter. thank you so so much!
Fantastic
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you for sharing the results were amazing, better because of what you did with the acrylic paint pens. You know just what a picture needs. I am picking up tips from you 💖👍💐
You are so welcome! so glad to hear! thanks!
This is so cool :) I have a gel plate that is currently sitting in a drawer. I have a few projects ahead of this idea, but definitely worth a try, and like you said those 'failures' help us to grow as artists. Thank you for that encouragement :) new subbie
Kerry thank you so much, its true I fail all the time at many of my experiments but when it works, it is something I cherish and I'm so grateful. I can't wait for you to try it. Feel free to post it in my facebook group or tag me on IG so I can see it. and Welcome to my channel!!
Oh how I WISH I had seen all these techniques when I did this in my art classes years ago!! My students loved doing gel plates with their own cutout designs but we never used or even heard of these ideas!! Making our own gel plates was actually the most fun for me and when they tore, I just cleaned them off, reheated them in the microwave, poured them back out into the cake pans and they were good as new, but these ideas takes this art form to a whole new level!! Thanks!!!
wow I've never made a gel plate from scratch that's so cool... I didn't even know you can melt it and re-melt it. TFS!
I will see if I can find the recipe again. It was rubbing alcohol, unflavored gelatin, and glycerin, but I don’t remember the amounts. I just scraped off the paints from the day of student use and tore it up into small pieces, microwaved, repoured into the cake pans, and covered to sit overnight. The cake pans I found had plastic lids that kept them dust-free as well as kept them from drying out. (I never did find a pan that didn’t have its company imprint in the bottom of the pan but I used both sides through the day anyway!) These gelli plates lasted me for the full week of abuse-I-mean-use by the kiddos and I had alot of students come through daily-6 classes with 18 to 25 per class! Those were the days!!
I’m going to try your technique, loving this, Karen, thx!
That’s awesome. I’d love to see how it turns out. Please tag me or share in my Facebook group.
I love these experiments. I will defiantly be trying these out!
that's awesome Marina! glad you liked them!
The best gelli plate printing video I’ve ever seen. I love the techniques you’ve used here and can’t wait to try them. You are an excellent teacher.
Thank you so much! it means a lot to me!
Brilliant
thank you so much Lisa!
LOVE this - I had no idea about acrylic markers. Love your prints chickie!!! 😍😘🎨
Thanks so much dear Ingrid!! yes I've used them in the past in my journals and canvases to color in or outline things but this technique I never did.
Lovely
thank you!
Thanks for sharing! What great experiments and lovely results too!
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you so much!
Totally amazing. Thank you so much.
thank you Angela, so glad to hear!
I love the way those turned out❤️
thank you so so much!
Mindblowing, why haven't I thought about this before. Thank you.
Oh you're so cute!! I felt the same way when I thought of it LOL. but so often I say the same thing. Why didn't I think of this.
So beautiful love both prints😊
Thanks so much 😊
Wow! You are so brave to cover those up, but it worked so well!!! 😍
Susan that's part of the technique once the paint is dry you add a fresh coat of paint to cover the whole plate and lay the paper on top to dry. The paint sticks to the background and pulls it all.
WOW these came out amazingly awesome, thank you for sharing
Thanks so much 😊so glad you liked them Tora!!
Keren I almost had a heart attack by seeing you covering the first image with white!!!!!🤣😅😂Amazing results!!! 😱I will try them in the future.. 👍
Maria you're so cute, that's part of the technique as its the layer closest to the paper and its what sticks to the whole image to pull it off the gel plate. If you don't have a gel plate you can use the back of a plastic stamp.
Super.😊
Wow Keren.... This is amazing!!! I'm learning so much from you
Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome! so glad to hear! thank you so much Paulien!!
Thank you so much for this inspiration.
You are so welcome! thanks for watching!
So beautiful 😍 I'm in love
thank you so much!
I was so happy to find you Keren. I'm still at the learning stage. I have been trying to find the best way to transfer images of sketches from some of my old sketch books So far I found charcoal on trading paper and charcoal ..... You can transfer directly onto the Gelli plate. also found Conte chalk works well and is less messy. Then I thought acrylic markers but couldn't find any advice out there. I was thrilled to find your instructions so beautifully and kindly shared. Thank you so much
You are so welcome! and so glad you found other ways to transfer images. That is so cool that you're using your own sketches!
Great video, never tried using magazine prints on my gel plate before!
oh yes it's so much fun!! a game changer for me for sure!!
Artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire demoed this 7 months ago with Posca paint pens. It just shows me that great, creative minds, think alike!
oh nice!! I guess just goes to show that I don't watch enough youtube lol funny because we both have our product designs with Joggles but we don't watch each other's channels LOL
