Steve's Small Engine Saloon
You’re the greatest Steve thank you, and I bought you a beer the other day👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Done sub..👍👍👍
Thank's so much...i have that problem with my blower 25litre
Steve's Small Engine Saloon subbed ... California now I don’t have use for a saw anymore but I do like knowledge. Steve you should do frosty mugs. Bud ! I love beer too.
@@michaelperry6888 and
My wife and I thank you for helping figure out how to tighten up my limp rope. Worked like a charm and didn't even need a blue pill.
What kind of torque wrench did she use?
I don't understand why someone would give this a thumbs down. Steve, you did a great job explaining this and I will definitely will remember this for the future. As of matter of fact, I've found all your videos helpful and informative. 👍
I appreciate that!
Must be because Steve charges so much for this advice.
To be honest Tim, I can't understand CZcams actually having a Thumbs Down icon at all. If someone dosen't like a video they should go and find a video they DO like instead of spreading their negativity. Thanks Steve for your time and knowlege your giving us for free. Billy. UK
Steve has taught me a good bit on these small engines. Thank you for your help and time to make these videos to help us
It's just people with dyslexia failing at voting thumbs up.
Thanks for helping simple folk like me that didn’t have a dad that could explain this kinda stuff at the ready. Appreciate all your help and videos… every homeowner needs this kind of info in their life!
Glad to help
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloonwhat if it doesn't have tension?
Steve, your explanation, especially the last bit about how to check if the spring is too tight, is superior to several other videos on this subject. I totally enjoyed your teaching and I gave you a thumb's up.
Kudos!
Thank You...
Hey Steve just wanna say a massive thank you I spent two hours disassembling and reassembling my pullstart trying to fix this problem and In 7 minutes you’ve helped me sort it, again huge thank you
You're Welcome...
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Same. Thanks man. Pulling my freaking hair out.
If only Steve's Small Engine Saloon was in HD. Every time I watch his videos I learn something that I feel is super significant. Some channels never get to the point, but his are always on point.
Thank You...and I am saving up for a new camera...
Brilliant, thank you, I've taken the buggers apart in the past to reset the cord, my Honda 4kva generator which is beat up and 20 plus years old starts 2 pulls whatever the weather the cord start is the only part I've had to replace (excluding filter plug etc).
You learn something new everyday! thanks for the video and great explanation.
Sometimes when I don't feel like taking off the pull starter ( I hate when the gas tank is attached), I'll pull the cord out slightly and pour a little lube through the hole where the string comes out. Give it a couple light pulls to spread the lube. Works great if the spring does not need to be adjusted.
Thank you. Basic, simple, and exactly what I was looking for. Every other instruction I have seen want me to tension without rope, then add rope under tension. My rope was .... very difficult to get through the hole, so I did not want to have to do that again. This method is so simple - I love it. Thank you again.
You're Welcome...
Thank you sir. Great explanations, demos and camera angles. Very well done, and enjoy your beer.
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
I haven't seen Lucky Lager beer since my beer can collecting days when I was in junior high school 1970-73!
Love it. Had that problem many times, and didn’t know how to fix it.
You've helped me out once again! I watched this, then went out out and did it on my log splitter. Exactly as described. Took less time than watching the video. Thanks again Steve!
Glad it helped!
Dude thank you so much!!! My pocket bike pull start had like a foot of rope hanging out. I put 2 turns of tension on it. Saved me money. Your the man!!!
You're Welcome...
It worked! I live off grid and winters can be sketchy w solar.... my cord was hanging half way out.... I did what u said and IT WORKED! ty ty ty ♡
You're Welcome...You're Welcome...You're Welcome... Good luck out there, I know it cant be easy. Stay safe.....
Thanks Steve; you are a champion for producing this video. I've had a slack rope on my saw for many years but my son took it to a saw shop yesterday after breaking the rope and it was replaced. I wish I'd seen this video about ten years ago!
Right on Al!
Thanks Steve I've fixed those maybe 5 times by taking it apart. You just saved me an extra 30 min. or more many more times. I will pass this along. Mike
Right on Mikey...
Thanks again Steve. I’ve been working on mowers for many years and you just solved a big mystery for me. Your info is worth it’s weight in gold, thanks again, wow I’m a big fan of yours.
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Agree with the sentiment, but information is like a man on the moon -- weightless.
Another problem I've had in the past, and two days of being subscribed, two problems fixed. Thanks again Steve. One more, and dammed if I not gonna buy a T-shirt!
You're Welcome...and Thank You...
Perfect, after watching this video I also solved the same problem. It was not the same kick starter but had similar configuration and problem. The whole coil was out. I watched another video to fix that as well.
