Cel animation is intriguing, similarly to digital animation, computer-generated imagery, and stop motion animation. That’s an impressive collection you have.
For the Flintstones cel, I'd suggest showing to some lost media folks. There's some smart folks in that community that can know something exists, without having it most of the time. And the penguin one, the watchtower database. They're the definitive group online for everything related to Batman TAS and other shows in that continuity. Dope collection btw!
The Flintstones one is from a fruity pebbles commercial, Barney is wearing purple for the introduction of the grape flavored pebbles most likely. The fruity pebbles box design seen on another similar cel was used from 85-87, but that auction didn't have any information on a specific year either (just said 70s-80s Flintstones).
really cool cels you got there i kinda wanted to start my own cel collection to have some animation art up on my wall, but i chose the worst possible time to do it, like how you described it, where everything's about nostalgia and internet culture the most i got was this flintstones lithograph of fred and pebbles that was on sale for $50-something, and a frame of scratch from AOSTH i got dirt cheap
@@harasen_haras5 yeah the real thing, is a time consuming, complicated, expensive, and often times messy when using inks and paint. That you can now do completely on a tablet. Still time consuming, but not nearly as long as it saves you about 150 steps. And you don't end up spending so much money on ink and paint, and celluloid, etc, painting 24 cels for 1 second. The funny thing is Tim Burton said he left traditional animation because of how long it took to make a single second of work. But then he went on to work in stop motion, which also requires you to move the figures 24 frames per second. I guess he was trying to make a point. But it was completely lost on me. He traded one long time consuming type of animation for another one that takes just as long to animate.
@@harasen_haras5 I may not be an animator yet, but, apparently, you could use something like a dry erase sheet and a marker to emulate the process of cel animation. Not saying that you should, but there is a possibility that it could work, but that's just my opinion.
Yes, nice collection of animation cels! 😀👍🏽 I've seen animation cels in person when I went to Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) back in 2020 and 2022. They had a booth with a lot of Warner Bros., Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Peanuts, and Star Trek: The Animated Series animation cels.
My grandfather is a huge cartoon fan and he bought 2 cels from the original Jungle Book movie from 1967 for a dollar at Disneyland during the movie’s release. They had a Walt Disney Authenticity Sticker on the back of the cels

Not the most beloved episdoe of the show, but hey, your grandpa probably didn't know and it's a great gift. I also think the Nautro cel might be something done for the cel market or something: to my knowledge, the entire anime was done digitally; was never on cels. Great stuff all around, keep it up! That Bugs Bunny cel is great!
You should really mat your cels. They're really vulnerable when you just put them in frames like that. If you truly love your collection please treat it with care, you have some great pieces!

I loved watching Rocko on Nicktoons Network when I was 8 or 9 for a lot of the same reasons. It was a bit earlier than my time but dang was it different from anything else I've seen from Nickelodeon.
I like the fact that you gave your channel a whole new makeover at the beginning of 2023 by making better, more stylized cover images for many of your older videos. How did you do it?
17:16 I started my cel collection and only focus on shows I watched as a kid or shows that I'm a big fan of. I've picked a lot more production drawings because.... I don't know! Some cels I won't ever get because they're priced for so much but the production drawings will probably be my only options or sometimes I just prefer the production drawings over cels (it's weird I know) but man, I get being priced out of hobbies lol

I have some animation cels already framed, but I want to know if there's a company I can send them into to have them properly framed. It's a cell of Spunky Rocko's dog. I also have an animation cel set from the Tezuka movie Jungle Emperor Leo and cel from Sailor Moon of Artemis the white cat. I would love to have them properly matted, and put in a frame with the glass that prevents sun damage and fading. The Jungle Emperor Leo cel set is made up of Leo and his two clubs on a copy of the original background and not the original.
Strange about the Naruto cel since correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't watched in years, wasn't he a major minion of Orochimaru as part of the final pre-Shippuden arc (not counting the like, 3-4 seasons of filler content)?
The reason why they abandoned this form of animation, which is very superior to what we have now is that people got lazy and don't want to spend the money to do it. It's pure nonsense. They could definitely do it if they wanted to and if they wanted to put that hard work into it.
Sometimes they are kept in storage units and people can inherit them that way if they buy the unit in an auction. Also staff members on productions were able to keep some animation cels for themselves. But you are right, unfortunately many got destroyed because they weren’t seen as pieces of art but rather a byproduct of the animation process.

As a young aspiring cartoonist who has almost only animated digitally, this sort of thing makes me wanna experiment with doing cel animation.
You're gonna have to become very rich first, because that is a lot more expensive. Hence why it looks so much better.

These are really cool! I don't own any cells but I have a Pepe Le Pew style guide and my house is wall-to-wall Pepe Le Pew art and memorabilia.