Thank you Steve.👌👍
I thought the recoil spring on the tiller I was using was bad. I'm glad I watched this before going any further. It was a 5 minute fix once I saw this video. I had literally looked at that little notch and wondered what it was for. Thank you for your service to humanity, or at least that part of it that uses small engines.
You're welcome!
Best thing ever Went straight out and fixed the pull start on my log splitter Been annoying me for months and saw your other video and went straight out and turned the pull start on my generator to where it needed to be That ones been annoying me for years Thanks so much Your a legend Thanks.........Damon from Australia
Right on Mate...
Love watching your videos
Hah, this one came in handy. Just watched it yesterday and today I cleaned up the carb on a Little Wonder Pro edger that has a Honda GX-120 on it. As soon as I put gas in the tank and pulled the starter rope the first time, it was left dangling on the floor. Was so glad I watched this. Just took it off, sprayed it with some silicone, pulled it a few times to loosen up the spring and it was fixed. So, I donated a little something for your trouble. Enjoy whatever few beers it will get ya.
I got it George! Thank you very much....
Just think if EVERYBODY that tried this sent him a buck or two, hect he saved folks WAY more than that, and the hassle of taking your whole mower or recoil in
I will be trying this tomorrow on my pressure washer, which took a dive into the deep end of my pool. Your carb replacement lesson on my Stihl trimmer worked perfectly!! Thanks Steve, and will keep you posted on this fix.
Good luck!
I’m going through that problem right now! Great tut! Thanks Steve.
You're Welcome...
Thanks for the good info.. I never knew you can take up the slack without disassembly.
You're Welcome...
The issue I'm having right NOW. I was just getting ready to pull the trigger on a new one and I thought, "Lemme check Steve's vids first"....BOOYAH!! FIXED!!
....best small engine channel on CZcams...
Thanks buddy and I just got your email too. Right on...
Steve you've done it again! You saved me a repair bill with a simple solution for a limp starter rope. You have saved me more $ than any other channel that I subscribe to. Thanks.
You're Welcome...
I have had that happen to me in the past. I always felt it was fairly simple to fix but didn't know how to. .I watch all your instructional videos. I love it. You are so clever. You explain things so well.I actually play the video when I'm fixing my moer now. I'm so glad I ran into your videos. Thanks Steve.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Never thought to do it that way! That's a lot easier than the way I use to do it! Thanks for the tip!
No problem!
Your telling me, I feel stupid
Well we are both a little smarter today. My Grandfarther told me " do not go one day with out learning something new ". I think Steve did the same thing. 🤗
This video is, without doubt, THE most informative, if not THE most important video on CZcams. Thanks Steve.
WOW, thank you Kenny....
Great info..👍
Had to replace the pull string in my Stihl weedeater, had a lot of slack! You're loop pull around tip fixed it up! Thank you and subbed!
Glad it helped!
I have a leaf blower / vacuum with this problem - Troy Bilt. I will give it a try. In your own way, you're making all of us small engine users a little better. Thank you!
Good luck!
just what i needed. my rope broke on my snow blower 15 yrs.ago. i just used the ele. start. last year i decided to try to fix the rope puller. i was able to put the handle back on, the break was next the handle. (still had the handle, as my wife says , i never throw anything out) any way it works great except the rope doesn't go all the way back in. Now , i know how to fix it. thanks for the info. Love your channel, have you tried "keystone light beer" , that's my go to.
You saved me. I had dismantled the genny, had the pull cord in my hand and still couldn't get my head around how to get rid of the excess. Such a simple solution, but I would have spent hours or days figuring it out on my own. Really appreciate you uploading this video
Glad I could help
Thank Steve I was able to fix my generator pull rope with this video.
I live in the mountains and my genny is my only source electric power.
So thanks for this video.
You're Welcome...
I subscribed to your channel a couple of months ago and the best move I ever made. I had my chainsaw pull cord fixed in 10 minutes thanks to this video. Works perfectly! Thank you!
That is awesome!
Thank you Steve! Perfect tutorial that I needed on tension, alignment and maintenance of the starter rope and spring coil. "Lucky" I came across your video, cheers!
Glad it helped!
Magical indeed , thank you my friend.
You're Welcome...
This guy is a genius. I figured out how to rewind my spring, put the retainer clip on, and fix my slack in the rope. Thumbs up bud
Thank You...
Thankee for showing clearly how to do this. Mine has been dangling a while. Good to go now.
Glad it helped
wow! Thanks! I did it the hard way in the past and pulled that whole thing apart. mind blown
Fantastic!
I watched and recorded your video before but wanted to watch it again. Lots of good information. Thanks!
You're Welcome...
Thanks Steve. It's a cold, rainy day here in MD so fixing my tamper is on my To Do List. Thanks again for demystifying small engine repair.
You're Welcome...
Steve, I was about to break my overtightened spring. You saved the day again for me with this trick. Thanks a bunch...really !
Great to hear!
i had slack in my line earlier today so instead of taking it apart i just tied another shorter knot...now i know the right way to do it cheers. New sub here
That's great!
That was awesome! You saved me so much time and a possible spring escape! Mine didn't have a notch, but I put one in with a drill and it worked perfectly! I will never forget this!
I want to add that I had just replaced the cord the day before because the cord was too short because of previous breakage. It just didn't have enough length to give a good pull. Now with a longer cord, it didn't go all the way in. Now I have a good pull!
Fantastic!
I watched this a year ago, then found I needed it today for my snowblower. Worked like a charm!!! Thank you so very much!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the help Steve. Used this today on a pressure washer cord.
Excellent!
Damn, you saved the day with that force the rope around one more time trick. Thanks a million!
You're Welcome...
yeah! I used to disassemble the whole thing. Now I know how to do it. Thanks Steve!
I did it and mine didnt even have that notch. Just used a butter knife to push it around.
Saved the day over here on a goped pull start
No joke! This just saved me a bunch of time and energy. I replaced my starter rope last season and it was always kind of tight but not completely right. Sometimes the handle would not go back in all the way and would hang there. Did this trick and it’s perfect now. Thanks Steve! You rock! Oh, it was super easy too and now I have a huge feeling of satisfaction knowing I fixed that by myself.
Right on Buddy...
Love it, about to try it on my Stihl fs55r
Just fixed the spring on my pull chord. It had unraveled from the outside stopper and was just spinning inside the casing. Your video led me to it, saved me hours of headache. Cheers
Right on
Great topic and video. Thanks. It's also peeved me for a long time. Going to fix right now... High Five!
Thank You...
Dude. Much thanks. I was overcomplicating it.
You're Welcome...
2 awesome tips in 1 quick video. i have always completely removed the rope, put more tension on the spring and then go through the bother of threading the rope back through. you the man !
Thank You...
Superb explanation, thanks Steve. I had to fix a broken pull chord on a new brush cutter and when I took it apart to get the chord back in the spring went wild like a slinky on spring break. Once it was back together the starter was suffering from a case of limp rope! 3 attempts to put it back together and I couldnt get it to go back in. One watch of the video and the magic happened! All sorted, and a spring in tthe step 👍
Right on
Super sir ,
I too
followed and succeed .
Thank you very much.
You're Welcome...
Great video. I have been having problems with the pull start on my paramotor engine. I’ve broken a couple of springs. I think I must have had too much tension on the spring as you described. Thanks
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Great info…was about to take apart the pulley to tension the spring…saved me a ton of trouble… thanks!!
Glad it helped
Spot-on!
Thank you for this video it help my father an myself an saved our snowblower
You're Welcome...
Man, I would never have figured this out,, thank you!
Glad to help
Thanks, I just did it as you showed and it worked out perfectly.
Nice work!
Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to fix mine for about 3hrs now but, when I came across your video I got it done in less than 3mins. Thank u so much 😇
Fantastic!
I hope your videos make it into the Smithsonian. The information you present should be saved for future generations. I've had many of these problems long before you tube came along and usually botched the repair work. I'm better prepared now thanks to you.
What an awesome comment! Thanks for the compliment my friend....
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon like you made the top 10 worst comments you should make a top 10 best comments video....just give me a shootout for the video idea haha
Definitely, unfortunately they're also gonna need to save some testosterone for this next generation too.
I vote for that !!!
Straight to the point good teacher......
Nice video and great straight forward explanation. Thanks Steve!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I am currently watching ALL of your videos. You are a well of knowledge. I have learned more about chainsaw/lawnmower maintenance in 10 hours than in the last 10 years.
Thank you for all of this.
Right on George! You're Welcome...
Thanks!
You're Welcome...
Yep. I'm a new subscriber based on this video only! Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos. Great job. Simple, short, in plain English with good overhead camera views to go with it!!
Right on Jeff...
This was a GREAT video! so easy to follow and see..... new sub! And thanks again.... 😊
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
Steve's Small Engine Saloon has smiled at all all these yup
Been working on everything and anything for 10-15 years. You just blew my mind. Thank you Steve, get some banquet beer.
Right on Buddy...
Most detailed video on this that I found so far. Thanks for the clear explanation. Now tomorrow I will tackle this and see if it actually works on the Honda mower. Best mower, just needs a little love.
Good luck!
After watching your videos, I feel like a full time small engine mechanic who loves the brewsky.
that whole recoil design is crap. Brigs& Stratton was the best.
I can't wrap my head around why this works, but it does. I tried endlessly with manual techniques to no avail. Put the rope in that slot and jackpot. Thx boss!
Glad it helped
Very helpful, fixed my old mercury outboard string tension!! Many thanks
You're welcome!
Repaired my Honda generator rope sticking problem by watching your video. Thank you Steve.
You're Welcome...
You,my friend... just earned a new subscriber... not only for the lesson, but I love the whole bar look🇺🇸🇺🇸🍻
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Steve. Another brilliant clip. I have to state though (and quite cheekily), that if everyone followed all your advice on maintenance, tuning etc., they would never need to pull the cord to its limit, before ignition!
Thanks mate.
LOL. Thanks Bob...
A little maintenance goes a LONG way!
Great job Steve, I'm a retired auto mechanic and I've been a maintenance guy most of my life. I've learned that maintenance is important to prevent problems in the future. Those that don't perform maintenance end up being Reactance people. Prepare for the problem with maintenance or React to the problem because you lacked maintenance. New Sub.
Thank You...
It’s the little things! Had the problem, bought a new reel when I didn’t havta. Knowledge is Power Brother. Thanks.
Glad to help
thanks steve , nice trick. always wondered how to fix that
You're Welcome...
For some reason it took me 10 times of watching this to understand how the rope wasn't just getting wrapped around the pulley. I understand it now and this is probably the best thing I've ever seen on CZcams but man, that confused my brain.
This will save me hours everyday doing lawnmowers! Even after 2 years of working on them everyday I always tell myself there is more to learn. This is a good example!
Right on Travis! Thank You...
Steve you saved the day for me on this one. I'm now able to put my new recoil spring in and wind up the slack in the rope without removing the rope handle. Wow thank you so much.
Glad to help
Wow what a great video I been so stumped on my atv pull start and this helped me tighten it and fix the problem bravo easy to understand and works
Right on
The minute you took a swig of your beer, i immediately said to myself “this guy is the real deal.” Cheers Brother! Continue to spread your knowledge. Guys like myself appreciate it.
Right on Brother...
Thanks for sharing this video with us.
You're Welcome...
Another awesome video. I have an 8hp tecumseh snowblower with this issue. Glad I do not have to take the spring out and rewind. I will fix this soon.
Glad it helped
I just coming back!!! I had to do the second tightening technique and DARN...it worked perfect. Thank again Steve for the videos!!!
Fantastic!
You are awesome!!! Just found your videos and I have watched several now. Keep up the great videos. Awesome. Thanks Steve
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I just tried it in my Toro snow blower and the WD40 worked great. Thanks...
Right on buddy...
Fixed my problem thanks dude for sharing your knowledge!
Glad to help
One of the BEST tips ever, Steve. Having watched countless numbers of your Chainsaw and other Small engine repair vids, I will say that you are one of the best presenters I have run across for this type of thing. My first instructional I ever watched was another fella on how to service a lawn mower carb, from there I've learned small engines, electronics and amp repairs, HVAC, automotive, and of course lawn and landscape equipment. Thank you for all your efforts.
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
@@StevesSmallEngineSaloon Hi again Steve. Thanks again for the reply. At 58 years old and only an occasional user of some of my tools like chainsaws, I had to learn the hard way on some things such as how to maintain, prevent damage such as the bad gas issue on carb and fuel parts, etc, but with age also came resources like this. Yes it has been invaluable learning how to diagnose and fix and to test many integral parts on saws, string trimmers etc. Good fuel, clean lines, filters and plugs, plus air tight seals are really the crux of a good running small engine. Thank again for all your tutorials. I could watch you and a few other folks and feel like no non running saw/weedwacker/mower, generator, tamper etc were beyond my ability to make new again.
Just fixed my non retracting rope on my Honda. Thanks Steve
Excellent!
Great video and thank you Sir!
Thank You...and You're Welcome...
I work on these all the time and didn't know that little notch was for the rope. Did not realize that the spring could be broken by having it out of adjustment. Great info...…..THANK YOU.
You're Welcome...
You clever get! Last time I tried adjusting the spring on my mower I went about it by unscrewing the assembly and SPROINGGG!!! I had coils of unwound spring pop out all around the edges! Thanks bud!👍👍👍👍
You're Welcome...
The simplest tricks are the most amazing, prechate this 1 👍
Right on Tex...
Great, now you are telling me I’ve been taking apart all the recoil starters for nothing. Thanks. :D
Thank you again Steve! This is at least the 3rd time I've watched this video to fix the pull start on my grandfather's 1977 rototiller.
You're Welcome...
